★ APPEARANCE
Zari is a well maintained and slender man who is on the border of anorexic. Standing roughly five feet and seven inches. (5'7") Zari is a classically hansom man with universally attractive features with a sharp jaw. His hair is pale silver and is reflective with a brilliant shine. Cut short to keep out of his vision, his bangs are jagged. At times his hair is combed to look like a wing on top of his head. Other times it is a mess. Zari's eyes are crimson and teal which reflect a cold appearance. Appearing to continuously judge what they fall upon. In his ears are small scares where earrings used to hang from. Around his neck is the tattoo of an infamous gang.
It takes the shape of a chain wrapped around his throat with a black crown resting on his neck. Most wouldn't know it just by looking at it, but the tattoo was made using Void Dust. However over the years it's effectiveness has faded. On principle alone, Zari gets the tattoo maintained today using normal black ink. Zari likes to hide this tattoo by wearing dress shirts with large collars and ties. While he hides a pair of tattoos on his hands using gloves. These tattoos take the shape of a white cross on both hands. These tattoos were made using Divine Dust to assist in counter-acting the void dust in Zari's neck.
On most days, he wears his 'uniform' while teaching students. White dress shirts coupled with grey vests and red ties. Black sacks or dress pants are the norm of his leg wear along with dress shoes. Rarely will he wear sneakers or other athletic footwear.

★ HISTORY
What is life if not actions and reactions. You can take the wrong action, and have the wrong reaction. And because of minute mistakes, your life becomes a living hell. This was the only truth Zari knew for a part of his life. As a young boy Zari would regularly get into fights in his neighborhood in Rift. He was in a low class family who had nothing special about them. Maybe long ago, there were warriors who had the same blood. However in this era, Zari was the son of a pair of minimal wage workers. In his youth he was greedy and was not satisfied with the things his parents struggled for. So naturally, he turned to petty crimes. Snatching money from easy targets, breaking and entering business after hours, and assisting established thugs. A week barely went by without him being forced into a confrontation of some sort. Many were settled using bare hands; and Zari didn't always come out on top.
At the age of thirteen (13) he made a small reputation for himself. With the accomplishments he had managed to gain, plus his young age, he was looking like a valuable investment to a good deal of people. Catching wind of Zari's fighting habits, and his willingness to commit crime, a gang recruited Zari. This group of individuals would be later known as Black Pharaoh. It was here Zari acquired his first weapon and took his first life. The shock of the experience left Zari scared and his mind began to break down and rebuilt itself solely for survival. By joining Black Pharaoh, Zari signed his soul away. Leaving home, school, and eventually his sanity behind. For the next few years Zari would commit murder, grand theft, and other crimes for the sake of his new 'acquaintances' and his own life. He fought each and every day, gaining strength, scars, and respect.
At the age of twenty-two (22)Zari was commander of the Stalwart branch and had acquired the nickname Reaper. His boss and leader of Black Pharaoh, Lucien Tet, gifted each of his high ranking officers- known as Priests- with Void Dust tattoos. These granted each one greater power and control over their subordinates and allowed them to terrorize anyone with ease. However this would be the height of the criminal group's power. The negative effects of the Void dust began to quickly take hold of the Priests. Most ended up committing suicide thanks to the effects it had on the mind. Others would be killed by Grimm that were attracted to the men. This fall in power allowed police and even some military intervention to completely bring down Black Pharaoh. Using what little common sense Zari had left, he ran away and eventually made it to the settlement of Cela in Pinnacle.
The monks of Cela took pity on the man with a broken mind. After two months of treatment and allowing the Void dust to run its course, the Monastery leader used a mysterious aura technique on Zari. Forcing the man to witness each action, each crime committed within his own mind. Zari became ashamed of himself and life. After leaving the mental loop he swore his life to the betterment of himself and preventing others from falling into the same pit of darkness. For ten years he would train with the monks in order to unlock his aura, master using it, and perfecting his semblance. This time was also spent in meditation and thinking on how he would spend the rest of his life once he left Cela. Word got out that Zari the Reaper was in Clea, authorities came to take Zari to be executed. The leader of the Monastery spoke out against this and claimed Zari was rehabilitated.
While it was not accepted at first, it was tolerated after a deal was struck between Zari, authorities, and Vytal academy when Zari was thirty-two (32). The Headmaster of Vytal took Zari in as a faculty member, and promised he would not be allowed to leave the facility unless it was deemed absolutely necessary. The headmaster wanted to use Zari for a number of things. Assistant combat instructor, aura-use instructor, a guidance councilor, but mostly as an example to students and the world. An example of what could be produced if a person whole-heartily wanted to change. Being told this plan, Zari accepted the duties he was given. Dubbed 'Zari the Sorry', the teacher works hard to drill not only the skills required to be a Hunter into his students. He also teaches them the traits needed to be better people. He teaches that no one is perfect but you can become something close to it.

★ COMBAT NOTES
WEAPONS
Midnight Thorn
Zari uses a weapon which was designed to be powerful and fast while keeping a humble nature. Midnight Thorn as it is called, is a long metal rod used for blunt swings and thrusting attacks. Standing at almost an even height as Zari, Midnight Thorn is a staff which is 5'5" in length with a diameter of 3 inches. It is a perfectly cylindrical rod with a number of slits and grooves etched and carved into it. The weapon has a matted black color thanks to the gravity dust infused into the metal while it was being forged and constructed. While it would be around 20 lb without this enhancement, the weapon actually weighs roughly around 5 lb. This lighter weight grants Zari the ability to swing and perform techniques which would otherwise be impossible to pull off.
The small grooves on Midnight Thorn were made to give the weapon a haunting wail as it is being swung. It moves the air and forms a whistle that resembles a hallow echo-- best described as a ghost calling out. There is one location where these slits do serve a very real purpose. Within Midnight Thorn, there are no chambers for Dust. Zari is not proficient enough nor likes using the powerful mineral. Instead, within the staff is a coil of special material which assists in channeling aura. In addition to this, a flexible metal blade is located at the top of the rod. By spending 10 aura points, Zari is able to pulsate his aura into Midnight Throne. This causes the thin blade to extend out of it's compartment-- turning the weapon into a scythe.
Unfolding into a 3 feet long curved blade, the width is 6 inches at the base before becoming a fine point. What makes this weapon unique however, is that when in this form, the scythe's blade is able to be coated in Zari's aura. This coat of aura costs 3 aura points per 2 minutes of use. This is a separate action from the aura skill Offensive Enhancement. During this time the scythe's blade is twice as sharp and doubles in size. It does not actually grow however. Zari's aura solidifies and wraps around the scythe blade. Making the range increase from 3 feet in length to 6 feet.
While this weapon is not as high-tech as other weapons in Remnant, it is still a powerful and deadly weapon in the correct hands. Those hands belonging to Zari. However, he is only allowed to use Midnight Thorn's scythe mode in special situations and never against his students.
MISC.
While Zari is fond of Midnight Thorn, he has a pair of tonfa just in case he is not able to use the staff. These tonfa are made of wood with metal reinforcements. Due to his position in life, he is not often off campus. Thus he has no real reason to have more than one weapon-- nor does he like using Dust. He has his scroll, which acts as everything from communication device to his wallet and ID. However when he is ordered away from campus for any reason, he uses boots which are weaved with gravity and kinetic dust. Allowing him to move quicker and kick with more force.
Zari's aura is a unique phenomena even within the world of aura users. His aura is projected as a near translucent glow. Barely illuminating with a pale white halo around his body. It gives off the faint scent of blood and roses. After a time however his aura darkens in color and becomes brighter. The white halo is surrounded by a dark violet and red field which escapes Zari's body.
Due to much training at Cela, Zari is able to use a handful of Aura abilities extremely well.
Offensive Enhancement - 5 AP
Mending - 4 AP
Aura Unlocking- 3AP
Defense Enhancement - 5 AP
Self-Control: Reaper Style
Zari's life has been a path of choices, actions and reactions which pulled him forward. He himself was never able to take control of his own destiny, his own life, because of a few poor choices. In reflection of that, his soul offers him the power to take back control. When activated, his aura begins to swell around his body and radiate a powerful pressure. Activating the semblance costs a massive portion of his AP. A total of 100 AP. In addition to this large cost, Zari must also use Divine Dust to activate the semblance. Due to his history with Void Dust, a part of his soul is walled off no matter how much training he goes through. Only Divine Dust will negate this issue and allow Zari's full power to be unleashed. After these two conditions have been met Zari's semblance will enhance his body for 5 minutes.
Aura slowly begins to wrap around Zari to resemble a violet cloak with a white halo around him. This cloak covers his entire body and masks his face. The duration of Self Control can be checked by the petals that flutter off of the cloak. They slowly fall off until nothing remains. Leaving Zari with only a mask of aura in the last moment of the Semblance activation. Titled after his infamous nickname, Self-Control: Reaper Style uses Zari's aura to override the limits of human beings in regards to speed and even physics.
The aura that surrounds him protects Zari from the negative effects of high-speed maneuvering, wind-resistance and allows him to negate the effects of gravity to a degree. This is achievable thanks to his aura applying whatever force Zari desires. For forward acceleration and side maneuvering, he boosts his speed by infusing his own body with the aura from his 'cloak'. This way, Zari is able to reach a top speed of Mach 1.5-- a few hundred miles per hour faster than a bullet. At this time, he is able to run and even change direction on the surface of water. Also, by redirecting the flow of his aura, Zari is able to lift himself off the ground. He is able to levitate up to 200 yards off the ground at anytime-- reaching a top speed of 150 MPH.
Due to the nature of this semblance, there is much to be desired in terms of raw strength. While his speed and acceleration increases, along with some utility skills, Zari's strength level does not increase. In fact, his power is cut in half. The muscles become lighter and thinner to compensate for his speed boost. Zari is able to go forward and move to the side fast, however he is physically incapable of even stepping backwards. While he could turn around; doing a complete 180 will cause him to completely stop and pause for 2 seconds. At which time he is vulnerable to attacks.
