He looked at her with an analyzing glare as her mood seemed to shift after he spoke about his family, then shift back after he re-explained the offensive aura bit. He took note of just how quickly her mindset changed back and forth, something he definitely would need to remember. As he had guessed, the moment she brought up weapons she eagerly showed her own off. There was a pride that he learned many students had when it came to their weapons, and when the topic inevitably came up it was almost as if anyone involved would try and make their weapon seem as cool as possible.
Almost as if it were an everyday motion by this point, Zaffre grabbed the two shields he had dropped to the side of the bench when he sat down. He attached one to his wrist, this one having a round shape with a wavelike cross-section. It seemed unassuming at first glance but with a quick flick of his wrist, the shield swirled into a compact rectangle before morphing to form a pistol. The gun was still connected to his wrist, so as he released the handle it morphed back into a shield. His other shield was much larger, and as he stood to hold it the shield covered a fair amount of his body. It looked rather bulky, but it clearly wasn't made just for defense. Along the edge of the shield and facing away from him was a wavy ridge that was just as sharp as any blade. More of these ridges could be seen as you looked closer and closer to the center until at the very center was a large spike. Once again, to show what the shield could do, he pressed a button on the handle which opened the spike at the front. Behind it was a small grenade, but before it could fire he closed the spike. As much as he would've liked to demonstrate, he doubted the school would pardon him for blowing a whole in the ground.
"It's not always the most intimidating weapon looks wise, but coupled with another little trait it makes for a powerful defense," He stated, his thin tentacles forming a near perfect circle around him. They were small strands and would have hardly visible in the diminishing light if it weren't for how many there was, but they nonetheless were his trump card. Sixty in total, they waved lightly in the air, hardly moving but with so many they made it look like there was a ghostly aura around him. For a short moment, he let his face turn serious as he looked at Vanessa. With shield raised and tentacles ready to sting, he would've been an intimidating figure to many despite his rather bland clothing.
He quickly dropped the serious face, switching it out for his previous, more relaxed look. He wasn't trying to scare her, just show her a little taste of his capability. "Sorry if I got a little serious there, I tend to get that way sometimes when I have my gear on. Might just be my military upbringing, though. My father was always insistent that if I were to wield a weapon I had to be cautious and think about the power I was holding. Guess he still gets in my head sometimes, that stupid basta-" His voice grew dark as he drew near the end of his statement, but he cut himself off before he finished. Taking a deep breath, he relaxed once more before bowing his head slightly. "Sorry about that, guess I've still got a bit of letting go to do." He gave a dry laugh, something one might expect of another who just said what Zaffre did.
