PLAYED BY HIROKO SEVENTEEN (17) MARCH (03) | FEMALE STUDENT (FRESHMAN) FAUNUS | |
HIROKO MASUYA |
★ APPEARANCE
Despite the fact that Hiroko only stands at five-feet and one-inch (5'1") tall, the student still manages to carry herself with a posture and grace that exude confidence and assurance. While Hiroko was taught that this was meant to demand respect and give off an impression of superiority, it more often than not causes people to see the student as haughty and arrogant. This general attitude of elitism, combined with the fact that Hiroko's figure is far more developed than one would expect from someone of her height and age, leads to Hiroko being mistaken for being older than she is on a quite regular basis. This is not helped any by the fact that her usual attire choices consist of traditional outfits gifted to her by her family. Each and every one of these has the Masuya family crest emblazoned in gold on a regal purple trim on both of the sleeves. The same purple trim exists on the bodice and collar of the outfit, as well as the skirt and the thigh-highs usually worn along with it. The rest of the outfit (with the noted exception of an emerald amulet always seen hanging from Hiroko's neck) is made up of a crisp white; from the flowing top to the pleated skirt and the thigh-length boots worn with both.
Hiroko has been described as being spritely and almost fairy-like aesthetically. Her sharp features and sparkling purple-blue eyes are framed by long and carefully-styled silver hair, worn usually with two hair pins while Hiroko is at school. One of which is a silver cross with amethyst inlays (worn on the left), and the other is a pink rose with a purple bow-tied ribbon that hangs from it (worn above Hiroko's right ear). There is one aspect to Hiroko's appearance, however, that can be off-putting to some people upon meeting her. Due to her faunus heritage, Hiroko sports a snake-like tongue; long, thin, and forked.

★ PERSONALITY
★ HISTORY
Since before Hiroko had even been born, her parents had extremely high expectations of her. The Masuya patriarch and matriarch were very proud of the child they currently had, and didn't talk about the one whom had come first and left. The remaining child, however, was perfect for the two. She learned quickly, she was always polite, and she never once disobeyed her parents. The three of them made up the living members of a family of hunters that had always been Hunters. Not a single member of the family tree had not gone through the training to fight against the Grimm. So, naturally, when Hiroko came around, their demands of her were exactly the same.. even at infancy. From the moment she left the womb, Hiroko was expected to be absolutely perfect on the first try at everything she did.. and anything less would be considered unacceptable.
Try as she might to meet every whim and request of her parents through the years, Hiroko found herself growing more and more frustrated with them (and subsequently herself for not being able to please them) as she grew and learned. Despite what was being hammered into Hiroko's mind on an almost constant basis, there is simply no way for anyone to be perfect, and everyone will have inherent flaws and things they can't do or can't perfect. That is what makes people unique from one another, and the world would be boring otherwise. Despite this fact, Hiroko would not accept that she couldn't do what was being asked of her. Whether she was learning to walk while still a toddler or learning lacrosse while in primary school, she would form a habit of pushing herself until she was physically incapable of pushing any farther trying to master whatever subject activity it was that she was participating in.. despite how ultimately futile that effort might be. Even on the occasions when she succeeded, it seemed as if it was never enough for her parents. They always wanted more, they always wanted her to take it farther.. which is how Hiroko developed her obsession with Dust.
Dust, as a concept, was fascinating to Hiroko from the beginning. The inherent concept of giving something the potential to be more than it would've been otherwise was one that resonated closely with the girl's soul. For whatever reason, Hiroko felt called to study and learn more about the fascinating substance.. and so, behind her parents' back, she did just that, reading volumes upon volumes of books during her early days of training to try and absorb as much information as she could.. so that she could use it to her advantage. The goal in mind? To become a Huntress that would finally earn the respect that Hiroko so obsessively followed after from her mother and father. That singular, driving factor was the fuel with which Hiroko created her weapon.. It provided endurance whilst she trained with her semblance.. And it was the fire in her heart when she applied to Vytal Academy.

★ COMBAT NOTES
WEAPONS
Diamondback:
Hiroko's primary weapon, and a phenomenal example of Hiroko and her family's affinity for Dust, takes the form of a curled up, bladed whip that rests on Hiroko's right hip. This onyx-colored, metal whip has a white handle and a purple gem set into the bottom of the handle. The blades themselves are sharpened to the point of being able to cut or punch through almost any material, but that isn't the real trick to this weapon. The weapon, being roughly twenty feet long, is actually made up of twenty smaller blades. The way that this works is that each of the individual blades were crafted with a powdered form of dust that had been rendered inert used in the creation process for color and shine. The gem in the base of the whip's handle contains a powerful electromagnet that is tuned through a frequency modifier (stolen from Hiroko's father) to home in only on the exact electromagnetic signal of this specific type of non-functioning dust. This allows the girl to recall the blades from anywhere back to her person and back into the whip's shape so long as the blade itself is not destroyed (this provides a potential major drawback as she only has a finite number of blades, and if they are all destroyed she can no longer rely on this weapon in combat).
The magnet itself responds to signals sent through Hiroko's hand into the metal of the handle from the student's brain, meaning that it functions entirely on a telepathic level. This means that Hiroko can constantly change the length of the whip by dropping or re-connecting blades on the fly, using this in combination with her fluid, dancer-like martial fighting style to attempt to confuse opponents. Another significant usage of this weapon's unique composition is that it grants Hiroko a range of combat that she would not otherwise have with a whip alone, as she can detach a blade directly after cracking the whip itself to fling the blade using the whip's motion's momentum, resulting in a jettisoned projectile traveling much faster than Hiroko herself would've been able to throw it.
The major downside to using her weapon this way, though, is that once a blade has been used as a projectile, it cannot be recalled to the weapon until after the fight has concluded, meaning that if Hiroko does this too many times, she will run out of blades to use in the actual whip form of the weapon. Hiroko has been known to use green Dust to amplify the speed with which she can recall blades, throw blades, or crack the whip itself by about 2x, but can only do this up to three times in any given combat encounter.
Spit and Polish:
"Spit" and "Polish" are the names of two modified Ruger LC380 .380 ACPs that are rigged up to thin, spring-loaded, extending arms hidden within Hiroko's sleeves. These discreet weapons are used in a pinch and are normally utilized to surprise an opponent as they would not be immediately visible until they are already within Hiroko's hands. Each pistol has a clip holding twelve bullets, and the .380 rounds would normally not have the greatest amount of stopping power.
However, the ammunition used are specially made, custom rounds utilizing green Dust as a coating for the shells. Since rifling is designed so that bullets spiral in the barrel as they are fired, the air generated by the Dust will begin to spiral as well, creating a high-speed drill-like wind current at the tip of each bullet so tightly compressed that it acts almost like a blade, allowing the bullet itself to punch directly through a good number of defenses as dense as even steel. While this gives the bullets themselves considerable lethality, it doesn't aid with Hiroko's aim, nor does it detract from the opponent's ability to attempt to block or dodge, so whether or not the individual rounds are going to actually hit the opponent is a different matter entirely. The other major downside to these besides the unpredictability of battle is the fact that each bullet fired comes with a two (2) point drain on Hiroko's Aura.
MISC.
Ammunition:
Hiroko carries four spare clips for her sidearms, each holding twelve extra bullets. These are kept in a secret compartment of a bag that Hiroko can normally be seen with, which otherwise is simply filled with cosmetic and school-related items.
Hiroko's aura appears as a pale purple-blue coloration similar to the girl's eyes. While her aura is active, those around Hiroko might feel more confident than they normally would, as her aura gives off a feeling almost like a rallying call, but softer and more subtle. The air will be filled with a rich smell, one that might make someone think of an acquired taste or a bittersweet moment, a smell similar to coffee. Hiroko's only currently possessed Aura ability is that of Illumination, usable only from her fingertips (albeit she can make them shine like a spotlight if necessary) as she has not trained this ability past that point. Using this has an activation cost of four (4) aura points and then a flat upkeep cost of one (1) aura point for every minute it is maintained as it is a fairly basic skill and is used in the least amount of space possible on Hiroko's person.
THE BLUE TRUTH
Hiroko's semblance is this ability which allows for her to exhibit a true command over any given situation by stating plainly and clearly what is true. This takes the form of an energy that will spread over what is deemed as the "battlefield", taking stock of the possibilities and potential outcomes within that space, as well as what could and could not exist within this boundary.
Once this analysis is complete, Hiroko gains the ability to alter the way things are within this boundary by stating something deemed as a "Blue Truth" which then becomes law within the world. For instance, if there were an open box in the room, Hiroko could feasibly say "The Blue Truth is that this box cannot be opened once closed". The box will, from that point until the end of the thread, not open if Hiroko or someone else were to close it regardless of effort from those who might attempt to do so as one cannot simply overpower this magic.
The biggest drawback to this for Hiroko is that she cannot affect living things using this ability. be they others or herself. Hiroko at this point can only have one "Blue Truth" active at a time, and each takes fifteen (15) points of Aura to use due to the strength of the ability itself and another five (5) points of Aura to keep up per minute used. Hiroko can institute a new "Truth" by making another statement, but in doing so will negate whatever effect her previously stated truth had. On top of this, to renew which "Truth" is currently active, Hiroko must also pay the activation cost of fifteen (15) aura points each time the implicated "Truth" is altered. However, she cannot simply do this one after another without end. For every "Truth" used, Hiroko must wait 60 seconds before implementing another one.
