Dusty shrugged, looking back towards Amber again. "Oh, you know," he said, raising his hands and shoulders in an exaggerated shrug, "fighting cultists, saving princesses, being cool. The usual stuff." He grinned at her like nothing was wrong, though his fingers were tapping along madly on his bracer's screen. His mind was formulating a plan at a mile a minute and his ideas were translating into the arrows in his quiver, filling many of them with the Dust he needed to actually fight against the hooded man.
"Thinking about that right now, your Highness," Dusty said, his mind still working out the details. He snapped Ardu and Leagtha back together in Daybreaker as he watched the hooded man do something with his orb. When what the something was was instantly kill the giant snake towering over him, the young man's jaw fell open in shock. While he was glad that it was dead, he was not so glad that the cultist had the power to just instantly kill a monster that big. "One thing I do know is that his use of 'It's time' is not the good kind of 'It's time.'"
Dusty tightened his grip on his bow, ready to enact his plan when he felt Amber's hand grip his own. He froze for a second and looked at her again in surprise before Chrohn snapped him back to the present situation. He shook his head and grinned at Amber confidently. He nodded before replying, "I'm always ready when I've got my friends by my side. Together, we are strong. Stronger than any threat that can try to take us down!" He pulled his hand away and used it to draw his first arrow, an Energy one, as he looked back at the hooded man.
"He's the weirdo who's going to learn to never mess with Dusty Ghrian!" Dusty shouted in response to Chrohn's question. Immediately after, his eyes flashed to black and four hands shot up out of the man's shadow, reaching to grab onto his arms and legs. Dusty went into action after that. He sprinted around the glass wall and fired three Energy arrows in a tight bundle in front of the hooded man. Next, he shot a Gravity arrow in the same pile, causing a somewhat powerful gravitational pull to occur. Next came two Fire arrows shot behind the man, but were quickly turned around by the gravitational pull and shooting towards the cultist's back. These were followed by an Earth arrow shot next to the man's heels, kicking up a small shelf of stone meant to knock the man off balance and towards the pile of Energy arrows on the ground, laying in wait for someone to shock. After every arrow was shot, Dusty's eyes shifted back to blue and the hands slipped back into the man's shadow, hopefully leaving him vulnerable to the elaborate attack the young archer had laid out.

Looking to the sky, Adam looked at the beast and was thinking of ways to kill the monster and how much fun it would be. Looking back to his bike he checked it for scratches or scuffs. After a quick inspection of his black and gum metal grey war machine he looked back to the group while sheathing his blade onto his back. He sized up all of them seeing what was in front of him, hearing various stories of these academy kids and their potential. An opportunity he wishes he or his brother had before becoming criminals. Although he thinks his brother would have an easier time since he was into all that reading and science stuff while he just stayed to fighting and smithing. Looking back up he thought to himself "Imagine the price on that thing's head...s?" he wondered if he would get paid by head or by kill.

It was time to get going. With a nod, Eve and Ferr ran in the direction the students had headed - and the massive Grimm loomed. Never in her life had she seen such a massive creature, leave for the day Vytal was attacked by one of the Wills a few months ago. With Skorpio in had, she prepared to defend herself while taking advantage of the protection granted by Ferr and his shield. Luckily, she wouldn’t need to use her weapon. She observed a wicked dark light bolted across the sky, striking the giant snake like lightning. The beast twisted, apparently in pain, before dropping in pain with a hiss. Where it went, she did not know, but she prayed the beast was dead."Do you know what is going on with that Elder Taijitu?” He inquired. Of course, not knowing the answer, she shrugged. “I’m not sure, but I hope it’s gone. I don't think we have enough manpower to deal with such a Grimm right now.”Eve then took the lead, guiding Ferr through the city before coming across the students - and the Princess - standing down against a man in a black robe. Eve regarded every little detail about the figure, despite not having clear view of his face given it being wrapped in red - potentially bloodied - bandages. The only thing revealing about the man were tattered words on the cloth hanging over his left shoulder - “Æ”. Eve’s expression twisted as she fought for something to say. Instead, her eyes stayed locked on the man, though her attention remained on her students. Deep beneath the surface, a gentle tremor began to stir, eventually growing in intensity.“That doesn’t feel good…” She said, glancing down at the sands below. “Everyone! Watch your step!” Deciphering whether or not Dusty was confident and/or arrogant was shaping up to be a difficult task. Regardless, now wasn’t the time for a friendly reunion. Though Amber had prepared herself to fight against the attacker, Dusty had his own agenda. She watched as the attacker’s shadow turned on him, manipulated by the power of Dusty’s Semblance. However, it appeared their enemy was no fool. Feeling his shadow’s grasp, a bright flash emanated from the man’s body. The shadows trying to hold him down were driven back to oblivion by the light, the flash so great that Amber had to divert her gaze. This tactic, however, was familiar - and seeing it caused her heart to drop. She wasn’t able to follow what happened next, but she knew Dusty had unleashed an attack of several arrows. By the sounds of things - particularly the explosions of the Dust arrows activating upon hitting a mark - it seemed like it had been successful. In all the chaos, dust and sand had been kicked up in the aftermath. Amber was finally able to look in the direction the hooded attacker stood, seeing him crossing his arms with an Aura barrier made manifest. That said, he robes were even more tattered, meaning Dusty’s attack was - despite lack of appearance in the man - successful. On his shoulder, Amber noticed the same ”Æ” that Eve had upon her arrival.Tears, unable to be held back, began streaming down her face. “Æthelwulf…” She said quietly, feeling an immense weight on her chest. “Why…? Why are you doing this?” The man seemed to respond to her utterance of the name, chuckling quietly under his breath. “That was a good strategy, kid.” He said, speaking directly to Dusty. “It’s a shame that you aren’t with us. A mind like that would be an invaluable asset.” His crude scythe-like weapon dissipated, and he pulled his hood back over his head with a twisted smile. “You all may be strong, but the weakness that plagues Remnant - possibly in yourselves - will be dealt with in time.” He continued, raising one hand towards the sky. “A new world is on the horizon, ladies and gentlemen. Whether or not you survive in that world will depend on the outcome of this test.”In a flash, he was gone. The subtle tremors became more and more intense, until everything became still. It was so quiet, so calm, that Amber could hear her heartbeat. Then, just when it felt like everyone could finally relax, something erupted from the earth. A snake - many times larger than the Elder Taijitu - with six heads. It’s armor was darker than normal Grimm, and instead of red accenting its bony surfaces, it was a glowing blue. Its tail, unlike the normal Elder Taijitu, was barbed with razor-sharp blades. This was a monster that Amber had only ever read stories about. This was what her storybooks called a Taijitu Nagara - the king of serpents. The beast, instead of focusing on the students, directed its attention towards the city and began wreaking havoc throughout. Buildings were leveled in its wake as its many heads struck down scores of civilians in a matter of a few seconds. Without thinking about the sudden revelation of her attacker, Amber transformed the Hound back to its sword form and ran towards the beast. “There’s no time to wait, guys!” She called out. “We have to kill this thing before it destroys the city!” The battle had only just begun. Lily watched as the gigantic snake began to rise from the sands beneath the city. She had been hopeful that this strange man had destroyed it. Instead, it was apparent that he'd empowered it. Shortly afterwards, he'd vanished from sight. She gritted her teeth scanning for his next point of attack, however none came. She'd heard his words, and realized that he was testing the people present. She continued to scan, her ears perking up as she tried to listen for anything strange, but the chaos caused by the massive snake monster made that completely impossible.
She heard the girl that she was intent on protecting shouting that this thing needed to be stopped. She couldn't help but agree, and if she were going to fight, then her purpose here was clear. She'd come to protect her, she'd come to save peoples lives. This was the only obvious route to take. She lept back from her crouched position on the roof over looking their street, scanned the rooftops one final time for any sign of the mysterious attacker, which was made practically impossible by the raging sandstorm. She gave up on him for now, instead resolving to do what needed to be done. She angled herself facing the nearest head and sprinted in that direction.
Using the parapet, she jumped into the air fluidly, with catlike grace, she entered into what almost looked like a dive, her two arms above her head, hands together in a point, claws extended, and glowing white.
For her, time seemed to almost slow down as her speed drastically picked up. She was holding the She enforced her claws with her aura, and wished at this moment that she'd had a fancy weapon like those below. She then activated her defense aura, as she would likely be slamming into this thing with some considerable force, not to mention that speeding through sand at over fifteen-hundred mile per hour was not a very pleasant experience without some form of defense. That aside jumping at a solid wall of scales was not a typical use of her semblance, and she imagined it'd be about as pleasant as the time she'd accidentally slammed into a tree when she was still getting the hang of her semblance. That is to say, not pleasant at all. She could see the wall of scales drawing closer, and she couldn't help but feel as if she were charging towards certain death. The white glow of light marked her path, from the roof top where she'd observed the fight straight to the neck of the snake. Those who basked in the light from this white light got the sense that everything was going to be okay, and that it was all going to work out in the end. A feeling that Lily herself wished that she could mirror.
Her every instinct begged her to run, screamed for her to flee, and yet she could not. She'd finally settled on a path in life worth choosing, and she couldn't back away now. She wasn't the same lost little girl wandering the wilds and looking for some Grimm to enact whatever petty vengeance she desired upon them. She had been saved, and when she was the belief she'd held so surely her whole life, that only family will look after you, that you are strong enough to survive on your own, or you will die, had been shattered. She had been saved, and she wanted to repay that debt to the sort of society that churned out individuals who were willing to fight for others. She gritted her teeth as she impacted, her claws, infused with the aura from her attack, did actually seem to have some effect.
"Good." She growled happily, as she began digging her claws in over and over in an effort do do more damage.

When Eve took the lead, Ferr lowered his shield so he could see the path clearly. By this time, his semblance was draining more aura than he would have liked. Taking moment and lagging behind, Ferr exhaled and released the semblance. His aura would appear and disappear. The glow in his eyes vanished as they caught up to the students. With the Princess in his sight Ferr felt a minor wave of relief wash away his exhustion. It seemed the youngsters were giving Amber's assailant a good round of attacks. "Nice." He muttered before the earth began to quake. Locking his eyes onto the dark figure, Ferr looked over the man. His ears burned when Amber murmured the individuals name. Without much to say or do, Ferr just looked at the apparent cultist. Once his eyes landed on the same marking as Eve and Amber saw, Ferr gained a quizzical look. The Grapheme seemed strange and yet similar. With a shake of his head, he took a step towards the man just after he vanished. "Damn it."
It the limbo-like moment after the man's disappearance, Ferr let out a sigh. He was feeling very tired. The knight used up a good deal of aura in the fight before. He'd wish for a moment of rest but was denied that satisfaction. As the titanic Grimm emerged from below the earth, Ferr took a moment to pause in the beast's size. It's very nature dwarfed each and every structure that challenged it. It's path was easy and it would sweep away anything and everything. As the numerous howls of dying civilians filled the air, Ferr's body couldn't move fast enough. "Get the Princess out of the combat zone! She is the main objective!"
Looking at Ferr's running form was like studying a text book. He would dart through the city with knees and long strides. The urgency of this moment was like a drug. It flowed through Ferr and took control of his motor functions. His mind became narrow and the only desire he felt was the safety of the citizens. At this point keeping the death toll from rising was the number one concern. Reaching for his side-arm, Ferr bit his lip in regret. Firearms were never his cup of tea. Fighting an enemy at range was seen as a cowardly strategy to the warrior. However it was his own option. The standard officer pistol began to sound off as Ferr's eyes trained on the King of Snakes. Though he doubted his bullets would do any damage.

So, the snake died, fell into the sands, and then popped out stronger than ever. This feels like one of those comic books, except the snake isn't the good guy....I think... he thought as everything transpired. Most of the conversation that the others had fell on inattentive ears. After all, why should he care about some guy at the moment, when the primary objective was to get the princess out of Setek and into the safety of the Kingdom Neutral Academy. And then the target said something that Chrohn resonated with, but despite how much he agreed with it, why did she have to say it now.
It was clear to Chrohn that attempting to pick up the princess and run off with her was a bad idea; it wasn't a well formulated plan, and his allies might think he to be up to something else. I don't like fighting the giant Serpantozilla monsters though....Why couldn't it be like, smaller Berghasts or something? He sighed as he looked at the monster. Chrohn looked at his hands, and back at the monster, swapping glances between the two several times. "I don't have gauntlets for this, nor do I remember the proper technique, so I guess it's time to test my luck," he said aloud, albeit mostly to himself.
Here he pulled out his sword, and out of habit, reached on his back for the hoverboard, only to be reminded of Eve's words. And it was those words that put him into the state of a deeper thought than he was used to. "Nah, it's too risky right now," he said with a tinge of regret, moving his hand away from the board, and back to his sword. And then he heard the other adult hunter speak. "Uh, this is too much. Our goal is telling us to fight, and the protectors of said goal are telling us to run. What should I do..." he paused, as he trailed off," no, what should we do? Eve, Dusty, Mizu, any suggestions. I'd figure we best get our ducks in a row before running around so that we aren't all running around in different directions for the sake of achieving different things."

Dusty stared at where the man as the smoke cleared from his numerous arrows, cursing under his breath when his attacks seemed to do next to nothing other than rip up his clothes a little bit. He quickly drew another arrow from his quiver, notched it on to the bow string, and pulled back on the bow. He glared down the shaft the arrow, staring at the cultist with the arrow pointed directly at his bandaged face. He heard Amber whisper a strange name under her breath, which seemed to incite a quiet laugh from the hooded man. The young man grimaced. What the hell was actually going on in Remnant? "While I'm flattered that you think that, Mr. Cultist," Dusty said, pulling back on the string a little more, "I'll have to decline. When I look for a job, I like to make sure there's a good dental plan, 401k, and my boss not being a psychotic, giant monster worshiping crazy person! Now quit it with the vague messages and give us a straight answer! What the hell are you talking about?!" Before he could get his answers, though, the man disappeared in a flash of light. Dusty let the tension off of his bow and lowered it, gritting his teeth in frustration. "Dammit. Can someone just give me a straight answer for once? What test are you talking abou-"
Dusty's sentence was cut short as the giant snake, which was somehow bigger than the last one, rose up out of the sand. He turned to look at it and stamped his foot like a child. "Really? Another god damn snake?! Why is it always snakes?!" The young man's knuckles turned white from how hard he was gripping onto his bow as he looked over at Chrohn. "I don't know, Chrohn. The only thing I can think of is making a shadow giant big enough to box with the damn thing, but I'm not sure I can make one that big, especially with the weather the way it is, he gestured to the sandstorm raging around them. "If we could rustle up enough shadows for me to use and if Mizumi synchronized with me, maybe. And that'd probably be the only way I wouldn't die just from over exertion. It's a long shot, at best, and I'm not certain it would work in the slightest, but what I do know is that our world is worth fighting for. And if saving it takes killing this thing," Dusty pointed to the giant snake, "and finding out about this weird cult, then I'll do anything within my power to accomplish that!"

Post by Mizumi Tai on Aug 28, 2016 0:53:08 GMT -6
Mizumi caught up to the rest of them just after the multi-headed snake Grimm rose from the sands. Its arrival caused her to stagger for am minute, before redoubling her efforts to find Dusty and the rest of her friends. She got to them, found them all staring at the beast and heard a mystery woman, the princess she assumed, tell them they needed to take it down. Mizumi couldn't have agreed more, and she walked up to Dusty. While she did so, her hammer was spinning around her and impacting the ground. It did this motion twice before she got to the smaller boy, who she smiled brightly at. She had to refrain from hugging him tightly, after all this was a battlefield, somewhere her emotions couldn't interfere with her judgement. "We can synchronize. But, I...I want you to be sure before we do. We, we, y'know, emotions transmit, and we, well, of course if you, uuuum." She stuttered her words, kicking the ground lightly and blushing as she spoke. She spun Blowback around again, the hammer's head slamming into the ground and its purple crystals glowing brighter. In this moment, she had completely forgotten about the Taijitu demolishing the city behind her. Every fiber of her being was focused on Dusty, and she stared at him for a moment too long, sighing wistfully at him. He looked so perfect in this moment, that cocky smile, his blond hair framing his face in beautiful portrait, as he stood tall and proud with his bow. Well, maybe not as tall as her, but that was irrelevant. Mizumi shook herself from her stupor, blushing deeper as she realized that she had let her mind wander off. She coughed at herself, angling her gaze away from the rest of the group. Her eyes alighted on the heads of the snake terrorizing the city, and her gaze become a little bit more stoic. "I guess we don't have much choice. Okay Dusty, I'm gonna synch us up now. I...I'll try not to overwhelm you with, emotion." She reached out with her aura, the blue glow surrounding her and beginning to pulse with a rhythm. Shortly after, Dusty's yellow aura appeared around him as well, pulsing a different rhythm from Mizumi's. The giant woman focused, her eyes closing as she found the rhythm of his soul with her own, and matched hers to his. The connection formed between them, and though she tried her best to keep her emotions from passing to Dusty a little bit of her wellspring of care and worry for him would make it through. Mizumi opened her eyes and saw that Dusty's aura had turned green, as had her own. She spun Blowback through the air once more, slamming it into the ground before lifting it and holding it in a fighting stance. "Okay, I, we're ready to go." Her thoughts reached out to Dusty, and the innate knowledge that came from synchronizing allowed him to pretty much hear what she was thinking. Be careful Dusty. I can't lose you. With that, she began running towards the Taijitu Nagara, ready to give it her all to take that thing down. She only hoped it would be enough, and that nobody would get hurt in the process. However, some deep, dreary part of her knew that was just a fools hope. What they were fighting was massive, and terrifying, and the likelihood of everybody getting out unscathed was close to nothing. Still, she had to try. Aisio Pendragon Aisio and Ash made their way through the city, each of them rushing faster than a normal person could walk. Aisio made her way through the skies on her wings of fire while Ash sprinted underneath her, the winds at his back carrying him faster and faster. Ash retracted the blades on his vambraces and greaves, leaving him with simply fancy pieces of brown armor, and Aisio stored Flamelash upon her harness once more. The two of them skid to a stop upon seeing a beam of energy shoot from the ground, and the Taijitu sprouting from the sands once more with more heads and a bladed tail. They looked at each other and a single nod from each of them had them moving towards the source once more. Aisio would be visible from the sky as she flew towards the group, arriving shortly after Mizumi finished her synchronize. Ash was close behind her, stepping towards the group in a burst of wind. His skin returned to normal tones and he pushed his half moon glasses further up his face. Aisio descended to the ground, her wings pulling behind her like those of an angel and she looked around. She recognized Dusty and Ferr, but the rest of them were unfamiliar faces. Something about one of the woman in the group reminded her of somebody, something she felt she should know. Aisio stared at this person for a few seconds, until Ash bowed to her and revealed her identity. "Greetings, Princess." The gears in Aisio's brain clicked into place, and she nodded solemnly at Amber. She only hoped the princess wouldn't know of her involvement with the death of Rift's king, a long shot she knew, but one she had to hope for. Ash looked to Eve, rising from his bow and smiling to her. "And you must be Miss Shay. Pleasure to meet you, I am Ser Ash Nuada. This is Lady Aisio Pendragon, and we are here to assist as you need us.The winged warrior smiled towards them, looking towards the Taijitu and drawing Excalibur from its sheathe. The broken blade glinted in the light, the desert sun reflecting off its red metal with an eerie glow. She lit the blade aflame, the fire arcing across its surface and crackling from the jagged point while the heat merely melded with the scorching desert sun. She prepared to take off, her wings expanding behind her and lifting to thrust her into the air, when she felt a hand on her arm. Turning around she saw Ash holding her back. "My lady, stay here and protect the princess. You are each the last of your line, should either of you fall it will be a tragedy. I will assist in the fight against the creature." Aisio froze, looking between him and the massive snake with an uncertain glance. Then she sighed and nodded, pulling her wings back in and striding towards Amber. "Of course, you're right Ash." With that she stood next to the princess, pulling her shield off her back and holding it at her side, she turned to face the one she was now protecting. "If at any time we need to leave, I can fly us out. I hope you aren't afraid of heights."Combat Notes:Mizumi:Aura: 120/150 Charge Value: 17/200 Aisio and Ash:Aisio Aura: 350/400 Wing Duration: 8 Minutes Crystal Chamber Uses: 19/20 Ash Aura: 1150/1200

Seeing the beast get up and start wreaking havoc on the city made Adam grin and get into his Warmachine, revving the mighty "beast" and started towards the Giant Snake. Passing by the girl who was dueling the hooded freak he drove up along side her. "Hey kid you know how to operate a giant crossbow? Hop on and I'll get us closer." he said slowing down a bit to drive along side her as to give he an easier time to get on the crossbow in the back. Adam had no real reason to offer help but he felt generous as a hunt this big would be best shared with others.
Adam had 20 fire, wind, energy and Kinetic harpoons, 15 gravity harpoons, and 1 earth harpoon in quiver.
His vehicle would be the quickest way to get to the target and from his activity earlier, clearly he was not on the opposing side and had no real reason to harm or hurt the kids. His plan was to get in close and then leap onto the beast and find soft spot to start digging into the beast. Hell if he was feeling stupid and didn't care about his bike he could find a way to get his bike on the monster and drive to the thing's head. For now it's getting to the beast and seeing what he could do do the most damage.

Despite Eve’s willingness to follow Ferr’s direction, the Princess had already ran off in the direction of the massive many-headed snake that now hovered over the city. Eve scoffed at the sight of the beast, readying Skorpio for combat as she shot a glance at Ferr. “I’m just gonna focus on fighting that thing since she’s decided that’s the course of action.” She said. “I’ll assume you’ll be fighting, too. Take care of yourself, I guess." With a smile, she winked at the Huntsman before running off towards the massive Grimm. Surprisingly, Eve was somehow confident they’d survive. It was an odd sense of security, and hopefully it wouldn’t betray them. Finally reaching her target, she jabbed it several times with her weapon’s needle-like tip.
In the meantime, Amber’s attempt to run towards the massive Grimm before them was interrupted by a strange man cutting her off. He didn’t look familiar, nor did the woman accompanying him or the rest of the students that began entering the fray. Her only friend, at this point, was Dusty - the young man she had met some time after running away. Thankfully, he had not betrayed her, keeping her whereabouts - despite knowing very little about them - under wraps. “Uh…thanks, I think?” She replied, confused and at a loss for words. He knew they were mid-battle, right? Her eyes shifted between Ash and Aisio before continuing. “Anyway, we gotta focus on this monster. Your assistance, of course, is more than welcome!”
Preparing to bolt off again, Amber was again cut off by the sudden arrival of a rather intimidating man riding some sort of motorcycle. "Hey kid you know how to operate a giant crossbow? Hop on and I'll get us closer." The man inquired, apparently offering to help. Amber looked at him, confused, before glancing at the large harpoon. This could actually help out a lot. She thought quick, considering all her options. Trusting this man may have been a stranger, but she felt like she could consider him an ally. Against the creatures of Grimm, they all were, regardless of their political affiliations. She nodded, smiling fondly at the man for being so willing to help. “Alright, let’s give it a shot!” She said cheerfully. “Just don’t call me kid!”
Amber crawled onto the back of the bike, readying the massive siege weapon mounted on the back. She regarded each and every single one of the large harpoons set next to it. “Alright, let’s go!” She directed. She loaded up one giant harpoon after another, each one striking but a small portion of the massive Grimm. They no less seemed effective, which she guessed would be the case given the nature of the weapon. As the motorcycle moved on, Amber snagged a loose piece of rope before fastening it around her waist and the end of a Kinetic harpoon. She loaded the massive bolt into the crossbow, aiming towards the Taijitu Nagara with an almost devious grin, before firing.
The harpoon launched at remarkable speeds, almost as fast as the girl utilizing her Speed Semblance in combat against the creature. Her allies and their attacks all managed to meet their mark to a degree, with each attack bringing out a different response from the giant creature. Eve and Ferr’s weapons appeared to do the least good, but any damage was enough in Amber’s book. Meanwhile, the rest of them planned their attacks. In a blink, Amber activated her Semblance - manifesting Eisenheim’s Arsenal for the first time since learning how to properly use it. Her soft blue Aura flickered as it activated, serving almost as a beacon to her whereabouts for her allies.
Four weapons appeared, made of her elegant blue Aura. Three swords and a spear, weapons of her ancestors called to help her combat an enemy. The spear aimed itself towards the massive snake, speeding towards it in a blur. It was in that instant that Amber disappeared, appearing in a blink where the spear embedded itself into the Grimm’s armor plates. Holding onto it tightly, she looked up the neck she managed to hit, trying to sort out her next plan of attack. ‘You got this, Amber.’ She assured herself. ‘Just like Altimeda taught you.’
Off in the distance, positioned from a point where he had full view of the battlefield, the hooded attacker watched as they battled his mighty serpent. His eyes fell upon the Huntress from Legion, narrowing as a twisted grin formed over his face. “Aisio. Meet me outside the city wall after the Taijitu is defeated.” He said, his voice mysteriously echoing as if right next to her ear.
