Another month, another late update thread! What gives, am I right?
Honestly, it’s been a mix of an uncomfortably busy work schedule and illness, but oh well! This are clearing up, so it’s time to talk about some of the changes coming to the site over the course of the next few weeks - possibly dragging on to a month or more, depending on discussion among the staff team.
Which brings us to our first order of business for this update - the staff team!
As site activity picks up, and my ever ridiculous work schedule continues to tan my hide, it has grown more and more apparent that I’m going to need a hand running things here. I have, admittedly and regretfully, tried very hard to take full control of things without really reaching out for a hand. This was for two reasons. The first, and probably the most detrimental in light of recent events, being that I didn’t want to relinquish that control of the site and its plot in anyway and, as has been the event in the past, see the site flounder where it could succeed.
The other was hoping that the moderator team I had selected at the site’s inception would step up to the plate and finally take control of some things as well. That, unfortunately, did not happen - but I can’t say their reasons for fizzling out were good or bad, because I simply do not know. Regardless, I hope everyone can move forward as we welcome our two new moderators to the lovely world of staffhood - two members everyone seems to have a generally high opinion of:
Hematos and Ash!
Both of these members bring something very important to the site’s success to the table. We have Hema, who has the experience I’ve looked for in a moderator for some time - experience that, so far, has proven invaluable as we move forward in efforts to improve the site. Then there is Ash, who could be considered a loremaster of sorts among the ranks of Remnants. He reads - as far as we’ve observed lately - everything. Very few important details appear to slip by when he goes on a read, and it’s that sort of eye we need in a moderator as applications and plots move ahead.
So, if you come across one of these two in the cbox - and I’m sure you will - be sure to give them a pat on the back, a congratulations of sorts, and show them the respect and support they deserve moving forward.
The second order of business is the site plot - particularly the events themselves.
There have been a few complaints made and received about how events - and the site plot itself - was unfolding. Being the only staff person really moving things ahead in that regard, those are complaints that only I can really accept the blame for - and I do. In moving forward, I will be stepping back as Event Runner in most instances to allow Ash, Hematos, or whatever member might feel up to the task to go ahead and take a shot at doing so. This is a move I make with the utmost confidence that the community will do its part to ensure we create a story that is inclusive for everyone - without appearing to lean more towards how important any one person’s characters are compared to everyone else.
In that regard, we also have the Vytal Festival. Until a minor hiccup prevented otherwise, we were slated to begin the Festival at the beginning of November (this month), with the Tournament taking up the first half, and the Dance taking up the second. It is, however, too late for that. With that in mind, we will be working to reschedule this event - though it probably will not be until after Thanksgiving, and hopefully be wrapped up before the winter holidays devour everyone’s time. If anyone has a suggestion in the meantime, please feel free to let any of the staff members know via PM or Discord, or even toss it in during a chat in the cbox.
We’ll get there, guys and gals, don’t you worry.
The third - and probably last - order of business for this update is the alternation of some of the systems currently in place on the site.
The first of these is the expansion of the functionality of our Spiritual Dust types - Void and Divine. A rough draft of the former has been distributed among the staff, as well as members that had inquired during the process. A similar write up will be made for Divine Dust, and both of them will be posted for public eye once they are completed and have gone through staff and - potentially - a peer review. We look forward to seeing these extreme Dust types implemented in the characters and plots thus far, as well as those to come!
Second, the revision - and addition - of the Creatures of Grimm. Currently we have a few species of Grimm that are, according to site canon, said to have evolved from the Grimm of Old Remnant (the site term for the series canon). With the release of Volume 4 and information revealed in the RWBY manga, we now know of other types of Grimm we have not included on the site - particularly Grimm such as the Geist and whatever that weird Cthulhu tentacle baby was from the most recent episode. It is with the introduction of these new species that a revision of our current bestiary, followed by the addition of new types of Grimm, will be made as soon as possible.
Lastly, and probably the most important discussion the staff will be having - both among ourselves and with members, is the removal of the Aura Points (AP) System. While it does have benefits in its own way, there have been a few concerns and complaints made about the system - as well as things unrelated that have been observed by the staff over the course of the role play. Taking those things to heart, we will be discussing the complete removal of the system and whether or not a proper alternative exists.
With all that said, I’d like to take a second to give a shout out to our Top Posters as of the time of this update. They are:
Lily Wilde, played by Lily: 182 post
Aegle Vitus, played by Clockwork: 81 posts
Ceyla Regenwald, played by Engram: 74 posts
Runner ups are Ferr Aesir, played by Myth (67 posts) and Dusty Ghrian, played by MrCamm (66 posts).
If there’s anything missing from this update that you think needs addressing, please feel free to reply here! We can have it added to our agenda leading to the next update immediately! :D
Happy role playing everyone!
