CELIA ABBOTT |
★ APPEARANCE
Celia is a girl of average height with a slim, athletic build of dense musculature and long, sleek limbs, wrought from the many years she spent training with her father, William, and her mentor, Minette. Her skin is lightly tanned and marred with light scars across her body, with heavier scarring on her palms and shins. Beneath her black cloak is her tail, a bushy fox tail with mottled spots of various monochrome shades, with an orange stripe running down the underside from the midpoint to the base. Her natural strength and agility are superb for someone of her experience level, but you wouldn't be able to tell that just by looking at her. Celia's facial features are soft, a button nose, rounded cheeks, and wide, vibrant golden eyes that seem to radiate warmth. Her hair is a shade of gray not far from that of her tail, albeit more consistent, somewhat maintained and cut into a short bob.
Her choice of dress is somewhat counterintuitive, providing little protection and close to no armor, as a way to reinforce the punishment she will endure should she fail to keep up with her intensive aura training. She wears a black, midriff-bearing tank top beneath a flat-collar sleeveless coat that she keeps zipped at the top and undone further down, black trimmed with gray, the zippered portion stylistically modeled after her sword, with an orange stripe that runs across the back and to the front of the midriff when fully zipped. Her shoulders are bare, but her arms are concealed by black arm warmers, each with a single orange stripe down the side, and a pair of black leather gloves. She also wears a pair of gray shorts that reach to her calves, and shin-length black combat boots with orange soles and collars. In her hair, above her left eye, she wears a simple orange and black barrette. She feels incredibly comfortable in these clothes, and will use them as both combat attire and casual wear.
★ PERSONALITY
★ HISTORY
Celia was born far east of the city of Rift, in a small settlement that hugged the mountainside. Her home was protected by a small number of Hunters, many of whom had come out of the troublesome noise and grandeur of the city in order to lead simpler lives. Among them was her father, William Abbott. A Huntsman hailing from a prestigious family in Legion, William had first come to the settlement shortly after graduating from Vytal as part of a mission. Marcie, Celia’s mother, was the reason he chose to stay.
All through her childhood, Celia was made uncomfortably aware of just how big of a threat the Grimm were. Though their settlement was defended by many, they were nonetheless in the open - and the Grimm took advantage of that. Many people in her life disappeared in the night, only for what remained of them to be found the next morning torn into bloody scraps of flesh and cloth. She held a deep fear for the terrifying creatures that haunted her small town, not at all helped by the fact that she could do nothing to defend it - or even herself. Her parents understood her fears. Though her father was averse to the idea initially, Marcie began to teach Celia archery, slowly building up to tracking and hunting as well. William, when he was home, would educate her in a sort of faux-swordfighting that would not be particularly stressful on her in her immaturity, more for her to get the technique down so she would be prepared for later on when he would seriously train her.
Two particular figures came into her life at the same time, when Celia was around eight years old. The first, Minette Belrose, was an old friend of her father’s. A kind and gentle woman, one who enjoyed the peace and quiet of the forest just as Celia herself did, and who knew much about something Celia found herself interested in - Aura. Minette was a monk, her dad had told her, a student of the monasteries in Cela. When her parents were busy, Celia would spend time with Minette - learning about Aura and martial arts to supplement her other simplistic training. When they weren’t training, Minette would tell Celia stories of her journeys and missions as a Hunter, great epics that would take up entire afternoons and often burn long into the evenings.
The second was Agnès, Minette’s daughter. Although initially the two argued and bickered, they quickly warmed up to one another when they discovered their shared desire to become Hunters. Agnès was a loud and energetic girl, outgoing, confident, everything Celia wanted to be. They became rivals in a sense, always striving to be better as the other grew stronger still, but never quite able to overtake one another. She trained alongside Celia with Minette, giving the two plenty of opportunities to spar against an opponent of relatively equal skill and power. When they weren’t training, the two would explore the forests and caves surrounding the town - but they were always careful of Grimm. Though Agnès would often tell Celia that the two of them were “unstoppable” together, Celia was far less sure of their skill as partners. Celia usually won out during those arguments.
As Celia grew older still, and her training became more intense, her father and Minette took her into the city on her 12th birthday. They had brought Celia to a forge, to help her construct her own unique weapon, a mechanical bow-sword hybrid which she christened “New Dawn”, a reference to a story Minette had told her. When they brought her back, her father and Minette told her that they would both be leaving on separate missions for the next week or so, and Agnès would be returning to Vytal that afternoon to start her next year. Celia, though disappointed that she would be mostly alone for a while, accepted it. She trained on her own out in the forest, allowing her body to grow used to the unfamiliar weight and force of her new weapon. Her training was interrupted by screams further into the forest, and by a crowd off children rushing in her direction from out in the forest. They had been followed by Grimm - an Elder Taijitu. The ensuing battle between the Grimm and herself allowed her to discover her Semblance, though it came with quite a bit of pain. In the end, though, she won.
Weeks later, after Minette had returned from her mission, Celia and her mother received a visit from some officials from Legion military, informing them that William had lost his life on his mission - though they would not comment on exactly what happened. Everyone in the settlement took the news hard, and Celia threw herself entirely into training over the next few months in preparation for her entry into Vytal Academy. Marcie came to attempt to console her, but was turned away. Minette offered to train with her, but was refused. Even when Agnès took the a holiday off from the Academy to come home and beat some sense into her friend, Celia did not waver. Agnès made good on her offer - even before the proper start of her training as a Huntress, Agnès's time at the academy had put her on a level of skill above Celia. She was beaten handily, and Agnès dragged her back into town in the snow. Back to Minette, back to her mother, back to where she needed to be.
The four of them argued and bickered into the night, the loudest voice among them that of Marcie - who was stalwart in her refusal to let Celia go to Vytal for even a moment. After the loss of her husband, she would not allow her daughter to ever be a Huntress. Agnès was adamant in her own, trying to convince Marcie that the entire reason Celia wanted to be a Huntress in the first place was to protect people - that following in her father's footsteps would honor his memory. Minette did her best to play mediator, but had a fair few opinions of her own. Celia kept silent for the most part. Her mind was already made up.
Her past four years at Vytal were, for the most part, forgettable. She kept in contact at home with her mother and Minette, and kept Agnès out of trouble on campus. She mostly kept to herself out of principle, most attempts at being social ending in abject failure, or friends that Agnès warned her to not associate with. She's eager to try and get a fresh start her freshman year.

★ COMBAT NOTES
WEAPONS
From her father, as he had been from his own, Celia was trained in the art of swordsmanship until she was able to match him without Aura. From her mother, she was taught the ways of archery and marksmanship until she could take down a deer from half a mile away with no sights. From Minette, she learned to stretch the boundaries of her Aura to achieve feats she had never dreamed of. Her combat style emphasizes precision in movement and smooth applications of power, with no room for error or even the slightest hesitation. Her weapon is the amalgam of her skill given physical form, a custom-made mechanical marvel that she built with guidance from her father and his old teammates.
"New Dawn" is the name she gave her weapon, a katana with the ability to mechanically change form into that of a compound bow. In it's blade form, it is a black katana with a notched, orange edge, perfectly sharpened and treated with gravity dust to alter the balance. The guard and hilt are of similar coloring, with the black guard extending slightly over the hilt, with the orange edge just barely not touching Celia's hand, and the black hilt tightly wrapped with an orange cloth. It sits within it's sheath at Celia's side or lengthwise across her back, a simple black leather sheath that only somewhat fits the blade - the original having been destroyed. Though it uses no dust, outside that used for it's reinforcement, the blade is incredibly durable, and extremely dangerous in her hands.
A switch on the back of the guard allows Celia to change from blade mode into bow mode, causing the hilt to slide upwards along the back of the blade, and the sword itself to split into sections and nodes that mechanically simulate the flexibility of fiberglass bow limbs, along with a kinetic dust-weave bowstring normally hidden within the core of the blade. The bow lacks complicated sights, as Celia doesn't need them to shoot accurately, and has a draw weight of close to 250lbs. The arrows Celia uses are reinforced, with razor-sharp broadheads, a set of thirty arrows kept in a multi-tiered fixed quiver on her back. There is a compartment on the bow, beneath the grip, for a dust crystal if she wishes to use one - though she does not often keep them on hand.
MISC.
Unbeknownst to her mother, her mentor, and even her closest friend, Celia is in possession of a single Void dust crystal, which she found hidden within the sheathe that once housed her father's lost sword. She keeps it in the barrette in her hair, tucked away from prying eyes, in anticipation for an emergency. She does not want to use it, she says it feels...wrong. But at the same time, she will do anything she can to protect others - no matter the cost. When the time comes, she will ingest it and hope for the best.
A paradoxical mixture of sunlight and cold night, the calm wind and gentle warmth that comes with the first few minutes of sunrise on a clear spring day. It gently radiates out from her, the warm, orange center melting outwards into a mist of blue and black, like seeing a campfire burning through a thick fog. You are invigorated by the scent of cool, fresh air, and you feel the peace of mind you need to tackle any challenge. Celia's extensive aura training under her Minette has led her to develop a full and potent aura very rare for someone of her age, and has trained her extensively in the use of aura as a defensive tool. Currently, Celia uses her raw aura primarily for defense, as her semblance and weapon are incredibly powerful offensive tools on their own.
Her primary skill is Defensive Enhancement, which manifests in the form of a translucent orange barrier she projects from her palm. It costs her 4 AP to use once, and she is able to use it with little to no problem at even low levels thanks to her training.
REFRACT
Celia can manifest a limited number of physical clones from her body, which are able to attack, defend, move, and think independently of her. She is also able to augment the clones with dust, changing the color of their orange highlights to match the color of the dust she used to augment them. The clones, while strong, are fragile - one solid hit, or a flurry of weaker attacks, is enough to take them down, as they only have as much Aura as Celia gives them when they are first summoned. Once the clones are taken down, Celia will take on any and all information they gathered during their existence, but will also be burdened with the pain their last hit would have brought them (but only the pain - she will not sustain an injury). In addition, Celia can have a maximum of two clones active at any given time, and if a clone remains after another is killed, they will also experience the pain of the lost clone. Instead of destroying the clones, Celia can also absorb them and regain any remaining aura they still hold. The clones may involuntarily disappear if Celia is at low Aura levels or under extreme emotional duress, and if she is at very low levels, she loses the ability to summon them altogether.
Cost:
10 + X AP - Summon clone (Where "X" is the value of AP given to the clone upon initial summon, at least 10)
15 + X AP - Summon dust-augmented clone.
10 AP - Absorb clone (Cost can be lessened or mitigated depending on how much aura clone still has.)
Celia cannot summon clones if she has less than 25 AP.
If Celia finds herself conflicted or emotionally compromised while clones are not active, they may involuntarily manifest to console her. Augmenting clones with dust may also change their behavior. For example, clones she augments with fire dust tend to be far more reckless and offense-driven than Celia herself would normally be. Due to both of these aspects of her semblance, Celia will often use her abilities outside of combat in order to help her make decisions, overcome problems, or deal with her own personal issues.
