PLAYED BY Gresian Twenty (20) January (01) | Male Vytal Senior Student Faunus (Box Jelly) | |
Zaffre Duke |
★ APPEARANCE
Zaffre tends not to be all that flashy in appearance, preferring a more relaxed image that doesn't take much work to put on and take off. He wears dark gray dress pants and a simple navy turtleneck as well as black shoes. The shoes appear like they are for formal wear, but they have the flexibility needed for combat.
He has a less intimidating build than most, being rather twig-ish in all honesty. He stands at 6'2", and as suggested by his thin figure he doesn't have much muscle compared to most other hunters. He has deep blue hair and eyes to match, each having a deep ocean hue to them. He doesn't have any tattoos to account for, nor piercings, but he does have a light scar along his lower jawline and a faint mark on his right side, both injuries being a result of a rough match he had early on in his training.
His most unique trait, however, is the number of tentacles protruding from his back. Numbering sixty in total, these thin strands tend to stay within his shirt, though there are small holes in his shirt that allow them to come out when needed. Each tentacle is about two and a half meters long and carries venom. The venom is much tamer compared to a normal box jelly, so its effects aren't nearly as devastating as the animal counterpart's.
★ PERSONALITY
★ HISTORY
Zaffre grew up in Legion, born to a military family. He led a rather easy life, his father being a military man who would often go out grimm hunting and his mother generally staying home to look after him in his early years. From a young age, he had heard tales from his father about the glory of being in the military, about the brave souls in it, about anything that could be shared about the military. His father was evidently very dedicated to his job, and for a while Zaffre was very interested in joining the military himself.
As Zaffre got older though, he began to see the exact state of his family compared to most others. His father was almost always out doing his job and was almost never home, something that troubled his mother greatly. Eventually, when he was eleven, he overheard a fight between his mother and father, the argument being over the issue of how little his father was around. His father gave excuse after excuse about how his job was very important, and while his parents were able to get over the fight, Zaffre didn't. He grew to resent the military, hate it even, and when he was old enough to go to Vytal academy, he ran away from his house and made the trip himself. While his parents both were wanting him to attend the academy, he didn't want his purpose for being there to be because his father wanted it.
Throughout his time as a student, his bitterness towards the military only festered, and soon boiled over into his views about many other things. He became cynical, and by the time he became a freshman he was already much different than the happy young boy he once was. He often got in trouble with the teachers during practice fights as he would usually continue to attack even when his opponents aura was running out. There was one instance in particular where he had a heavy grudge against one of the students and caused them to go into shock after he stung them with his tentacles. He was temporarily suspended from all his combat courses during that time, but he still kept up with his training on his own free time.

★ PERSONALITY
POSITIVE - Calm Level headed and tranquil, Zaffre is a very relaxed individual. Regardless of what he's doing, even if it's stressful, he seems to have a deep serenity to how he acts that is very difficult to phase. - Logical A thinker, he likes to consider options and weigh conciquenses before making a decision. He is often quick to make conclusions about things but that is only thanks to his ability to deduce things with knowledge and reason. - Comprehending He is very good at reading others and getting a sense of what they are going through. He can usually tell when someone is bothered by something or is having a difficult time, but his lack of compassion for people who are struggling makes it a little less obvious. - Self-reflective He is good at taking a step back and looking at himself in a reasonable light for the most part, though there are a few things he turns a blind eye to in the heat of the moment. He typically reviews conversations and interactions he has to be able to discern how he can adjust his behavior to better suit his intentions - Fast-thinking Zaffre is able to quickly assess and evaluate situations with a fair amount of accuracy, usually trying to stay one step ahead of an opponent in battle. This also leads to him being very decisive, and often appear instinctual instead of well thought out. | NEGATIVE - Cold Despite his ability to comprehend and deal with people, he isn't the friendly type. He will sometimes make himself appear to be open and friendly, though he rarely ever feels positively towards others. Those he deems beneath him or useless are often cast from his mind without a second chance. - Manipulating On the off chances where he does act nicely with someone, the chances that he wants something from them is very high. He usually alters his behavior to the person's likings as best as he can, using his people skills to shift conversations where he wants them to go and plant his ideals in the backs of peoples minds. Often subtle with what he does, he mixes a false appeal with small pushes to get what he wants from people. - Arrogant Over confident in his abilities, Zaffre sometimes takes large risks that go against his knowledge about himself. Even if he knows he isn't able to take someone on, there is an unyielding pride that tells him that he will have a way to tip the scales in his favour. - Cruel Often excessive in battle, his cold attitude leads to some less savory parts of him. When finishing a fight as a winner, he doesn't just want to win, he wants to crush his opponent, make sure they fear ever facing him again. Outside of battle, he tends to be very blunt about his dislike of people, often mocking them if they try to make him stop. - Grudging Not one to let another off the hook, if you displease him you can bet that he won't let the grudge die. Even after exacting revenge, he won't leave someone be and will often give them more than they had deserved for what they did, even if they didn't do anything bad in the first place. |

★ COMBAT NOTES
WEAPONS
He wields a rather unconventional pair of weapons, those being a buckler shield on his left hand and a targe shield in his right.
The buckler is collapsible, the surface of the shield spiraling in to collapse and spiraling out to expand. It measures at twenty-five centimeters in diameter and is classified as a type 1d. In its collapsed state, the metal plates that make up the shield are shaped like the barrel of a pistol, and a trigger can be revealed to turn it into a pistol. Bullets can't be loaded into the pistol when in buckler mode, so clips must be carried separately.
The targe is his main weapon, however, designed to be both a powerful weapon as well as a strong defense. The shield is sixty centimeters in diameter and is held in hand. There is also a strap that allows him to carry the shield on his back when it's not in use. Sticking out from the base of the rim is a number of wavy ridges that are sharpened. Similar ridges form rings all the way to the center, six rings in total that are spaced five centimeters apart. The center of the shield has a spike protruding from it which is eight centimeters long. The spike can be retracted for storage, but it also has a secondary function. The spike can open up to launch a small grenade, the launcher fed by a magazine that circles the inside of the rim. The magazine holds twenty of the small grenades.
MISC.
As could be expected, one of the things he most commonly uses in battle beside his weapon is his tentacles. While not as lethal as the animal counterpart, they still do pack a fair punch. Upon contact with the tentacles, the venom causes a searing pain in the affected person's body where they were stung, the pain most easily described as an intense burning sensation. As well, the venom is somewhat lethal, but would only kill if a very large dose was injected and it would require some time for the venom to be passed on fully.
When going into battle, Zaffre always makes sure to carry twenty clips for the pistol mode of his buckler. Five clips have standard bullets, five have water dust bullets, five have ice dust bullets, and five have steam dust bullets, and all these clips contain twelve bullets. He also carries three spare grenades, either for emergency use with his shield or to throw.
The weightlessness of tranquility, the unease of what cannot be seen; the joy of the moment, the terror of the sting; all of these things are what Zaffre's aura is like. It pits two conflicted emotions against each other, letting the state of the people in it decide which is stronger. Those who are truly happy find the comforts of the aura, but those who are feeling more negative feel the sting, either outcome enforcing the initial feelings. The aura has a rich and deep shade of blue to it with little white shimmers dancing around like sunlight on the water's surface. It smells of the sea and also of venom, once again letting the state of a person's mind determine which scent is stronger.

Flexile Form
This semblance makes the line between human and animal closer to the latter, altering his body slightly to greater resemble the animal his Faunus trait represents. For starters, the semblance causes his body to turn translucent, allowing you to see through him. While it doesn't get to the point where he is overly difficult to see, it still has a somewhat eerie effect as you can also see his insides if you look close enough. As well, he gains additional eyes around his head, increasing his total from two to twenty four, however the additional twenty two are merely for show and are non-functional. While the aesthetics do make the shift a very interesting one, the main event is his flexibility. He becomes able to bend in ways unnatural to a normal person, and seems to be able to pull of miraculous stunts as a result. He can twist his body far more than should be normal, bend things that shouldn't bend, and stretch his skin and body to some degree. However, when he switches to this state or vise versa, his body needs a little time to get used to the change, meaning he is usually sloppy after transforming or sore when becoming more solid again. Using the semblance requires fifteen AP for each minute it is active, and will force him to return back to normal when his aura reaches zero.
