The island air continued to nipping at Amber’s skin, the goosebumps on her arms and legs growing more defined and clearly noticeable with each passing minute. Her eyes, those curious blue orbs that perfectly mirrored the island’s morning sky, remained fixed on the gazebo ahead. She wondered what would happen once they reached the top, what kind of view waited for the two to share. It grew more and more romantic as she stood there, anticipating it all with an eager smile taking up the little space between the corners of her lips. Even if there weren’t intimate connotations to the night, the opportunity to spend time with someone - even for a little while - was something Amber was prepared to hold on to.
Likely forever.
At the sound of Ferr’s chuckle, Amber spun around on her heel to look back down in his direction, her smile growing in moderation as he nodded up at her. "Yeah. I'll be there in just a second." He said, stretching in preparation for his next leap up. Her eyes remained fixed on him, observing and scrutinizing every little detail about the young man’s physique, wondering about all the feats he might have performed in his relatively short life. Being a Huntsman was one thing, but from what she had gathered so far Ferr Aesir was anything but a simple Huntsman. He was the Odin of the Aesir Clan, a leader to his people and - in all likelihood - held with some degree of fame among the people of the northern kingdom.
When Ferr sprung from his feet, Amber took a few haphazard steps backward, giving him plenty of room to climb up from the ledge. The last thing she wanted was to get in the way, let alone cause the young man to fall back down. He remained there as she turned her back to him again, casually gliding in the direction of the gazebo to take in the beauty one last time before they continued on. Part of her wanted to say something. A compliment, maybe a tease? Anything was better than nothing, but just as she opened her mouth to speak, she felt his hand take hers. The sensation was warm, though she was unable to figure whether it was him or her - or if, perhaps, it was both. Her heart began to skip as her eyes hovered up to his own, returning his smile with a coy smirk.
"Come here. This is what that hard work was for."
Amber followed without protest, her grip on Ferr’s hand firm but gentle as the two moved over a slight dome that rose from the roof’s otherwise flat surface. On the inside, Amber was a mess, her heart racing and stomach churning as they continued on. Much like how he had acted when he caught her back in Setek, Ferr treated Amber in ways that made it impossible not to think of home. He was quite the gentleman, a far cry from the young men that tried to court her once she came of age. They were the same old thing, day in and day out. Ferr, however, was different - and she could feel it. It was likely due to his upbringing, melding the young Hunter into - at least in her opinion, so far - the ideal man.
Finally reaching the gazebo, Amber’s curious blue eyes locked onto the structure as her grip on Ferr’s hand grew tighter. The blue and white building, large enough for a small group of people, stood in stark contrast to the otherwise bland rooftops. “Oh my god, Ferr…” She muttered in a soft tone. “This is so beau- wha?!” Her compliment of the scene, so far, was cut off by Ferr rushing her into the small structure. Within it was a solitary bench, leaving the gazebo otherwise empty. Before she was able to conclude her previous statement, Ferr motioned off in the distance - drawing her eyes away from him and off into the horizon, specifically to the northern portion of the island. "Look out there. You see it?"
Wide eyed, Amber stared blankly for a moment before the lights finally started to fade into view. She squinted, grinning with elation as a sea of lights finally revealed themselves. There were so many, some different colors and of varying intensity than the rest. It was absolutely gorgeous, possibly the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. Back home, there was too much light to really get a read on things. Back home, things like this were typically drowned out by the intense lights that kept the Kingdom in an almost perpetual state of daytime. As the wind blew through the island, sending a ripple through the trees below, it sent a sharp chill up Amber’s spine. She shivered, turning to face Ferr as he spoke up. "It's not much. But I thought you'd might enjoy it."
His hold on her hand released, and though she was reluctant at first, Amber eventually relinquished her grasp on his too. Watching him as he walked away, setting himself up on the bench to rest, Amber giggled under her breath. She hadn’t considered how tough the climb might have been, especially with the added nip of the island’s crisp air. “This is…well, it’s beautiful, Ferr.” She finally said in a sheepish tone, raising her left hand to lightly touch her face. It was warm, meaning she was blushing - again. “Honestly, this has probably been the most fun I’ve had in a really, really long time - even though we just got up here.”
She approached timidly, sitting next to him as he closed his eyes. “You’ll never know how important this has been to me…” She said in a whisper, holding her hands together as she spun her thumbs around one another. To spend time with this man, to get to know what little she was able to in the time, and to understand one of the figures behind the event leading to her father’s death - it was just what she needed. Had Ferr known the circumstances, she was sure the path the two now shared would’ve been much different. That said, she wouldn’t change it for the world - not with where it had her know. Perhaps, all this time, what she truly needed was a little bit of closure.
With Ferr, even for that brief moment, that’s exactly what she found.
