★ APPEARANCE
At first glance, the word that comes to mind when looking at Zander Steele is "weirdo". This is likely from the way he presents himself, rather than any factual weirdness. From head to toe, Zander stands about five feet and eight inches tall. Though fashion was never his strong suit, it was easy enough to tell that he adopts an very orderly, formal style when picking what he wore. He feels good wearing uniforms and dressing for success all of the time. He picks very base colors like black, grey, white, and silver because he doesn't lean more or less towards any other colors in the spectrum. That's true even of his genetics, apparently, as his silver-black hair and pure silver eyes leave much to be desired in the fashion department. His hair is always in a state of mess, the short punk-like hairstyle he chose for himself only one of many poor choices, as now it seems to stay untended no matter how much care he takes with his looks. This, combined with his usually pale complexion and adherence to logic and conformity makes him so much less interesting, really.
Carrying himself in a rather lazy, formal way very unique to him, Zander typically has a slightly athletic build, despite the lack of outside activities. This is usually attributed to the amount to field testing he gives his weapon systems. Really, it helps the regal stance, as he is usually perceived to be one of those upturned nose kind of people. He's not, but the duality of his mindset sometimes leaves people in suspicion, and doesn't win him many friends. Gone with the days of both dressing to impress AND trying to give himself a unique style, he left behind the cliche dark trenchcoat, heavy boots, and brooding for the school uniform, which he is super content with and can be seen wearing almost exclusively, even off of campus. He has other outfits, mostly casual shirt and pants combinations for resting in the dorm, or a set of very nice dresswear gifted from his father for special occasions.
★ PERSONALITY
★ HISTORY
Zander was born in Legion, only son to the owner of SteeleTech. The company was responsible for the newest premium military-grade metal components in Vytal. While not well known yet, they featured a metal alloy that was both light and durable, and flexible enough in design to be made into anything from Android chassis to thread. They became moderately wealthy and spent a good ten years developing their techniques until a bigger, more ambitious competitor bought them out. Zander’s father Trace, once a huntsman, had retired to the life of a businessman due to an injury on duty in Pinnacle. He met Zander’s mother on the job, a scientist with a charming, caring attitude towards life and a strong drive both towards pursuing new technology and preserving nature. Though initially focused on the mission, Cassandra soon found that she was saving Trace’s life after a Grimm attack on their base of operations.
With Trace drawn to women of strong character, and Cassandra drawn to Trace’s love for technology without sacrificing nature, they became a couple after doctors determined that Trace’s injuries were permanent. Instead of retiring completely, Trace took up the position of owner of SteeleTech to ensure that his family have means through several generations at least. Zander was born into wealth, but due to his parent’s upbringing he was not smothered in gifts and spoon fed his way through life. He took up studies early, showing early signs of being a quick learner, though a very studious one. Sometimes he tended to overcomplicate the simple answers and shoot right past them.
As he was trained in the sciences, he was also shown the basics of being a Huntsman from his dad. No longer to take up missions of his own, Trace instead took Zander on business trips with him, hiring old teammates of his as bodyguards for trips to the other Kingdoms and making sure Zander got a bit of both his and his mother’s worlds. Perhaps it was the drive to have Zander choose something worthwhile to do with his life without outright telling him what to do, but it seemed to interest the boy, now close to pre-teens and quickly surpassing other children his age in the tech world. He was given an allowance based on his successes, and thus earned everything he had in smaller bites as he grew up, never having access to the family wealth but never being left in the dark.
Zander begun making his own choices soon after, a mix of lust for invention and thirst for knowledge making him put all of his savings towards his own weapon, so that he could one day join Vytal academy like his dad. But he wasn’t satisfied with the first attempt, nor the second or third. It was too base, too simple. Surely other people would have these kinds of weapons, and he wanted his creation to stand out. So he broke down his ideas, melded them, improved upon the base design. On his sixteenth birthday, he spoke to his parents about joining. Though Cassandra was a bit disappointed that he wouldn’t be pursuing the life of a scientist like her, Zan ensured his mother that science was something he could pursue even at Vytal.

★ COMBAT NOTES

Zander’s melee weapon is an heirloom from his dad's days as a Huntsman which he's modified for more modern use.. The sheath of the katana houses many complex components usually seen in modern ranged weaponry, but isn’t a gun. The device actually carries two katana hilts, folded back along the bottom length of the sheath when not in use. The “guard” portion of each katana base houses the mechanism for a grappling system, long lengths of tough SteeleTech-grade metal alloy wire, spooled in a clip system in each hilt. On release of the trigger, the grapnel fires using a pressure cylinder inside the sheath, allowing the user to latch onto objects or people and reel themselves in using the pressure from the launch to quickly traverse distances, or release the pressure to reel themselves in slowly. The sheath interior houses both extra spool clips and pressure cylinders for repair, plus a large number of blade shards. These metal alloy pieces serve as ammunition, as the Katana’s blade is made of them. Activating the sheath itself causes the trigger guards and hilts of the katanas to flip into position, firing the grapnel into the sheath along a predetermined path. The device attaches blades along the tensile wire, sliding into place as the wire retracts from the internal docking port. This action takes no more than a second due to the pressure cylinders, and allows time for the user to grip the hilt properly before unsheathing a fully formed katana from the sheath. The entire device allows the user to wield two blades at once, though they lose the grappling functionality in the process as that was a function of the sheath. But just like most Huntsman weapons, the sheath transforms into a ranged weapon in its own right, a longbow that fires those same metal shards, using the grappling system as the tension and strong for the bow. He typically chooses this weapon for more quiet, subtle missions.
Aoihana
Zander’s own personal invention is the crown jewel, an amalgamation of his previous designs, and comes in the form of an Aura-Energy converter given to him as a parting gift by his mother, which he then repurposed as a battery by inserting it as the “ammunition” for his weapon. The base weapon is not a weapon at all in its passive form, but a conductor. When utilized without no input, it converts any Aura loaded into the device into a form of energy-matter to power the gun, keeping the transmuted substances in a state of constant change. This means that the weapon gets no effects from any type of Aura, but a variety of ways to reload in the process. When utilized, the weapon shifts and unfolds into a pulse rifle, the battery being placed on the underside behind the forward grip. The gun fires semi-auto or fully automatic fire at the click of a switch on the side, has a large reservoir of energy to use as ammunition, and fires essentially plasma at its targets. Because of the nature of the device, however, prolonged use requires venting excess heat, simulating a reload time. Without loading fresh Aura into the battery, the device slowly builds a much smaller charge using air particles and friction inside the conductor. But this small charge is good for only one or two bursts before it must be recharged in its passive state, where the core of the battery is exposed to open air. As a form of alternate fire, the gun can be switched into a CQC mode, the barrel retreating in and splitting on the sides, the battery rising into the main device as it thickens and becomes a lightning cannon. The energy from the battery is constantly drained in this mode, providing a constant stream of lightning from the weapon. This weapon is obviously much better for less subtle missions where carelessness is a must-have.
Shihana
Although an unintended add-on, there is a third, hybrid form that comes from one mind tinkering with two complex weapons at once. Zander’s masterpiece is the form the weapon takes when sheath is combined with battery. In passive mode, the battery charges the metal shards in the sheath, making any katana drawn from the device charged with electricity and red hot, increasing the cutting power of the weapon while the battery has charge. When activated, the device elongates, sheath becoming part of the barrel as it folds out into a railgun mode. Metal shards now housed in the device are supercharged with the lightning gun’s energy waves, spinning in a field of electricity and molding the flexible metal into a thinner, denser needle that is shot from the open barrel at super high velocity. In the event that the user runs out of metal shards, the canon barrel can be closed, condensing the plasma into a beam-like sniper round instead that, while less capable of penetrating Aura-based obstacles and armor, can practically melt its way through physical defenses. This mode is experimental, however, and tends to overhear far too quickly or break the battery entirely, as well as melt all of the stored ammunition.

Zander’s Aura reflects his urge to change the way things are, but also to preserve the balance of things. As such, it is a deep purple, shifting in between a neon and black underglow. It pulses this underglow when active and visible, a testament to how passionate he is about his chosen profession and goals. When passive it feels like you’re inches away from a huge breakthrough or goal, and when active it feels like you’re suddenly wired up and itching to do SOMETHING with yourself. With his Semblance active, this glow bursts from him in crackling lines like purple electricity, surging down him every so often and occasionally across his weapons when he’s channeling his Semblance into them. It’s assumed this is a side effect of his nervous system being flooded with raw energy, and this assumption is carried through into his abilities as well. When that lightning aura envelops him, his aura primes his nerves and muscles, increasing his speed and reaction time. Using his Aura like this costs five(5) Aura per turn.

SEMBLANCE
Plasma Symbiosis
Zander’s Semblance is based on his soul's capacity for both generating raw emotion, or in this case raw energy, and containing it, a feat most assume to be merely a trait of an uncaring youth. In truth, his Semblance is quite unpredictable, and if left unchecked can overflow and cause damage to allies and himself. Using his aura to generate miniature sparks in his nervous system, he turns those sparks into a current that flows throughout and around his body, contained by his Aura. This energy is converted into plasma through the current folding over itself, contained in such a small space, and it is this plasma that he finally has control over, changing its shape, density, and even its state through force of will and the application of his Aura. There are a number of applications that even he has yet to tap into yet, but the simplest use is to provide a defensive barrier or even coat his weapons in plasma for a short time. However, even beginning the catalyst process is a huge drain, and the energy must be contained by his aura else it dissipate, or in larger amounts, be unleashed on an innocent. This is the reason he rarely uses his Semblance, though it has its practical uses. On a basic level, the plasma he generates forces his Aura to appear like lightning jumping off of his body. This can be channeled to produce a blade of pure plasma from a source such as the hand or armguard, when other weapons aren't available. This ability requires five(5) Aura per turn it is used, per arm. Furthermore, the generated aura, while sustained, automatically refills his battery-operated weapon whether in use or not, as the energy is in direct contact with the device. This is his only failsafe, funneling excess energy into his weapon to ensure he doesn't burn out. It also allows for some experimentation, for future additions to his Semblance, should he find more uses for it with acceptable risks. Activating his Semblance costs Twenty(20) Aura, while maintaining it per turn costs five(5). Storing the excess energy doesn't cost anything.
