"Well..." He began, letting out a sigh before his response began. Amber leaned against the windowsill once again, her complete and undivided attention on Ferr as he spoke about growing up. Being paired at birth sounded absolutely dreadful, and caused her to think about how her father had intended to pair her with a son of one of the other Kingdoms’ rulers. The idea of such a thing was one of the many factors that led to her running away. ”But my mother was allowed to be with the one she loved. Rare for it to happen but it gave me a sense of hope y'know? An example that love conquers all. Or something like that."Love and hope. These were two things Amber believed in more than anything. Sure, she was a romantic, but love was an incredibly powerful force. This was a fact. Love was responsible for the most modest of things, like starting a family and doing your part - it was also the driving force behind some of mankind’s greatest accomplishments. Were it not for their love for one another, none of their ancestors would ever have left the mountains. Hope was just as powerful, responsible for some of the world’s greatest feats twofold. Amber had plenty of these things. ”Love does conquer all.” She thought with a grin, so wide the corners of her mouth curled slightly. The tone of the conversation changed as Ferr spoke of his parents. It must have been hard for all of them after his father’s accident. Such a thing, on top of being their first and only child, had to have thrown overwhelming amount of weight on the young Ferr’s shoulders. She wondered if something at home influenced his being taken away by his grandfather, or if it was just commonplace in their clan to leave to be trained from a young age. All that said, the thing that stuck out the most to her was the the bit about family. It was absolutely important, and was something Amber cherished more than anything. She smiled shyly as a series of…different thoughts rushed through her mind."But that is enough of me. I too would like a little insight to a Princesses life in the castle. What was it like being a kid with access to a wealth of luxury?" Ferr then inquired, causing her eyes to shoot up to him with an almost confused expression.Of course he’d ask the same thing back.Amber’s expression twisted slightly as she tried to find the best words to answer his question. “Well, I suppose it’s about what most people expect.” She said, brushing her hair behind one of her ears. “Ever since I was a little girl, I was being conditioned to become a ‘proper’ lady. Despite that, I never really saw that as my life. I fell in love with the stories of the Huntsman and Huntresses from before the Calamity, stories of places like Beacon and Atlas.” Taking a brief pause, she lifted herself up into the windowsill, her feet dangling freely as her eyes resettled on Ferr. “My father even planned to have me marry someone that I didn’t even know, just for the sake of politics.”“Luckily, it never came to that. Despite butting heads, my father understood me and my desires. I’m sure that when the end came, he knew why I made the decision to run away.” She continued with a sigh, doing her best to maintain a smile. “Something I’ve always kind of believed in, Ferr, is that we all only have one life. It’s important that we live it, fully and without restraint. I don’t want to walk on eggshells all my life. I don’t want to live dwelling on what some people would call regrets.” With a fond smile, Amber raised her right hand, holding it out towards Ferr.“I just want to live.” |

“Well, I suppose it’s about what most people expect." She began while moving aside her hair. Ferr had joked about her living a life of luxury. It was an obvious condition for living as a Princess. But the way she began to explain it made Ferr question the way royalty functioned. “Ever since I was a little girl, I was being conditioned to become a ‘proper’ lady. Despite that, I never really saw that as my life. I fell in love with the stories of the Huntsman and Huntresses from before the Calamity, stories of places like Beacon and Atlas. My father even planned to have me marry someone that I didn’t even know, just for the sake of politics.” Of course that would be the case. For the families held in the upper echelon of society, it was common. Almost expected really. Ferr would lean against the wall as Amber's voice caused a lulling effect on the man. He was growing tired but didn't show it much. It would be rude of him to show it. That and he wished to hear the whole thing through. As she spoke of the King, Ferr's eyes dropped down a tad bit. When he became a father, would he too understand what went through that man's mind? Could he even fathom it? To be able to understand and accept something like that in his final moments would take love and understanding. Ferr just hoped he had enough of it when his time came. But with that, a sigh would escape Amber's lips. “Something I’ve always kind of believed in, Ferr, is that we all only have one life. It’s important that we live it, fully and without restraint. I don’t want to walk on eggshells all my life. I don’t want to live dwelling on what some people would call regrets. Time seemed to pause as Amber reached out her hand to Ferr. His azure eyes landed upon it with confusion but wonder. He removed his hands from his side before inching towards it. Before his laid atop her own, Ferr paused and thought about the situation. Was there even a situation to think about though? If he took her hand-- where was this going to go? What could he expect? His mind was flustered along with his heart. But the words rang continuously. They resonated with his own thoughts. His own wishes. Yes, it was clear to him. "I." He uttered before taking her hand into his own. "I want to live too. I want to live with a great purpose. And I want to live with hope, happiness and a clear mind." A lump would form in his throat before he quickly pulled Amber closer towards himself. Ferr would wrap Amber with his free arm. Once she was close, he would close his eyes. He felt bold and out of line-- it mattered little to him now. "Amber...I go across Remnant for weeks or even months at a time. As I do so, I step into the darkness that surrounds humanity and do my best to combat it. To brighten the world. It's one of the few things I am good at- fighting that is. I was never very good in academics, nor do I totally understand social ques and the sort. But still. I live to remove the clouds that darken the skies in hope the world will see a bright sun." With a rapid heart, Ferr took in a deep breath before lowering his vision to meet Amber's. "Forgive me for being so rash. But if you don't wish to return home...I will be taking you with me instead." His eyes and face all expressed his seriousness. The man would close his eyes a second time with a calm mind, waiting for her response. Either she rejected him or accepted it. To option was totally up to her. MADE BY VEL OF GS

She wasn’t sure what she was expecting, but for some reason, Ferr reaching his hand out and taking her own took Amber by surprise. The feeling was comparable to a very gentle current - whether it was heat or electricity, or maybe both, she did not know. "I." She heard him murmur as he took her hand. "I want to live too. I want to live with a great purpose. And I want to live with hope, happiness and a clear mind." She smiled fondly at the response, giggling quietly under her breath as she enjoyed the feeling of their hands together. In her thoughts, memories of home - of her mother and father - echoed.”Momma, what was it like when you and papa met?””It was pretty much what you might expect, dear. Just like in the movies.””Yeah, but was it love?”Laughter, then silence. “Well, maybe not at first, but it got there. I knew I really liked your father when we first met, though.”Louder, male laughter enters the conversation. “Hey, I thought it was love at first sight!””I know you did, Eisen, but you think everything is love at first sight.”Love. W-was she…?She mentally shook herself, trying to exorcise the idea from her mind.Being pulled so close, out of nowhere, was nothing short of unexpected. That considered, Amber laughed playfully as it happened, a shy smirk on her face as Ferr’s free arm wrapped around her. At this point, her heart had begun to pound like the massive ceremonial drums of home, a force so strong she could feel it in her ears. Her brief reminiscence had caused her face to burn and take a reddish hue, and she tried desperately to hide it. "Amber...I go across Remnant for weeks or even months at a time. As I do so, I step into the darkness that surrounds humanity and do my best to combat it. To brighten the world.” She leaned against Ferr as he spoke, her free arm slowly looping around him to keep him close. Her eyes closed.”It's one of the few things I am good at- fighting that is. I was never very good in academics, nor do I totally understand social ques and the sort. But still. I live to remove the clouds that darken the skies in hope the world will see a bright sun." Feeling Ferr lowering his gaze, Amber opened her eyes and looked up into his own, a shy smile on her face. "Forgive me for being so rash. But if you don't wish to return home...I will be taking you with me instead." Ferr added, going quiet and closing his eyes afterward. This was the proverbial spanner in the works. Her thoughts stopped making sense, her heart all but completely exploded. Was he being serious? The idea of traveling Remnant, helping people - it was all she had ever wanted to do. Having him there, protecting her - her protecting him - the two of them fighting together to push back the creatures of darkness. That was all a plus. Amber remained quiet for almost a full minute before releasing Ferr’s hand and moving her other arm around him - embracing the young man tightly. “If you’re really okay with me going with you - if you…really want me tagging along, I…” She answered quietly, trying her hardest to suppress a fit of laughter. “How could I say no to that? I would love to go with you, Ferr! It sounds like it could be a lot of fun.”Retreating her arms quickly, Amber instead looped them around Ferr’s shoulders and pulled herself towards his face. There were a few different outcomes to this, and she couldn’t find it in herself to settle on one. It could be a simple hug, or something more. What would happen if it were just a hug, what if it were something more? This vicious cycle of irrational thought forced her to, unfortunately, leave that decision in Ferr’s hands. “Thank you, Ferr.” She said in a soft tone. “Thank you so much.”Finally, a chance to live. |

The nervousness that was emitting from within Ferr was slowly dying away. Being replaced by a calming wave of reassurance as Amber received and returned his hug. Keeping his eyes closed, Ferr smiled a large grin. It seemed he wasn't too bad at this sort of stuff. It was good to know that Amber was willing to reflect his gestures and aspirations. While they were different, they were similar enough for it to matter. And it mattered a great deal to the man. This woman that stood before him had connected to Ferr the quickest anyone ever has. It was refreshing and filled him with glee. “If you’re really okay with me going with you - if you…really want me tagging along, I… How could I say no to that? I would love to go with you, Ferr! It sounds like it could be a lot of fun.”Fun she said? Ferr laughed a silent laugh. In a way, he supposed it would be fun. He was lucky his ride had seating for two. Or else things would get really cramped. Though it wasn't necessarily a bad thing if they got a little closer in his mind. That being said his mind went silent when Amber took hold both cheeks. They stayed like that for what seemed to be eternity. Ferr could see indecision in the woman's eyes. The indecision was swayed away by the beauty of blue eyes. If he acted now it would set the tone for their future. Or would it be their future? He didn't know at the moment and time. Ferr was not smart or very wise. But he knew one thing. If he advanced in the way his body demanded, in the way his entire being as a man demanded, then she would be tied to him. At least this is what he thought. It made him think of the risks being a Hunter had. At any moment during any mission, no matter how easy it seemed. Ferr could die. The man was not immortal regardless of his strength or power. He could still fall into a worse state than his own father. He glanced at Amber's lips, wanting to feel them against his own. But in this brief moment of though, it was clear. If he kissed her than she would be connected to him more than anyone every has been. But he couldn't do that to her. Not right now. They had just recently met. Though this night provided so much insight into what they could become, Ferr wouldn't allow it to blossom. Not just yet anyway. Perhaps in time. But he couldn't deny what he was feeling. The warm feeling of love. It reminded him of something his father had told him long ago. Brushing aside Amber's hair and leaning in Ferr would kiss her forehead. It was light but at the same time, he felt he had just placed a weight onto her. Looking back at her, Ferr smiled. "My father once told me that he met my mother on the field of combat as rivals. The most powerful man and the strongest woman. They respected each other. And then they began to love each other. Amber...I respect you alot right now."

If only she had the words to describe what happened next. Were she to pick anything, it’d be “perfect”. Sure, deep down there was a part of her - that “live in the moment” part of her - that would have liked to just go ahead and kiss him, but his response to the situation couldn’t have been better. His lips against her forehead, Amber felt the world around them stand completely still. This was one of the many things she had wanted, for as long as she could remember - respect. He didn’t take advantage of her, he didn’t reject her. Instead, it was almost as if they had met in the middle - that they had compromised."My father once told me that he met my mother on the field of combat as rivals. The most powerful man and the strongest woman. They respected each other. And then they began to love each other. Amber...I respect you alot right now." He said to her, and Amber - perhaps naively - believed every single word of it. Respect was an infant concept to her. Growing up, she was always taught to respect the wishes of others, but often times it seemed like she was never respected in return. Now she was, and without asking for it. Her face reddened as she tried to think of a way to respond, a pins-and-needles feeling throughout her body as the very fiber of her soul reacted.Beet red, Amber smiled, drawing back her left hand to caress his face. “I respect you a lot too, Ferr.” She responded bashfully. “I look forward to seeing the world, to helping people - and I look forward to doing that all with you.” Easing herself down to her feet, Amber kept the smile on her face as she looked up to Ferr. She felt like it might’ve been getting late, but then again the night felt very young. Maybe, if he was up for it, they could wander around the Academy and he could give her a little tour. After all, this was the first time she had ever been there. On top of that, spending a little more time with one another meant the perfect opportunity to get to know each other more. She had worked out a list of things to ask him - her mind sorting through boring reiterations of the same question. The more her thoughts were sorted out, the more Amber became curious as to whether there were things about her that Ferr wanted to know. Both her hands retreated behind her back as her smile evolved into a slight grin. “Say, Ferr? If you’re feeling up for it, would you mind showing me around the Academy?” She asked, almost feeling embarrassed by the request. “It’s my first time at Vytal, and I thought it’d be a good chance for us to talk a little more. If we’re going to travel together and all that, I feel like it’s…I dunno, important?”Amber paused for a moment, her eyes shifting between the moon and Ferr several times before she nodded. “Yeah, important that we took the time to get to one another a little more.” She finished, standing tall and proud. “Okay, maybe I just wanna hang out a little longer. Is that alright?” |

The redness in Ferr's face was beginning to become a more regular feature. If the two of them had interactions like this too often than Ferr was going to have blood problems. At the simple touch of Amber's hands Ferr's body responded. Perhaps this was a destined meeting? Ferr smiled at every word she said. Especially when Amber said she wanted to continue the hanging out with Ferr. "So you want a tour of the campus? Students shouldn't be able to be on the grounds at night. But then again, I am Alumni. And you are a Princess." A little and mischievous smile grow on Ferr's lips. Out of character maybe. But this was a very out of character night for him. With a nod Ferr picked up his water bottle and gestured for Amber to follow him. The man placed his garbage in a blue bin before walking towards a pair of double doors. They'd lead out to a pair of stairs leading down to a pathway outside. Fresh air would do them both a great service for the moment. The night seemed like a cool and bright one. Perfect for reinvigorating the knight. "First would you like to see a secret little spot? We found a number of locations best suited for any occasion. My class I mean. Regarding Ferr’s facial expressions with a smile, it was clear that her ambition to wander out into the night was shared - or at least it seemed that way. "So you want a tour of the campus? Students shouldn't be able to be on the grounds at night. But then again, I am Alumni. And you are a Princess." The mischievous smile on the young man’s face was met by one of her own, her eyes - very slightly - squinting as the muscles forming the smile pushed up against those in the rest of her face. What an interesting night thus far. As he motioned for her to follow, Amber did so without a second thought. She trailed behind for a little while, her attention focused on the small details of the Academy as they both wandered to a pair of large doors that led outside. Once they were out in the open, a bit of a bounce urged its way into her steps, and she let out a playful laugh as she caught up to Ferr, only to loop her arm around his. "First would you like to see a secret little spot?” She paused for a moment, thinking about it as Ferr continuef explaining. ”We found a number of locations best suited for any occasion. My class I mean. Should still be there unless they had construction done since I've been gone." Amber looked up at Ferr, shyly at first, before nodding and squeezing gently on his arm. ”I think that sounds like a lot of fun!” She responded with a smile. ”What kind of secret spot is it, anyway? There was a part of her that grew nervous that this secret place could be really high, in which case she might have a bit of an issue. She always hated heights, despite tolerating them from time to time. God, anything but heights. ”Anyway, I’m ready when you are!” She giggled. ”Lead the way!” |

The excitement Amber was resonating was pretty impressive to Ferr. A hope, skip, and practically a jump, and Amber was locking arms with Ferr. Any more and the woman might have been dragging him if she knew the way already. Ferr thanked god she didn't. ”I think that sounds like a lot of fun! What kind of secret spot is it, anyway?" Ferr guided her down the stone path for around a minute. As he did, Ferr looked around the tops of the buildings. He looked for a specific statue on one of the roofs to jog his memory. It had been a few years. Plus so much has happened in that time. It was hard to remember everything. "Well this one, the closest, will show us a good view of the housing district. It is line up in such a way that the buildings make a little frame. All the houses and buildings look like a sea of lights in an pound of green and darkness. It is kinda peaceful." The sight of a particular gargoyle did do the trick however. Seeing the winged statue made Ferr take a good grip onto Amber as he moved them towards the side of the new building and pointed to a section of the wall. Along a vertical line, the ledges beneath the windows formed what resembled a ladder one could climb. Along the way, a vine had grow over a good portion of the wall. Small flowers blossomed onto it. The kind nobody knew the name to but they still liked to see. Ferr was more focused on where the vine reached as it crept around the top of the edge of the roof. Pointing up to the roof, Ferr said, "It is right up there. About five stories. A really quick climb and it should be all good. No?" The man smiled to Amber for a moment before his lips flattened. "You know how to climb right? Want a back-ride?" He asked before cracking his knuckled and loosening his knees. " MADE BY VEL OF GS

He didn’t refuse her arm - a small fact that kept the already cheeky smirk front and center on Amber’s face.Mostly in silence, Amber followed Ferr’s lead as they wandered through the campus. The sounds of their footsteps, as light as they might’ve tried to be with such, clicked softly against the stone walkway. Vytal was everything she had ever dreamed of, and so - soooooo - much more. Every so often, she’d shoot Ferr a quick glance before her gaze went back go taking in the beauty that was Vytal Island. Part of her wondered what was going through his mind, and for a moment she entertained the idea of inquiring such.As Ferr scanned the rooftops for something unseen, Amber was busy gazing out towards the skyline and romanticizing unwritten tales of her travels. She couldn’t remember the last time she was this overwhelmingly excited, but resolved to keep herself under control. The last thing Amber wanted to do was do something - no matter how small - to ruin the evening. Again she glanced back at Ferr, wondering what exactly it was that the young man was looking for. This time, her eyes stayed on him a little longer than she intended, her mind slipping away to daydreams - the likes of which she’d rather not share. This was probably why her father had been so strict with the kind of young men he decided she could be around. That said, she had never been so attracted to another person before - no matter how hard her father might have tried to make otherwise. "Well this one, the closest, will show us a good view of the housing district. It is line up in such a way that the buildings make a little frame. All the houses and buildings look like a sea of lights in an pound of green and darkness. It is kinda peaceful."The sound of Ferr’s voice snapped her out of her trance almost instantly, and she visibly shook her head - both out of surprise and trying to literally shake the daydream away. The feeling of him moving her along, his grip on her adjusted, made her stomach and heart flutter. Her eyes caught the features of the wall before them - paying particular attention to the flowers. It was pretty high, though, and the thought of climbing had caused an unwelcome knot to form in her gut. Odd how she could fight the Taijitu Nagara at its height, but the thought of climbing a building was so debilitating."It is right up there. About five stories. A really quick climb and it should be all good. No?" He said with a smile. With a smile, Amber nodded confidently, then looked back up towards the rooftop. "You know how to climb right? Want a back-ride?" He added. Amber was a little put off by the question. Did he think she was a fool? The very thought made her heart sink a little - but enough to be effective. “I…” She let out an embarrassed sigh, looking down as a dispirited expression replaced her smile. “I dunno. I just don’t like heights very much, is all.” Amber did her best to avoid looking back at him, out of fear of being judged or something.“If you don’t mind helping me up…I’d…appreciate it…” She added, glancing back up to the rooftops. With her right hand, she brushed a bit of hair behind her hear - similar to how she had while they were hanging out by the window. Red faced, Amber finally urged herself to look at the Huntsman at her side. “Only if you want, though.” |

Ferr had been used to climbing this and a number of other obstacles. To him the task was a simple and easy one. One hand before the other and keep going. If you fell; you'd get have to get back up. But the look on Amber's face projected a negative response to this proposition. As she looked distort towards the ground, she said “I dunno. I just don’t like heights very much, is all.” It was understand able, truly it was. Ferr remembered his childhood and the first time he learned how to climb. His mother was whipping his bottom every time he fell down or stopped climbing. Her whip stung like bees and made the boy cry and made his tears flow like a river. Ferr could remember the blood and cuts on his hands as splinters dug into his palms and his knuckles were white with a weak grip. All the while his grandfather cooking morning eggs and meat in the sun light six feet away from the scene. It was cruel but funny at the same time. Hitting a boy because he couldn't climb up a ten foot tree but he was too weak from the beatings. A cycle really. But after enough motivation Ferr finally climbed the tree. And stayed there for a few hours. In a way, he too had a fear of heights. "If you don’t mind helping me up…I’d…appreciate it…" Ferr looked to the woman and nodded with a sympathetic smile. "Sure Amber. No problem. And I understand if you fear climbing or heights. It makes you human to have one or two. Only monsters fear nothing." With that, Ferr released Amber from his grasp and walked behind her. "Whatever you do, do not be too afraid. You trust me?" Perhaps this will be the precourser to their travels. This, a test of faith, will place what kind of troubles or ease they will face in the days to come. MADE BY VEL OF GS
