"Nah…" Aegle replied around a mouthful of half-masticated chicken, "They don't really have spicy stuff in the cafeteria. Don't really know why…" The idea that the menu might be generalized in order to appeal to the broadest spectrum of palettes had never occurred to Aegle.
As Lily began describing her life in the wilds, Aegle assumed a state of quiet and stillness which was seldom seen from the orange haired girl. Her boisterous personality and irrepressible energy apparently played second fiddle to her inherent curiosity. Whether she could properly comprehend or articulate the things that struck her fancy was another question entirely, but fortunately Lily's explanation required precious little input from the diminutive huntress. She did try to imagine the world which her friend was describing but, having lived a very sheltered life, it was hard for Aegle to envision a world of such frequent hardship and difficulty. Her life, overshadowed by life changing illness as it was, had not been an easy one by Legion standards. But she had always been surrounded by family who were as supportive as they were eclectic, and there was no escaping the fact that her quality of life would have been far worse had she not had access to Legion's legendary medical technologies. In the grand scheme of things, Aegle had been exceptionally fortunate, at least when compared to others who, while maybe not afflicted by some sort of debilitating disease, weren't surrounded by love ones or protected by one of the world's most powerful armies. Ideas such as slavery and daily hardship were foreign to Aegle. Aegle spent a few moments in silence once Lily was done speaking, her expression once again thoughtful with almost comic intensity. She finished up the last of her second supper as she thought, but didn't really seem to taste any of it, too busy trying to picture everything that had just been described to her. "I guess I didn’t know it was so tough out there." She remarked finally, as she refocused her emerald eyes on Lily. There was a expression on her face which was difficult to describe, wholly separate from how she had looked at Lily when they first met. Neither enthusiastic interest or friendly openness, Aegle instead wore of a look which might have been protracted curiosity, unaffected by any of Aegle's usual innocence. Instead, her expression seemed to convey the realization that she really didn't understand the creature she was talking to. It not only identified Lily as something different from what Aegle was used to, but different in such a way that she didn't really know how to judge her. "Sounds like ya gotta be real strong to make it out there." The small girl finally said, before setting her food aside and springing lightly back to her feet with another hissing, mechanical whir. From the way she said it, it was evident that this one conclusion was also the sole conclusion Aegle's limited faculties had managed to arrive at, given the constrained timespan allotted. Her smile rapidly resurfaced however, and she moved back to the bag on the table. "How'd ya like it?" She asked, with a nod at Lily's food, as she reached back into the brown bag and retrieved a small triangle of folded pastry. Snapping the samosa in half, she offered the larger portion to Lily, "You're a little red, so I'm guessin' that was probably hot enough, huh?"

Lily, oddly enough, felt more vulnerable now in this orange haired girl's room than she had in the past year. She held an arm while Aegle sat silently, wondering what was going through the girl's head. She was wearing an expression that she hadn't seen on Aegle's face up until that point, and she didn't know what to make of it. Finally, Aegle spoke.
"I guess I didn’t know it was so tough out there."
The way that Aegle was looking at her was different now. Gone was the gleeful acceptance. The look she was getting now was almost the direct opposite of the first time they'd met. It made Lily a little sad, she had like the way Aegle seemed to look at Lily the same as she looked at everyone else, but it made sense. She wasn't the same as everyone else, so of course once people really knew her it would only be logical for them to look at her differently. She hugged an arm, and nodded. "Y-Yeah, it's uhh... You don't just need strength. Even the strong die all the time out there. You need to be lucky. I've seen people much more powerful than me fall. I'm just luckier than most, and faster than most. So I survived. Not everyone can just run away when they our hopelessly outmatched in the same way that I can." She said, almost feeling guilty. She didn't really have any real business surviving when so many others fell, but she did, and she would do the best to make the most of it.
She felt immense relief when Aegle changed the subject again. As her friend's smile returned, Lily's face relaxed. She hadn't realized, but her brow had been furrowed in worry. Some part of her feared that she'd not get to see her friend smile like that again, but she felt silly for having thought it at all now.
"The food was really yummy, I've never tasted anything like it in my life! I'd love to have more some time," she accepted the half of the stuffed, fried food, and gave it a quick sniff. This too was unlike anything she'd tasted before.
Before taking her first bite of it, she paused and said "By the way, I've been curious..." Her ears were twitching slightly, tuned in to the sound of the whirring and hissing. "What is that noise when you move? So far I've not met any other students that do that."
She had noticed it when they first met, but attributed it to her being a kingdom dweller. However, after none of the other kingdom dwellers made similar sounds, she had grown more and more curious.

Aegle regarded her friend with an open grin, the very same she had greeted the small faunus with on the day they'd met. Clearly she was quite happy to have introduced someone to the majesty of curry. "I'll give ya the number." She said happily, not considering that Lily likely lacked the scroll necessary to make use of the restaurant's number. As she crammed the remaining couple of bites into her mouth, she produced her scroll once more. Clumsily pulling it open, she ran her thumbs imprecisely across the clear screen as she traipsed idly in place. Her success in locating what she was looking for coincided nearly perfectly with Lily's second question, the one about the noises her body made. "Noise when I..?" She asked, her smile never faltering but her hands suddenly quite still. For a moment, Aegle's gaze grew quizzical and distant, and it seemed as though she would not say anymore. Then her shoulder sagged imperceptibly and the movement was accompanied by a quiet mechanical whine. Hearing the desolate note, recognition and understanding flashed across the orange haired girl's face and her grin redoubled with the joy of overcoming her own confusion. "Oooooh~" Aegle cooed liltingly, as she rolled her shoulder noisily, filling the small apartment with noise of a decidedly inorganic nature. "Y'mean those noises." Lowering her forgotten scroll, Aegle regarded Lily with a puppy-dog smile as she reached up and grabbed at the neck of her hoodie. "S'just my brace." She explained, as though that was all the explanation necessary, while she tugged open the neck of her hoodie and revealed a couple of straps which seemed to cross her chest beneath the garment. Then, as if she assumed her explanation had been sufficient, despite providing an answer apt to raise even more questions, Aegle lowered her eyes and resumed searching through her scroll's contacts list. "I guess I'm so used to hearin' it that I don't hear it anymore." She remarked idly, as she used both hands to navigate her scroll's glowing screen. "Usually I don't let it run so loud, but I got done trainin' and..." Shrugging, which was a remarkable accomplishment given the unusual set of her shoulders, Aegle glanced back up at Lily, "I dunno, guess I never turned it back down."

Lily nodded, taking down the number and feeling a bit more at ease. Her friend was right back to normal, almost as if she wasn't sitting across from an uncivilized savage from the wilderness. She took out the scroll that had been provided to her, and fumbled with the settings. The only numbers in her scroll were those of the four hunters and huntresses that'd given her the scroll. They'd taught her how to add a number, but she took a while to remember exactly how it worked. She fumbled for a minute while Aegle continued to talk, but eventually got it figured out. With the scroll primed and ready to receive the number, she felt a bit accomplished. She was still a novice when it came to technologies like that one.
When Aegle tugged open the neck of her hoodie, Lily got up and went to get a closer look. She sniffed, and smelled sweat. Not too much, but proof that the girl had in fact been training. Curiously, she reached out and touched the strap. She followed the outline in the hoodie and started poking and prodding at different spots where it seemed like the straps would be connected. She could feel through the fabric of the hoodie that there were hard metal segments that vibrated to the touch. "Oooh, that's neat." She said following the feeling of the brace down her arm. Whether or not Aegle would be upset by this invasion of privacy was something Lily hadn't really considered. Perhaps she should have, but she neither knew the function of the brace, nor did she know much about personal space.
"What does this 'brace' do? Is it to help you train? We should train together sometime, I haven't really seen the fighting styles of kingdom dwellers up close yet, but it'll be fun to try it out and see what you guys are capable of." She said at a mile a minute, an innocent grin on her face as her hand rested absentmindedly on Aegle's left arm. She was fascinated by the strange device, her mind, which was despite it's lack of actual learning pretty above average as far as intellectual potential goes, was puzzling over it's possible function and how it might have been constructed. Knowing what little she did though, she was unable to puzzle out how the kingdoms might have constructed such a device.
She thought about asking for one, but stopped herself. If she had some money or resources, she may have, but she still felt like a pariah when it came to physical possessions. She could carry everything she owned on her back fairly easily, which suited her previous lifestyle quite well, but living here in the city she may want to think about actually acquiring some things, such as other sets of clothing and... well, what did normal people acquire? She looked around Aegle's room and saw the various clothes and mementos scattered about. She would apparently need a lot more clothing.

Aegle gave no indication that she was especially bothered by Lily's probing, and even assisted in the faunus girl's investigation with a couple of discrete movements to better guide her fingers along the concealed device. She was even a bit amused by it, if her guarded grin was any indication. While it would be wrong to say that she didn't care what people thought of the brace, she'd certainly grown out of the initial self-consciousness which the device had initially instilled in her. Since it's creation, it had become a part of her, as familiar and comfortable as a well worn pair of shoes. She did make efforts to conceal it, but those efforts weren't so much focused on hiding the brace as they were hiding the things the brace failed to alleviate. Things such as her slouch, the hunch in her one shoulder, and set of her feet which, even after seven years, remained slightly pigeon-toed. "It kinda is for trainin', I guess." Aegle allowed, still wearing a grin which was slightly more restrained than usual. For as little as discussing the brace bothered her, she was much more conscious of other aspects of her body which were evident from the kind of tactile investigation which Lily was performing. Her baggy fashion sense went a long way towards ameliorating her crooked build and remarkable lack of body mass, but did little to conceal either fact to the touch. And while she was neither ashamed nor embarrassed by the brace, her lack of muscle certainly did trouble Aegle. It was actually one of the few things which caused her any considerable discomfort, along side her incredibly light weight. "Though I usually turn it down to train."
Gently drawing away from Lily's touch, Aegle hooked one scarred thumb into the cuff of her opposite sleeve, and yanked the orange fabric a little ways up her forearm. Doing so exposed a second, padded cuff beneath the layer of orange fabric, one which encircled her arm just before the joint of her wrist. The cuff, a polished metal encircling a thin leather pad, lay snugly atop the bandage wraps that covered Aegle's hands, and which extended to the middle of where her flexor pollicus muscle should have been. "I train alone." Aegle told the faunus girl, "But I wouldn't mind sparring a little. It would be nice to see what a wilder can do, too." She yanked her sleeve indelicately back into place, then pulled both hands into tight fists that caused the bandages joints to pop loudly. "I don't got much of a style though..." Aegle continued, as she reached up with one hand and rubbed her crooked shoulder, "And I ain't much to judge other huntsman by." She uncurled her fists, to the quiet protest of even more popping from her bandaged joints. "Most huntsman use weapons..." She explained as her green gaze moved from the feline faunus to her hands. Then, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, she began massaging her knuckles through the cloth that covers them. "Swords and axes and hammers and stuff." Changing hands, Aegle paid particular attention to the knuckles on her index and middle fingers, both of which were noticeably thicker than the others, even through the wrappings. "I tried swords for a while, but never really got the hang of it." Aegle glanced at Lily and shrugged mildly, before quietly adding, "My grip was never strong enough." While her explanation was technically accurate, it failed to convey the exact degree of her deficiency, and wholly left out the months upon months she'd spent trying to overcome it. Next, the orange haired girl shook both hands out, and lifted her attention once again. Even now, if one paid close attention to Aegle's hands, it was clear they lacked even the rudimentary strength required to wield a weapon of nominal size. "So I mostly just punch things." Interestingly enough, she never did get around to telling Lily what her brace was for. In fact, entirely unintentionally, she had changed the subject.

Lily's hand recoiled slightly as Aegle pulled up her sleeve and showed just how frail her arm was underneath of it. She was horrified. Not at the sight of Aegle, but at the thought of how hard such a deformity must have been to live with. It clicked pretty quickly, even without Aegle's direct explanation, that the metal suit she wore was to make up for the lack of physical ability, she understood that with a body like hers, it would be difficult to directly fight.
Lily instinctively wrapped her new friend up in a hug, she squeezed tight and held her there wordlessly for a moment. Then, realizing what she'd done, she let go and jumped back slightly, her face red and her ears flat. "S-Sorry," She said sighing. "It's weird, but I had this idea in my head that people in the Kingdoms didn't know what it was to have it rough in their lives... I guess I can see how dumb that thought was now."
She decided then, that she would do everything she could to learn how to help her friend. She knew that the aura could be used to heal others, and while she doubted there was actually anything that could be done for her friend through application of that, she decided that she would learn how to use her aura in that manner next. It was unlikely to say the least, but it was all Lily knew how to do. She was used to solving all of her problems on her own, and couldn't quite grasp that some things other than death might be final. Deciding to shift the conversation away from her awkward hug, she held a hand up and said "I am also not noe who relies on weapons for combat." As she did, the retractable claws in her hand extended. Her aura began to glow, lighting her body with brilliant white light. The light of her aura always had an effect on people that could be described as hope. It would wash over others and leave the impression that all would be well, that everything would be fine in the end. "If you want to spar some time, I'm more than happy to oblige. I'm not really used to fighting other people though." She felt a little rebuffed that her friend had turned down her offer for traditional training, but every person had their own way of doing things, and it's not like her and Aegle were actually close yet. They had only known each other for a short while after all.
Lily had never seen somebody like Aegle before. It shook her world view pretty harshly. Where she was from, people like Aegle didn't exist, because they were simply discarded at birth, or whenever their weakness manifested. If you are not useful to the tribe, you are dead weight, and therefore a liability. That was the law she had known before, and that was all she could think about in this moment. If not for the kingdoms, this wonderful girl might never have had the chance to live and fight. Instead though, she was here, learning how to be a huntress. Learning how to use her skills to take on the world and show everybody that she isn't weak. She had nothing but respect for that. While she had the opportunity, she studied every facet of Aegle's hands and arms visible. There was a good lesson to learn here, about the mercy of the kingdoms. One that filled Lily with resolve anew to fight for her new home. To die for it, if need be. This was new. She had never once in her life considered something might be worth dying for.
She wanted to thank Aegle, for showing her the true nature of her body, but didn't know for sure how to do so. She held her tongue, desperately trying to find something to say. There were a million thoughts racing through her head, but in the end all she managed to get out was a meek "So, what now?"

While it was hard to deny that Aegle had led an atypical life, it was no stretch to say she'd lived a simple life as well. For all the negatives and hurdles set before her, her's had at least been a linear existence, wherein she was forever pushing ahead. Such a life, straight forward as it was, did not leave much opportunity for surprises, and what few surprises it did contain could usually be plowed through with the same direct abandon with which Aegle managed the rest of her existence. For the most part, her methodology had served her well. However it was by no means perfect. For one thing, when ever events conspired to both genuinely surprise Aegle, as well as preclude a straight forward solution, the young girl was often left wholly stumped as of how to react. Which is much how things turned out when Lily moved in to give Aegle a hug.
Now Aegle was not, as a rule, opposed to hugs; She was actually known to hug her family members on occasion. Neither was she bothered by invasions of her personal space the way other girls her age tended to be, as there was nothing quite like numerous prolonged stays in the hospital to break down all sense of modesty and privacy. She wasn't even particularly defensive of people being too close to her, having yet to develop the huntsman's covetous regard for personal security. What Aegle did have, however, was an acute awareness of how her body felt to the touch. It was all sharp angles and jabbing protrusions, a landscape of taught skin, crooked bones, and gaunt shallows where muscle should have been. A cousin had once commented that hugging Aegle was like hugging a skeleton that had lost all its flesh, and it was a comparison that even Aegle appreciated as rather apt. So while she didn't especially mind hugs, not mind being close to strangers, nor even being in intimate contact with them, she rather preferred to be the one doing the hugging.
Thus, when Lily caught Aegle off guard and came in for a hug, the surprised human's only response was to tense up as her brain rushed to catch up with the intrusion on her person. She endured Lily's hold in that fashion without protest or resistance, though the faunus girl also did not hold the hug nearly long enough for Aegle's fighter's instincts to kick in. While it was unlikely that she would have tried to hurt the feline girl for her faux pas, Aegle knew more than one way to put a premature end to an unwanted embrace.
By the time the faunus girl pulled away, she left her human hostess considerably tenser and visibly unsettled. Aegle's smile had vanished and while the look which had replaced it couldn't quite be called a scowl, it still betrayed uncertainty which looked markedly out of place on her pale face. With as open as she was, there was no mistaking the conflict between, Aegle's amicable nature and the perceived intrusion against her personal space, as it played out in her expression. Her reaction probably wouldn't have been so strong if it had just been the hug. A hug, while unpleasant, would probably have simply earned Lily a huffy scowl.
Combine it with the look which had been on Lily's face as she delivered it, however...
After all, while Aegle was not Remnant's most perceptive inhabitant, she knew that look all too well. A look that Aegle had seen so often and on so many different faces that she couldn't help but notice it. A look that said someone had just realized there was something wrong with Aegle; That she wasn't just strange or weird or different, but that she was fundamentally broken. It was a look that condensed surprise and revulsion all into a single glance. It was a look full of pity and sympathy, each as unwanted as they were unnecessary. It was a look that set Aegle on edge and raised her hackles. If not for that look, she might not have even needed to bother wearing oversized clothes the way she did. If not for that look, she might not have been so compelled to hide the oddity of her body, and the life changing technology that let her live with it.
"S'alright..." Aegle answered Lily automatically, barely even hearing the raven haired girl's apology. Her cheeks began to flush, while the blood and warmth drained from her hands and feet. She heard her heart start to throb in her ears, and could feel its quickened pulse in her veins. She found her mouth dry, and felt the nearly autonomic compulsion to avert her eyes, and it was for that reason that she made absolutely certain to maintain eye contact with Lily. "It's fine..." she reiterated, as if repeating herself might make the words true. As guileless as her face was, it couldn't hold a candle to her voice, which was even more expressive. Her tone was shaky, her words clipped and her voice strained. Aegle had missed out on more than a little emotional growth in her youth; Between the tests and treatments, there hadn't been a lot of time for growing up and getting to know herself. So it was a real credit to her innately amiable, easy going nature that she didn't let even more of her emotions broil forth. It was to her nature's additional credit that she actually tried to calm herself down, instead of feeding the self-satisfying anger that might have guaranteed a premature end to her newest blossoming friendship. Aegle relaxed her hands from the fists they had pulled into, and exercised a careful breathing technique she usually reserved for the heat of battle. "I'm fine." This was said with markedly more confidence than before, though there was also a willful, brutish force behind it as well. It was as though, but saying those two words, Aegle wasn't just telling Lily she was fine, but actually ordering herself to be fine. It seemed to work too. After all, what Aegle may have lacked in self-control, she more than made up for in determination. Now while Aegle's determination to rapidly get over Lily's transgression might have been seen as both sensible and adult, it was really almost the exact opposite. Aegle wasn't making herself calm down out of any sense of self-possession or maturity. Instead, she was doing it for the same of simple, wrong headed pride. Much like she had stared right at Lily when the shame had made her want to do the exact opposite, now she made herself settle down specifically because Lily's actions had upset her. She was, in fact, refusing to let Lily's unsolicited sympathy and pity rile her up, purely out of spite.
Then, as sudden as sunrise, a smile abruptly blossomed on Aegle's lips. "I ain't gonna go easy on you when we spar." She said, her strained words giving way to her usual boisterous and amiable demeanor. She showed Lily a wolfish smile, one which showed entirely too many teeth, "Just cause I'm a cripple don't mean I can't whup yer butt." And just like that, all suggestion that Lily had managed to crack through Aegle's shield of obliviousness and actually upset the immature young girl underneath, vanished without a trace.
When asked what they should do next, Aegle merely answered with a shrug, which was markedly more impressive than it sounds, given just how difficult it was for the crooked girl to shrug at all. "I dunno. Usually by now I've only just gotten home, which usually means tryin' to do some homework or tweakin' the Oupis." Aegle glanced at the cluttered work table beside Lily's seat and spread her hands absently. She dropped her hands back to her side and glanced around the room, until her eyes finally alighted on a small clock, half covered under dirty clothes. "Still a little while till my evening work out." She observed, after walking over and kicking the clothes off to get a better look at the time. "What d'ya wanna do?"

Lily was, at the worst of times, incredibly perceptive. She had led a life that had forced that upon her. She always noticed every small detail of every person or creature she encountered. She knew when to run, when to fight, and when to dodge. It was incredibly plain to her that she'd offended Aegle. She thought of how she might have done so, and it was pretty obvious how. She had herself been cut by a glance shot to her by Aegle, and then she managed to do exactly the same thing. Perhaps even worse. Aegle may have rebounded quickly, she always did, but Lily wasn't quite ready to let it lie. She had to address this, to explain herself, and to make things right. She feared her attempt to do so might make things worse, since Aegle seemed more than ready to move on. However, she had to at least say what was on her mind.
"I'm sorry, looks can wither, but you have to understand. I previously said you would have done well where I'm from. That's untrue. Honestly, you would have been left to die as soon as the tribe realized you couldn't support yourself. I do not know how you came to be in possession of that brace, but technology like that doesn't exist where I'm from. I'm... I'm sorry that I looked at you like I did, I didn't mean to alienate you. I just want you to know that your survival is not wrong. My tribe wasn't wrong either. You wouldn't be possible where I'm from, but you are here. That's what makes this place special, that's what makes it worth fighting for." She paused, to think on what she'd say next, but mostly to get a breath in. She already knew most of what she wanted to say. "I have no doubt that you are already possessed of a fighting spirit worthy of being a huntress. That is why you are here. One day you will be a powerful warrior, and the state of your body will not lessen that achievement, nor will it make it any more impressive. You already have the drive to fight, that is your strength. That is all I need to know about you. No matter what happens, you will strive to be better than others think you should be. I didn't mean to hurt you, I know how unkind eyes can be." As she said that, she thought back to earlier that evening when the eyes of her classmates were on her. How her small fire, and prey had caused such a scene. "I didn't mean to be that, but I was surprised. I wasn't expecting it, you are so strong, I didn't think such strength could come from such weakness." She wished she had a better word than weakness to use in that sentence, but she was unable to produce one at the time. She wanted to hug her friend again, but remembering the tenseness that Aegle had felt the first time, she stopped herself. She didn't realize Aegle's aversion to the hug was likely a result of her not wanting additional contact, of her not wanting people to be too aware of her unhappy birth circumstances, but she could tell at the very least that Aegle was not fond of those sorts of touches.
She thought for a second, but decided that she had said her piece. So, she addressed Aegle's final questions.
"I wouldn't mind learning more about your... Oupis? And I would most definitely like to see whether or not a 'cripple' could indeed 'whup my butt'. "she said trying to lighten the mood after such a heavy conversation. She tried to suppress her small smile, but failed utterly, and hid it behind a hand as she laughed softly. It was a strained laugh, but genuine nonetheless.
She didn't think she'd be able to let go of this whole mess quite as quickly as Aegle seemed to be able to move from mood to mood, but she could at the very least be flexible enough to allow for mood shifts, even if they were a little bit more gradual. Her head was still full of doubts. Doubts about everything, about her presence here at Vytal, her standing as a student going forward after the bird incident, her friendship with Aegle, and her future as a Huntress. This had been a very big week for her, and she had a lot to be afraid of.

The smile, so recently returned to Aegle's face, faltered when Lily returned to the topic she'd made such a concerted effort to abandon. It was really a credit to her affable, if often oblivious, nature that it didn't vanish entirely. Still, she wasn't at all happy that the faunus girl had decided to push the issue, and that fact couldn't have been more obvious from the strained aspect her expression took on. Things were certainly not helped when Lily told her what would have happened to Aegle had she born out in the wilds instead of in Legion. Especially not when one considered the fact that Aegle was already knew. Worse still, she knew the outcome would have been nearly as dismal if she had been born in any of the other three kingdoms, as well. It was not the sort of thing she required any kind of reminder on.
By the time she was done, even the balm Lily had tried to apply at the last moment wasn't quite enough to salvage her choice in subject matter. Aegle had received similar assurance before. She'd had doctors and family tell her how strong she was and marvel at what a brave girl she must be, and always right before or right after they told her something awful. She might not have been the brightest girl in Remnant, but even Aegle could follow a pattern that obvious, and it was hard for her not to read Lily's own assurances as disingenuous as a result.
"Yeah... We should definitely do that..." Aegle said finally, her smile almost entirely gone. She was no longer sure how to progress. All her instincts were in conflict and all she really knew was that she wanted this conversation to be over. "Some other time..." She could already feel herself wanting to get angry, to rage against Lily's comments without really understanding what exactly the faunus girl had said to upset her. On a purely intellectual level, Aegle wanted to give Lily the benefit of the doubt and trustingly assumed the faunus girl hadn't been trying to upset her. That trust only extended so far, however, and Aegle's limited capacity to rationalize her own emotions kept her from reigning those emotions in. Thus, while was sure Lily hadn't been trying to be hurtful, she still felt hurt by the things the feline girl had said. Only adding to the emotional unease which she felt was Aegle's own frustration at being unable to understand where her emotions were coming from and why she suddenly felt the way she did. So, like she did whenever confronted with something she didn't understand, Aegle defaulted to her tried and true method for dealing with the world. "I think I'm actually gonna get started exercisin' a bit early tonight..." She tried to force a smile, but her heart plainly wasn't in it. She glanced at the punching bag set up in the corner of her room and, in a strangely vulnerable motion, gave her own slender frame a half hug. "If y'don't mind... I train alone." As she said this, Aegle moved across the room and once again opened her door. The message was clear. Even though her tone had remained amiable and friendly, her body language and expression told a much different story. She wanted Lily to leave, and she was trying to get her to do so in the gentlest way she knew how. "Try not to get lost, yeah? S'a big city..."

Lily might not be great with people, but she did get the message loud and clear. Her new friend was deeply hurt by what she'd said. It made sense that she was. Lily was used to harsh truths. What had this girl done to deserve such a blatant reminder of what surely was not news to her. She had attempted to save Lily from humiliation, guided her away from danger, and offered to take her under her wing. So it only made sense that she was hurt for the trouble. Everyone else was. The tribe kicked her parents out because they recognized that Lily was dangerous to be around. Her parents were rewarded with death as a thank you. Every tribe she encountered turned her away. She was probably better off alone.
But... She liked this girl. She didn't want to hurt her like that, and she didn't want to leave things on such awful terms, but she knew she wasn't a skillful enough speaker to salvage this. She moved towards the door, head hung low. She felt deep shame, both at her inability to remedy the situation, and her inconsiderate behavior that created the situation in the first place. Aegle had given plenty of hints that she didn't want to talk about all of this, and Lily pushed it anyway. Her ears flattened against her head, and she avoided direct eye contact.
"Thanks, for the food, and for the help," she said somberly as she moved across the threshold of the door. She was trying desperately to figure out some way to salvage this mess, but hadn't a clue how she might. She wanted any solution that existed to pop out at her, but nothing did. The desperate Faunus looked to be on the verge of tears, but she wasn't going to force her presence on her friend. She didn't want to make things even worse by hanging around when she wasn't wanted.
"I owe you one, for earlier," She squeaked in a small hoarse voice before turning to head down the hall. She hoped to hear Aegle come after her again, like she had when she'd run away from the people staring at the cafeteria, but somehow she didn't think she would. She could feel her suddenly overactive tear glands startings to kick into action once again. They'd gotten plenty of work since she'd arrived at Vytal, but she refrained from crying too Audibly while she was still near Aegle's door.
