The Remnants Plot 2.0 Communitysourcing Thread!
It's quite the title, innit?
Anyway, let’s talk about the new story!
We had a lot more than we do right now, but that’s my fault because of computer failure. A lot of our work gone, kaput, bye bye. It sucks, but ohs well. What we do have, however, are a few pieces of notes we either posted in the staff section here on the site or uploaded to Google Docs in a brief period of genius. You’ll find those notes below, with each piece in spoilers to avoid throwing someone into a coma with a massive text wall. I’d also like to get your opinions on what’s currently on the table, as well as suggest something you think might be cool to add.
Community crowdsourcing, you could say. Let’s make something awesome! :v
Document titled "REMPLOT", Google Docs:
Many thousands of years ago, the earliest signs of intelligent life - as we know it - came in the form of Faunus. These beings appeared identical to their eventual human counterparts, yet they were completely different in that they possessed traits of the animals they had evolved alongside for so long. To this very day no one knows why this evolutionary marvel occurred, but the most likely theory held by scholars today is that it came to be to allow these beings to survive in the world against Remnant’s most dangerous creation - the creatures of Grimm. Not long after Faunus and Grimm began to spread throughout the world, Mankind - humans - were born from the dust of the world.
Harsh and unforgiving, our world proved hostile to early humankind, particularly as the Grimm set their sights on pushing mankind and their creation back to the void from which they came. Man fought back, alongside the Faunus, but found it difficult to contend with the sheer might of these beasts of destruction. It wasn’t until they discovered what was then known as Nature’s Wrath - crystallized essence of the planet’s raw power. With these stones in hand, mankind pushed the creatures of Grimm back to the shadows, eventually settling all over the world. Though successful, their efforts were not without struggle. Many settlements were destroyed, but others flourished.
Major settlements would eventually grow into the Kingdoms of old - Vale, Vacuo ( both located on the central continent Sanus), Mantle (located in the northern continent of Solitas), and Mistral (located on the eastern continent of Anima).
Peace, for a time, was abundant in our world. Humans lived comfortably among one another, with more and more villages sprawling seemingly out of nowhere as the creatures of Grimm were kept at bay. Faunus, however, did not share in the spoils. For their efforts, the Faunus were taken as laborers - some against their will, exploited for their superior abilities. Similar treatment of the Faunus spread to the Kingdom of Mantle, though the north proved far less forgiving than the desert nation. These two Kingdoms competed aggressively in the mining and trading of Dust - the name appropriately given to “Nature’s Wrath”. Eventually this race led to Vacuo’s resources running dry, reduced to almost no more than a wasteland. Mantle, however, continued to thrive.
The hopes and dreams of many across the world shattered with the advent of the Great War. Records do not identify the instigators of the conflict, only that the individuality of all Remnant’s citizens was at risk. Art, music, and other forms of individual expression were destroyed, practitioners persecuted. Some modern historians believe that such things may have been outlawed within the antagonist force’s borders, but no one knows for sure. Those fighting for that right to individuality eventually overcame the aggressors, with the aid of the Faunus, and the Great War eventually came to an end. On the island of Vytal, just north of the Kingdom of Vale, the War formally concluded with the signing of the first Vytal Accords.
Among these laws sprawled a tradition that would last for centuries: The Rule of Radiance. Men and women of Remnant began naming their children in ways that reflected that artful expression they had all fought so hard to keep. Colors, things that invoked color, almost anything that could be attributed to such eventually saw its way into the naming scheme of Remnant’s people - and so it remained for several generations.
This sought after peace didn’t last forever.
Following the Great War, the Faunus were given Menagerie as a reward their participation, in conjunction with equal rights. While some Humans saw these rewards as fair and just, many Faunus saw it as a slap to the face. These feelings grew as humans became more adamant to push the Faunus to centralize their population to the island. As fighting began between the two races, prominent figures rose that proposed confining the Faunus to the island, as well as countermanding the rights they had earned for their help during the war. Those Faunus that had not yet moved to the island revolted in response, sparking the flame that would become the Faunus Rights Revolution.
What ensued was the Faunus War, an armed conflict between the two races that lasted at least three years. Although little information is available regarding the actual chronology of the war, the Battle of Fort Castle in the third year of the war is widely regarded as the turning point. The inexperienced leader of the Human forces, General Lagune, attempted to catch the enemy off-guard in a nocturnal attack. However, the Faunus were able to leverage their advantage of near-perfect night vision and soundly defeated the larger army. In their victory, the Faunus prevented their confinement and retained their rights. Some time after the war, the White Fang organization was set up and intended to serve as a prospective "symbol of peace and unity between Humans and the Faunus".
If only they had never strayed from that path.
Through a short lived peace, tension between the two races continued to escalate. The White Fang, now under radical leadership, battled the peacekeeping forces of the Kingdoms. Hijacking, terrorist attacks, and more came as a result - all drawing in more creatures of Grimm. Over time, it grew apparent to the Kingdom leadership of those days that some darker force was at work. This darkness culminated during the 40th Annual Vytal Festival Tournament, when this darker force unleashed an unseen horror on the Kingdom of Vale. The losses were great, and with Beacon Tower destroyed by a massive Grimm all contact between the Four Kingdoms was lost. When all seemed lost, a select few saw fit to stand against the ever growing shadows.
As far as our recounting of history is concerned, they were successful.
The Black Witch, known in those days as Salem, was defeated. Her power, used to perform unimaginable feats, was confined to a single stone and locked away far below Vale as the Kingdom rebuilt itself. There, it was guarded diligently, until the Calamity.
It had long been established that some unseen force rendered Dust inert upon reaching a certain distance from Remnant’s surface, but a subtle pulse from the sun - brighter than any beacon - ultimately thrust mankind into the darkest of days since the Kingdoms had been established. This pulse shifted Remnant’s natural energy fields, causing that Dust rendering force to spread across the planet’s surface. At our weakest, the creatures of Grimm saw it as their opportunity, and the Kingdoms were quickly overwhelmed. Those that survived fled to the wilds, using whatever resources at their disposal to survive.

BF??? - Mankind is born from the dust of the world. They share the planet with Faunus, a human-like species that have evolved with traits reminiscent of Remnant’s wildlife, and the creatures of Grimm. The latter, beasts of considerable power, begin attacking early human and Faunus settlements, seemingly intent on ending mankind’s brief existence and sending them back to the void.
BF??? - Mankind and the Faunus discover ore capable of harnessing the very power of nature. This is originally known as “Nature’s Wrath”, but comes to formally be known as “Dust” at a later date. With Dust, mankind and their animal-like counterparts push back the creatures of Grimm and eventually establish the very first major settlements of the original four Kingdoms. Vale and Vacuo are established on the continent of Sanus, Mantle of the continent of Solitas, and Mistral on the continent of Anima.
BF??? - As the Kingdoms develop, the demand for Dust increases. Mantle and Vacuo find themselves locked in a race to produce the most of the precious resource, which eventually sees the latter Kingdom reduced to a near wasteland. Both Kingdoms exploit the gifts of the Faunus, but none more so than Mantle. This leads to tension between the two separate races, with contempt for the Faunus reaching its peak in the northern Kingdom.
BF??? - The suppression of self-expression and the destruction of art, by an unknown aggressor, leads to the First Great War. The Kingdoms of Vale and Vacuo unite against the Kingdoms of Mantle and Mistral. With the aid of the Faunus, those fighting to preserve the right of all people to express their individuality finally overcame the antagonists of the War. On the island of Vytal, leadership figures from each of the four Kingdoms meet to discuss terms of peace. This sees the first instance of the Rule of Radiance, a tradition that saw men and women across the planet named in ways indicative of color, as well as the Faunus being gifted the continent of Menagerie and granted equal rights.
BF??? - After a short-lived peace, the Faunus Rights Revolution ensues as a result of efforts to confine the Faunus to Menagerie. This armed conflict lasts for approximately three years, with the turning point being the Battle of Fort Castle. The leader of the Human forces, General Lagune, sent his army to take the Faunus position of Fort Castle at night, attempting to take them by surprise as they slept. However, he failed account for the near perfect night vision of his enemies, resulting in his army being soundly defeated, and he himself captured. Following this, with the assistance of their allies, the Faunus were able to defeat their oppressors, thus preventing their confinement and loss of rights. Some time after this victory, the White Fang is established, intending to serve as a prospective "symbol of peace and unity between Humans and the Faunus".

"Write-up Notes" (sans rules), Staff Board:
Political Landscape
Kingdoms, Territories, and Countries
- Menagerie will have had a civil war within the last 30 or so years that came to a bloody close when Rift's military got involved to quash the uprising. As a result the nation would be split in two with the Pax Republic controlled by Menagerie's Chieftain to the west, the Ferum Empire to the East controlled by the White Fang's High Leader, and the Etus Boundary supported by Rift's Military and Pax's Militias in the middle to support the tenuous peace treaty between the two divergent states.
Vytal Accords Treaty
- None.
Social Climate
- Faunus, while more apparent in society these days, are still very discriminated against in parts of the world. In Rift, on Vytal Island, and Menagerie there are often few problems to the point that most can live comfortably, albeit while still looking over their shoulders, but in relative safety. In Pinnacle and Setek, the racial tensions are far higher leading to an apparent disdain for their culture but they are accepted begrudgingly nonetheless in society even if it is just barely. In Legion, Faunus are nearly outlawed; they are heavily discriminated against and are often the victims of hate related crimes which the authorities will often step in to quash but only after something serious has already happened. All-in-all Legion is by far the worst civil rights offender for this species making assimilating into Legions' domain hard if not impossible for them.
- Androids in most parts of the world are seen as tools despite their appearance or functionality. While the do have some rights, their freedoms are hardly at the point of their fleshy counterparts leading some Androids to lash out against their oppression. However, laws prohibit Androids from exerting their will against living beings unless it is in the service of either a private or military sanctioned organizations. As such these uprisings have been met with surprising and almost wanton force as a means of the flesh and blood staking their dominion over their creations.
- Cyborgs in general often aren't discriminated against in society but there are parts of the world that see donning cybernetic parts as a cop-out of sorts. This is especially so with full-body prosthetee's who are mostly machine given their similarities with Androids. As a result some see them as such and see that having decided to give up their Humanity they should be willing to give up their rights as well. While this is far from the case legislatively, in any kingdom for that matter, it still is a hot button issue in some groups and in some places.
Organizations
International Organizations
- The United Federation of Sovereignties - abbreviated "UFS" - is an international intergovernmental organization to oversee the adherence to the Vytal Accords Treaty and promote cooperation between the various kingdoms and nations throughout Remnant. While they cannot directly interfere with any one government they do act as a mediator between the various governments and oversee international peace keeping agencies such as the Hunters Alliance and the International Security Bureaus.
- Hunters will be part of an organization known as the "Hunter Alliance" which is defined as a International organization not holding allegiance to any one Kingdom or Nation. Their duty is to uphold the peace of the world by fending off and slaying the Creatures of Grimm.
- Special Operatives are also a part of the United Federation of Sovereignties International Security Bureaus. They are highly skilled elite soldiers who have been trained both militarily as well as to be hunters in their own right and are the UFS's military force as it were. Furthermore, they are elected from the various militaries world-wide from the different nations and kingoms to serve in the position. These Special Operatives, while not above the law, have been given the authority and duty to protect the denizens of remnant and the peace that the Vytal Accords Treaty has carved out using any means necessary to get the job done. In the eyes of the UFS, the needs of the many far outweigh the needs of the few. In essence, if a few eggs get cracked to make an omelette they wouldn't bat an eyelash.

- Gone are the days of the ancient CCTS having been destroyed and dilapidated over centuries of being inactive and wear and tear. Now the denizens of Remnant pander to a new technology capable of serving the network world wide called the "Geostationary Network Transmission Array" otherwise known as "GNTA" (Pronounced "Geh-N-tah"). GNTA, as its called, is a marvel of technology built during a time of interspecies cooperation and is an interwoven grid of satellites that sits in low remnant orbit (LRO) utilizing the sun's energy through a series of high-grade golden nanocluster solar panels and high-capacity power cells to power itself and to serve the network across the globe. Furthermore, as a side note, GNTA is a variant of the name "Gentius" which means "to beget" which otherwise means "to give rise to" or "to bring about".
- Full-Dive technology, while rare outside of corporations and larger organizations, is a thing in this day and age. As such, the GNTA Network has been fitted to serve both virtual and analog connections. This means that while connections through scrolls, terminals, and the like are possible full-dive connections are as well allowing the user to immerse themselves in a virtualized representation of the network and interact with it directly, hardware provided.
