It’s the second Friday of September, meaning it’s time for our first update of the month! :D There’s not as much to cover this time around, but what we do have to go over is no less important! >:D
Without further adieu, let’s get to it!
The first order of business is a big internet pat on the back to the participants of our last two events. For those of you who haven’t been keeping up, Episodes 3 and 4 ran simultaneously and - much to my surprise - did very well. Episode 3 ran to page 3, nearing page 4. Doesn’t seem like a lot, right? Well for having only three (and at one point four) players, it did just about as well as Episode 4 did by comparison! The 7 page behemoth that was Episode 4 included almost twice as many characters as 3, so no wonder it did so much more, huh? c:
So where does the plot go from here?
As it currently stands, we are in the midst of that sweet, sweet between-event-free-role play. This is a good chance to develop your characters, make new friends (or enemies), and contribute to the plot of the site without needing to be directly involved with site events. In the meantime, planning for Episode 5 - which will see us participating in the lovely Vytal Festival - is under way! This event will be in two parts - the Vytal Ball and the Vytal Tournament. Everyone will be encouraged to participate, especially students!
If you feel compelled to run some plot events that aren’t tied specifically to our site plot events, please feel free to reach out and we can work with you to make that event happen! :D
Next up is application updates! Right now is the perfect time for members to work on updating their character sheets. It has been approximately 9 months since the Princess ran away from Rift, 5 months since Legion’s hostile takeover of the latter Kingdom, and roughly 3/4 months since the Waters of Life Incident. Any major character changes should be requested via a Revision Thread (the link on how to request a revision will be provided a the end), and if you need a hand filling in some blanks - just ask! Sooner or later (preferably sooner) we’ll have a detailed synopsis of the events written up so the necessary information is easier to acquire without reading through an entire plot thread.
There are a number of things that won’t be completed until the next update, so here’s a quick list of a few key things to expect as we move forward:
- Revised Plot. This will include snippets about the events, more information on our villains, and the like.
- Revised Aura Points. The system as it currently sits has, unfortunately, been a little hard for some people to understand. We will be working on a better revised version of the system that should, hopefully, remedy this problem. Don’t hold your breath, though, we’re not getting rid of it. c: It’s a system in place for a reason~
- Revised Grimm information. How strong are they in comparison to the average Hunter, compared to students? These are important questions that need to be answered, and will be (hopefully) by the time the next update rolls around. Don’t drop a brick, though. We’re not giving them HP and applying stats, we’re just detailing the power behind them to prevent a mere student from crushing some of the boss-tier monsters with ease.
- More revised things lol.
- Thread tagging. A late night idea that, I think, might help people identify the nature of certain threads. This was something that was bounced around a while back, but never got fully implemented. This would involve placing a simple tag in the title of a thread - something like “[PLOT]” or “[EVENT]” to major plot happenings, and thing’s like “[CD]” or “[DEV]” for character development. This is something we’ll have to bounce around and get a feel for with the community.
- Expanding the Team. The more that starts to happen, the more we’re finding ourselves needing that extra little hand in keeping things flowing appropriately. A staff team can only do so much, especially when that team is usually away from the board at the same time (curse you, work!). With that in mind, there is the distinct possibility that if the site continues to grow as it has - and there’s no reason it shouldn’t - that we may need to look into bringing on Community Moderators of sorts. These member’s wouldn’t necessarily be responsible for anything of major staff importance (because that’s our job c:), but they would play an invaluable role in helping guests and new players, as well as assisting in reviews of applications and the like.
Heck, there’s a good change you could wiggle into helping with plot things, depending on how hectic things get to be. In my time running forums, I’ve seen things go from being dead to exploding. It’s very easy to lose grip, so it’s always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared! :D
- Reminder: Be sure to date your threads! A lot of people, staff included (*cough*Eng*cough*), have not been doing this! It’s important that we know when an event is taking place, this way we don’t accidentally do something that forces a retcon of certain events - especially ones that are important to the plot! If you’d like a general idea as to the time the RP currently sits in, feel free to ask a member of the staff - or any active member of the community (since there’s a good chance they’ll know). Eventually, a chart will be in place to make it easy to identify when things are going down - almost like a Calendar System. Lol /cries
And that’ll wrap it up for this first update! Event participants, expect your badges to be distributed tonight (after 6PM CST), and to everyone else - we look forward to seeing you all in the box and in the plot! In the meantime, be sure to respond to the activity check so your characters don’t accidentally get archived!
