Buddy you're a young man hard man, Shoutin' in the street gonna take on the world some day!
Truly, Raven never liked the wilds (though he might've thought otherwise if he was younger). To many, it was simply known as the 'No-man's Land', because it was teeming with both Grimm and untamed wildlife that was yet untouched by the hands of the industrial corruption and civilization. Not many dared to wonder out here, let alone live outside the safety of the kingdoms' walls. Only the Hunters and Huntresses came out here for various reasons, and to the brunette, his reasons for the trip out here was as good as their's - or at least, that's what he thought. His prosthetic arm was incorporated with some of the old world's technology during its overall design process, and to find the matching parts which were compatible was by digging through the remnants of the old kingdoms. Arguably, it was dangerous, but the brunette had already done this kind of exploration many times before. It wasn't like this was the first time he managed to lie his way out of Vytal without permission to do what he was doing under the facade that he was visiting his aunt. At this point, the boy could easily handle Grimm by himself and hold his own against them. He wasn't the same child as he was when his left arm got eaten by the Barghasts. Out in the wilds, it was quite inevitable for one to encounter such creatures and be fully prepared to fight them off as needed. So why risk so much over something so small? In many ways, he saw this as a part of his training, but with the limited usage of the 'Hellhound', Raven was fully aware of the kind of risks that the venturing could possibly invite. Strangely, however, he found himself in a completely different scenery unlike the last time he came out here. After briefly looking at the map on his scroll to track his current location, he deduced that he either: A) Took a wrong turn or B) He read the map wrong. He was just outside of the edge of Rift's territory and was slightly bordering towards Satek. If he kept going like this, then he could easily end up in the desert, which obviously would not end well for him. Deciding that it'd be best to turn back and retrack his route, but the sudden movement that he picked up from the corner of his eye stopped the young hunter in his tracks. When he turned to see what it was, a pair of crimson eyes shining in the blackness that it hid in stared back at him. <"Shit!"> Seeing that it was noticed, the figure sprang forth, its enormous maws splitting wide open. Raven hardly had any time to react, prepare his weapon or ready his aura for the sudden assault. Bringing forth his mechanical arm, the boy used it as a shield to keep the beast at bey, but the strength of the creature caused him to fall backwards and send both of them tumbling down to the trees below. As the creature desperately tried to chew away at his arm, the boy punched at its gut using the 'Hound' in hopes of getting it off as the hunter and the hunted plumetted down below. However before the two hit the ground, the brunette made sure to turn his body in such a way so that the creature would be the one hitting it first and hope that its carcass would serve as a cusion of somesorts - which it did, though Raven did end up with a sprained ankle afterwards, but he'd take that any day over being looking like a roadkill like the lone Barghast which attempted to eat him alive. Before the corpse disappered, Raven stood and spat on it before limping off to a nearby stump to check his foot. It was painful for him to get the boots off, but not being able to make a noise as he did so helped to keep any unwanted attention off of him. Fortunately, nothing was broken, but he'd fallen too far - and he didn't have a lot of day light left to get back. Not to mention, his scroll broke as a result of the fall. While the lack of GPS was a minor inconvenience, the boy knew he wasn't going to go anywhere at the state that he was in. At this rate, he was going to camp out here tonight. MADE BY VEL OF GS

----- Never stop Running ----- tag: --- // words: --- // notes: --- Lily had seen her friend Raven boarding an airship. She had intended to go say hi, but a scrap of paper escaping his notebook caught her eye. She dashed off to catch the wayward scrap of paper, finally catching it just as the airship took off.
"Waaaaait! You forgot your..." It was too late, the roar of the airship drowned out her attempt to be helpful. She looked at the paper, and puzzled over it for a few moments. It seemed to be a map on one side, with drawings of Raven's arm on the other. Sections of the map were circled, and scattered all throughout the continent. None of them were within the city limits in any of the kingdoms though. She let out a low growl, an inkling to what he may be up to beginning to sprout in her mind. "E-Excuse me sir," she said walking up to one of the attendants who oversaw the tickets for the airship. "Where is that ship heading? The one that just took off I mean."
"Oh that one? Should be heading for Willhelm."
"And that is...?" She asked sheepishly
"Willhelm? It's the westernmost city in Rift."
"Ahh, I see. Thank you sir!" She said as she turned to walk. She looked at the map on her paper, a couple of the circled areas were not far from the western edge of rift. She sighed an aggravated sigh, and grumbled "Idiot" under her breath.
The next few hours were spent gathering supplies. She didn't honestly need them, but they would be helpful. She gathered up some wire to use for campfire alarm systems, as well as some bells. Her other purchases included a pan that could be used over a fire, a first aid kit, extra water canteens, a fair amount of tarp, binoculars, and a lantern which could be used by raven, if he wasn't as accustomed to the dark as she was. The first aid kit included a wide variety of useful medicines ointments and wraps. She had gotten Antiseptic Wipe, Antibacterial Ointment, Compound tinctures of benzoin, fabric adhesive bandages, butterfly bandages, gauze pads in various sizes, nonstick sterile pads, medical tape, blister ointment, pain medications, insect sting ointments, tweezers, safety pins, elastic wrap, triangular cravat bandages, finger splints, more gauze, SAM splints, stretch to conform bandages, hemostatic gauze, liquid bandages, aloe vera gel, aspirin, throat lozenges, antacid tablets, lubricating eye drops, anti-itch powder, antifungal foot powder, epinepherin pens, and a guide book to help her out in case she forgot how to use some of them. She didn't know what more than half of it was for going into the store, but the sales people had been more than helpful, and she couldn't help but think of one situation or another where any of these might come in handy. Her final stop before heading back to her campsite was a small store that sold herbs and flowers, where she purchased a book on the wild herbs that exist in the outdoors. When she lived out there, she had often wondered what many of them did, but couldn't risk experimenting on herself.
When she returned to her campsite she cleared out her stores of rabbit, deer, and squirrel jerky. Roughly a week's worth of rations for her and raven. It was at this time her friend Celia popped in to visit, only to find Lily's supplies all packed up and ready to go. Lily showed Celia the paper she'd found as Raven left, and explained to her what she suspected the young idiot was up to. The two of them set out afterwards, finding themselves in the city of Willhelm. It was an old looking city, constructed mainly from stone and densely populated. The wall was massive, and heavily protected. Though, she had no doubt that the pair could find their way to the other side. "Huh... so this is what the wall looks like on the other side," Lily commented. She recognized the parapets and the height of the wall. She had been near here before, but had never dared to enter. Her parents had been incredibly wary of this place, and she had maintained that paranoia even after their deaths, though the nature of their concern never made itself clear to Lily. "We are near the area I used to call home. I used to wander all of the lands out there. Have you any questions before we leave the kingdoms? Our idiot friend is out there. Let us pray that we reach him before the Tosen do." She shuddered at the thought. He would hopefully have the good sense to run if he came in contact with one of those behemoths, but she wasn't entirely sure. He was rash sometimes.

Odd fragments of multicolored light danced across her vision as she palmed the immaculate black sphere that she had been given just a few days prior. It weighed heavily in her hand, not for the density it held, which was surprisingly low, but for the force it contained. She eyed it warily as she passed it back and forth between her hands, sitting idly on her bed as the early afternoon sun began to dip in through the windows of her dorm. The crystal disliked the light, as it seemed to swallow all that was unfortunate enough to wander near it. It was cold in her hand, the unnatural sort of bone-deep chill that only set in after hours spent in a blizzard - but it wasn’t painful. That was the worst part. That unearthly chill, that numbing feeling, that weight, that power…
It felt good.
The dust crystal hungered for her touch, and ate up as much as it could stomach with the ravenous fervor of a sponge dropped into an ocean. It pulsed in her hand, like a heartbeat. Ba-dum. Ba-dum. The slow, content rhythm mystified her, and she couldn’t help but touch it...touch it more. She wrapped her fingers around it as it sat in her right hand, and gave it a gentle squeeze. It grew colder, and the pulse quickened, but it fit so comfortably in her closed hand. She could feel her own heart slowing, matching the crystal’s, as her eyes began to unfocus. The room spun, and the cold set into her body, into her lungs, her heart, her mind. Everything was blurry, and dark. It felt like she was...floating away from her body, like she was somehow falling out of reality. Voices echoed through her mind, hundreds of people, millions of words. It hurt. It burned at her mind, but she could not make it stop, until…
“Use it wisely.”
She dropped the crystal and it struck the carpeted floor with with a dull thud, rolling away from her and towards the desk that sat at the other end of the room. She was shaking, and sweating, her heart was beating so fast she thought it might explode. She couldn’t bring herself to move, but she stared ahead at the blank, white wall above her desk. She couldn’t look at the thing. Not after that.
Use it wisely...what had Alice meant by that? She couldn’t understand what she had to gain from using Void dust, especially considering the crystal she already had. It was supposed to be used only in a dire circumstance, when all other options had been exhausted. She was certain it would kill her, or at the very least damage her beyond repair. Why would the woman encourage her to do something so dangerous?
Celia swung her legs off the side of her bed and stood up, letting her arms fall to her sides. Maybe she could use it, without having to expose herself directly to it. A clone...a clone could use the dust, so she wouldn’t have to. Still, such a thing felt risky to her. It would be best to wait for something like that, do it in private. Void dust was illegal for a reason, and she would be discovering that reason firsthand. It would be best to keep it a secret, unless she felt her life was in danger.
She went to the window, letting the incident slip from her mind so she could gaze out at the forest that bordered the school’s backside. It was a mild day, it seemed. The sun was high, the clouds were thin, the wind was light, and there was a general sense of calm to the world. “Hiking weather,” as her mother called it. Indeed it was quite a beautiful day outside, and she was a little ashamed she had spent it in her dorm, half sulking, half pondering. It would do her well to go outside.
She picked up the crystal and set it into a canister, which she shoved far into the back of her closet where it couldn’t be easily seen or felt, and grabbed her travelling pack from the upper shelf. It only held a few things, a first aid kit, a few knives, various firestarters, a blanket, and the like. She was raised by a survivalist, and didn’t need much with her in order to be okay. She filled up her canteen in the bathroom sink, set her weaponry onto herself, and headed out the door, locking it behind her.
Lily would be a good place to start, if she was looking for something outdoorsy and productive. Even if they ended up just sitting by the fire, eating jerky and telling stories, it would be time well spent - then again, time with her friends was always time well spent. Celia made her way out to where she remembered her friend’s campsite was set up, and was surprised to see a majority of things mysteriously packed up for reasons she couldn’t immediately discern. Lo and behold, Lily was in the middle of it lugging some rather heavy-looking bags. Celia inquired what was happening, and Lily was all too eager to fill her in. Apparently, her partner had the brilliant idea to go off into the wilderness, without telling anyone, alone. She could perhaps understand if there was a very personal reason that he was just not telling them, but even then it wouldn’t be such a hassle to just...tell them. She couldn’t speak for Lily, though she suspected her to be of a similar mindset to her own, in that she would have understood Raven’s need to go out and be alone for a while, even if he didn’t give a reason. She would have even helped him pack, maybe even lend him some of the gear that her mother had given her. Still, she couldn’t bring herself to be angry. She had done the same thing twice now.
Lily and herself set out towards the far western part of Rift, to a small city Lily referred to as Willhelm. "Huh... so this is what the wall looks like on the other side." Celia had similar thoughts. She had seen the walls from either side before, but the west gate seemed different from the east gate that she was used to going through. The trip brought her through a very small city by the name of Aegis. It was a common stop for Hunters, as it was home to one of the best weapon and armor forges outside of Legion. In addition to that, there were plenty of dust stores and specialty shops that catered towards people needing work done with higher-grade cloth or dust thread. It also had a variety of restaurants and bars that never seemed to do anything other than great business. The place really had it all.
Willhelm, on the other hand, seemed very barebones in comparison. It was small, and packed with people, with very old stone houses that littered the town in uneven spacing, as if the village had been constructed before any kind of street system had been created. It didn’t quite fit with the wall that surrounded its west side, high, imposing, and littered with armored guards and high-tech weaponry. That was the only real parallel she had felt between the two sides, the actual walls.
"We are near the area I used to call home. I used to wander all of the lands out there. Have you any questions before we leave the kingdoms? Our idiot friend is out there. Let us pray that we reach him before the Tosen do." Lily brought Celia out of her daydreaming, reminding her that there was a very good reason that they had come here. She slung the single pack she brought over her shoulder and adjusted her sword as it sat at her side. She was a survivalist, and didn’t need much. Lily had brought plenty of supplies anyhow, and they would be sticking close together out in the wilds. Hopefully, they wouldn’t be out there more than a few days. She was only halfway through the essay she had to do for Professor Thorn’s class. She shook her head at her friend’s question.
“I’ll be fine, I used to live out here too.” She paused for a moment, to think of what to add on. “Well, on the other side of Rift, anyway. I think I’ll be okay out here, too.” The gate was high and imposing, much larger in size than it really had any right to be, especially if it wasn’t meant to be letting in anything larger than a truck. It seemed there was no wait today, as the guards around the station itself seemed to be rather bored. She supposed it was a bit boring down by the station as opposed to being up on top of the wall. At least on the wall there was a view. And more than one three directions to look in. The guard perked up as they approached, asking to see their identification. Vytal Student IDs, which qualified them for easy access to the outside of the kingdoms. They were waved through, and escorted to the large gate by another guard. The massive steel door creaked and groaned on the mechanisms that allowed it to slide open, and it was only opened wide enough to allow them and nothing wider to pass. The station guard and the escort each gave them a thumbs up as they stepped through, and as they began to walk, the door closed behind them. A few guards called out from up on the wall. Not wanting to be rude, Celia turned and waved to them, flashing a bright smile. Before long, though, their voices faded into the distance. She focused on the journey ahead, adjusting her pack as she idly thought aloud.
“I missed being out here.”
...met before?
