The wild faunus had been at school for a little longer than a week. After her intense experience having snuck onto Ferr's ship in order to arrive in Setek in time to help fight that gigantic creature, she was happy to spend some time in the Library at school learning more about the world in which she'd been thrust. She'd never ridden in an airship before, she'd never seen so much technology, or even really had an idea of what it all was. She was briefly taught how to work the consoles and scroll, but she was still learning stuff as she went.
She did seem to be a natural though, taking pretty easily to the computer, and already typing with relative quickness. All she had to do was commit to memory the location of the keys, and let her already unusually high dexterity take over from there. It wasn't long before she had an entire network of information to browse, and plenty of time to spend alone doing so. The first thing she'd began studying was the Princess, and what exactly that role meant from a societal standpoint. Princesses were well above the common person. They were more than just famous, they were important. They had incredible power, not from a battle perspective, but from a political one. If a tribe leader were important, a princess was super, mega, ultra important.
"So this is what I helped save," she said, wishing she'd been able to do more. Maybe she was wrong to let her take part in the fight? She could have grabbed her and sped away to completely keep her out of danger. Who knows? But it worked out. Still, she couldn't help but feel guilty about it.
Her next topic of study was the kingdoms themselves. She knew the names, but she had no clue what they each represented. Setek was very different from Vytal, so she imagined the other kingdoms were varied as well. She was right, and spent the better part of an hour looking at the information on the kingdoms.
She hadn't sat still like this for some time, and was starting to get a bit antsy, but at the same time she was incredibly curious about what else this world had to look up. She was basically oblivious to her surroundings, which never happened. She had never truly experienced an escape like this one. Allowing her focus to be directed solely in one direction. Not splitting it for anything. It was an alien feeling for her, one that, if she'd recognized, would have scared her quite a bit. Instead though, she remained blissfully unaware of her lack of peripheral awareness and maintained her tunnel vision as she learned more about the world that had been separate from her own.

The library. As per usual, it was mostly barren save for people here either for leisure or last minute cramming...for once Chrohn was actually here for the former, rather than the latter.
Doot doot, books for astronomy, here I come, he thought quietly as he sifted through various books. It was quiet, and the almost silence made the search enjoyable. "Just lookin' for more stuff about the sky. I don't want stuff about the people who looked at the sky, gaaah. They are so boring, but their discoveries aren't." His searching continued in this manner of quiet commentary as he sifted through shelves upon shelves of books, until he thought he saw a familiar face.
"She looks...familiar!" He muttered as he subconsciously found himself slowly shuffling over towards the Cat's general direction. "Hey, you were at Setek, weren't you?" Chrohn said, still somewhat keeping his distance. Making friends was important, but it was still tough over coming that fear of new people.

Lily almost jumped out of her skin when Crohn showed up out of the blue. She had, however, literally jumped about twelve feet up into the air, drawing stares from the other students, and annoyed glances from the librarians. How had he snuck up on her? She looked around the room. She'd felt a sense of solitary peace the entire time she'd been studying, but realized that there were actually several other people present. Had she truly let her guard down that much in the short time she'd been to Vytal? She looked abashed, and understanding enough about social interaction at this point, she knew that the boy that approached her was expecting her to say something.
"Uhh... Sorry, about the jump. You surprised me a bit is all. I uhh, I'm not used to people coming up and talking to me like that." It was a half truth. She didn't feel any need to explain herself fully, as that would require far too much exposition, and she didn't feel like sharing her history with every random person that wanted to speak. "Uhh, well, yeah I was at Setek. Twice actually, once on my way to Vytal, though I stayed outside of the town walls that time. I'm guessing you're talking about this recent one? I uhh... I wasn't really supposed to be there. But yeah, I went. You were there too right? It uhm, I'm glad that there were other people there. I couldn't have fought that giant grimm alone, many other people would have died before I'd been able to force it into a retreat by myself." She wondered if she truly could have done so. Her aura levels never dropped to dangerous levels, but the snake hardly seemed to pay her any mind as she clawed her way up it's neck. She wasn't even sure that the shattered armor that she left in her wake had done anything to help the others. If anything, the best tactic would have been to launch herself repeatedly at the snake as she did with her very first strike against it. That was the one that seemed to do the most damage, even if it had been draining on her Aura.
"I'm a bit new here, I uhh... I guess I'm gonna get in trouble. I was told not to go, but snuck on board one person's ship and rode there on my own." She bit her tongue after that, not wanting to bore the guy with too much needless information.
"Why have you come to visit me? Are you the one they've sent to punish me?"

It wasn't that she was boring, but it was more so that she spoke in such a way that Chrohn found it hard to comprehend everything that his eyes started to glaze over. He understood what she said, but he didn't understand why she wasn't allowed to go to Setek, danger aside. Some students had actually done worse than what the girl had apparently done, and only got off with some lecturing and community work. And it was here that his mind kind of ran in different directions until the girl had asked her last two questions.
"Uh...I'm not really into punishment stuff, and to be honest, I didn't come here to see you specifically. You just happened to be here while I was looking up some books on astronomy." It was then that he took notice of the girl's computer screen. I wonder why she's looking into the kingdoms; maybe she's got an essay for it or something. Oh yeah, the giant snake. "Yeah, the snake was something that would've required a group effort regardless of who was fighting it. It was simply too big for any one person to even think of solo'ing it. But you did good out there from what I could tell." It wasn't really flirting, but Chrohn didn't really know how to talk to girls or strangers, so the two put together was even worse for him. So compliments were the best way to break the ice.

Lily nodded, she saw the truth in his words and said "Yes. That snake would have been difficult for any of us alone. There are stories where I'm from of great warriors of days long past that took down Grimm even greater than that, but after that fight I'm inclined to believe that they are in fact just stories." She thought to herself how grand it might be if she were able to be so strong, but she could tell that the journey ahead of her was a very, very long one.
She was glad that he wasn't there to enact a punishment on her. She had been expecting it ever since she'd defied the teacher's wishes to go to Setek, but so far nothing had come of her defiance. She sighed, looking around the room as if she would find something to talk about, finally, she settled on something he had said. "What is this 'astronomy'? I've not heard that word before."
She did love the stars, and she would be a natural student of Astronomy had she known that it was a field, but like so many other things in the civilized world, she didn't even know that she didn't know about them. There was a lot to learn out here. It would be a journey that never ended should she embark on it now. Sometimes she wondered if this pursuit of knowledge was a waste. If it would take away time from her training and advancement as a warrior, but the benefit from learning how to exist in the outside world and knowing a wider variety of information could help her in some obvious, and less obvious ways in the future.
If another girl might have taken Chrohn's compliments as flirtatious, Lily did not. She really didn't understand the whole concept of romance, so anything along those lines passed straight over her head. She simply thought that his speech was genuine and friendly. She responded in kind.
"By the way, your attacks in the fight were, well, pretty impressive by the way. I think that last one you did was more effective than any single attack that I could have managed. i'm glad you were there."

It was weird, to Chrohn at least. Someone hadn't heard of astronomy? It was here that he shrugged mentally, he was sure there were many things that existed that he had no idea of, or that he didn't know the name of, so it probably wasn't too uncommon. And it was here that he was about to explain what "Astronomy" was before Lily, the girl whose name he didn't know, had moved on to complimenting his final blow on the beast.
Here he chuckled with a sheepish grin and said, "While that's nice and all, I was only able to do what I did because of two things: The proper setup, with my height and such, along with the beast being distracted, and straight up, pure, unadulterated luck. Though I'm glad my one major effort of attack was appreciated." His eyes glazed over as he started thinking, staring into space as he did so. What was I forgetting? I was talking about something else....OH RIGHT! Astronomy.
"So, I was gonna tell you something before I got side tracked. What I was gonna say is Astronomy, the reason I initially came here, is the study of the stars and their related studies in the night sky. So like, the constellations and Asterisms that most people find in the night sky that have names. That is roughly what astronomy is. Some just like to look at the stars, while I like writing stuff down and tracking specific parts of the night sky." This description of his was easily described as excitable to say the very least. It was easily one of Chrohn's most favorite things in this present world, aside from the girl that lay comatose and his equipment that was ready for battle within the confines of his room.
"So, uh....what were you here for, aside from apparently hiding from punishment?"

Not knowing the mechanism of Chrohn's weapon, she didn't truly believe his success in battle to be one bourne of luck. That said, she held her tongue anyway. If he wanted to be self deprecating that was his business. She listened as he discussed astronomy. She had only ever heard it called star gazing, and had never heard anything quite as technical as he was explaining it to be. She tapped on her scroll occasionally, keeping notes of technical terms to look up later such as "Asterism" so that she wouldn't have to side track him again with more questions before he was finished. Once he was done, she smiled. "I love that about this place. Anything you want to know, you can learn. Well, at least I've not found any barriers to self-education yet. I'm sure I'll figure out the limits of this library place one day."
Her speech was a little absentminded. She'd been hard at work studying society and other key facets of civilization. Which is why she delayed a little bit in telling him exactly what she'd been looking up.
"I uhh, well, I figured I should know more about the world I'm living in. A little while ago I was looking up what exactly princesses are, and how one should behave in their presence. Just now, I was looking into the different kingdoms in the world, and the differences between them. It's really interesting to read about all of this stuff. I wasn't here to dodge punishment, I was here because I wanted to learn stuff, just as you are here to learn astronomy."
She sighed a bit wistfully, saying "I still have so much to learn, this is a really big world, and the parts of it I've experienced are so small compared to what's really out there." The thought of how far she'd already traveled from her home, which she'd only just learned to point to on a map, was incredible to her. She got goosebumps just thinking about it, and the immense-ness of the world she had been missing out on for so very long.

Quietly, Chrohn listened as the cat spoke. It was interesting listening to others, but it was easy to assume that this derived from Chrohn's preference to avoid talking if at all possible. And throughout all of what the girl said, the fellow stargazer connected the most with what she had started with and what she had ended with. Though at the mention of the princess, he was the owner of a brief flicker of anger for only a quick moment. Self education was a wonderful thing, but it was also a hard beast to maintain as it was near impossible for one to know what all was needed to know in order to proceed until they started to hit roadblocks. However, the last bit of her words, he connected with equally as so, seeing as it was always fun and interesting to expand one's limits and broaden their horizons.
"Yeah...", he started, "with that last part. No one, regardless of how smart or studious they are or have the potential to be, will ever be able to learn everything about the world. The world's always expanding, not literally mind you. I mean more in terms of....like, advancements. For example, just two general things that are always advancing due to the desire to live in a better world: culture and the general applications of sciences. But I feel another reason why no one will be able to learn everything is because we are too busy catching up on the past to get to the present, that by the time we get to the present, the present is already in the future." It was a long winded statement, that delved into one of Chrohn's few moments of thoughtful insight. Now to him, it had made sense, but he wasn't really sure if the cat managed to catch all of that. If she didn't, it didn't really matter; not that her opinion didn't matter, but because moreso that Chrohn was simply spewing words out of his mouth, and not really thinking about where this was heading.

Lily thought of that for a moment, trying to figure out exactly what he had meant. "Well, I dunno if you ever could fully catch up on the past." She said gesturing to all of the books surrounding them.
"There seems to be more here than you might be able to learn in a life time. Choosing which threads of knowledge to pursue is the tricky part. I really don't know, and so far have kinda been going at random." She didn't notice herself shorten "kind of" to kinda, perhaps the vernacular of the students was beginning to rub off on her, and her speech patterns were getting a bit more relaxed. "All I really want to do for now, is figure out the jarring gaps in knowledge that..." she paused, if she continued with that thought out loud, it would probably give away a lot about her. So far, she'd only shared that with Aegle, and she barely knew this boy.
"I mean, well, I'm just trying to learn more about what I don't know, so I can figure out what I need to learn. If that makes sense?" She tried to figure out a better way of saying it, puzzling it out in her mind to figure out how to clarify.
"Like, for instance astronomy. I had no idea that I didn't know anything about it until you told me that word. Now, I'll gladly learn much, much more about it, because I love the stars, and would love to see what people smarter than I have to say about them."
She hoped that would be a better way of getting her point across. "There are lots of other things I'm interested in learning about, I just have to figure out what they are first."

Once more he listened to the cat as she went on speaking, and Chrohn agreed with her. There was too much for one person to try to learn in a single lifetime. It was sad, but true. Even if one spent their entire life dedicated to the knowledge of the of the world, but the world would never stop for the scholar, even if the scholar did.
Once the girl was finished, and Chrohn was sure of it, he nodded and said with a warm enthusiasm," Yeah, it's good to find what you like, actually it's wonderful to find what you like, but I think that journey of coming across it yourself and deciding by yourself that it's worth liking makes it all the more fun. However, that takes some time, experimenting and branching out, which people aren't terribly fond of doing. It's regrettable, as people could always expand some more than they already have, but it's their choice not to, so we just have to take what they have and move on..." He trailed off, not to give emphasis on the phrase, but rather because he lost his train of thought.
I hate it when that happens, I actually have something worth saying, something worth value, and then I lose it. Hopefully the girl found one of his rare philosophical spewings helpful, if not, it wasn't the end of the world.
