[attr="class","likedotitle2"]CREATURES OF GRIMM
[attr="class","likedoinfo"]Ever since man emerged from the dust, they have shared Remnant with the chaotic force that is the Creatures of Grimm. Of unknown origins, these beasts predate man by an unknown amount of time. They are monsters in the simplest sense of the word, drawn to negative emotions with a desire to eradicate man and consume the world in shadows once again. They were thwarted, however, when man learned to harness the power of their Auras - and as a direct result, the mystical elements that would later be named Dust. With Dust, mankind was able to flourish and fend off the Grimm menace, as they continue to do so to this very day.
The Creatures of Grimm vary in species, but all share common characteristics. They are black in color and share a facial feature reminiscent of a white mask with red markings. In addition to having different species, the Grimm also vary in size. This has led to some studying the creatures to conclude that they do, in fact, reproduce and have a specified lifespan.
It is not known why the Grimm detest mankind, nor why they react with such hostility towards positive emotion. With studying becoming more and more in depth, it is only a matter of time before we finally uncover the answers.
BARGHEST: Evolving over time from the Grimm known as Beowolves, the Barghest are versatile quadrupeds and are far more formidable opponents than their predecessors. The Barghest is able to spray a highly toxic miasma through its nose and has powerful front claws and teeth for easily tearing into the flesh of unlucky victims. What it lacks in speed and mobility it makes up in overall power, most of which is owed to the massive "claw" that is its tail. One fell swoop is enough to knock even the most seasoned Hunters into a daze and leave them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
GRAYLICH: Beasts known as Ursa once prowled Remnant but have since been replaced by the far more terrifying Graylich. These Grimm take the image of large bears, slightly bigger than the Ursa Major of old. They are covered in heavy armor plates and have large spikes that stick out of their back in the direction of their head. They are capable of withstanding great deals of damage, in some cases even shrugging off powerful Dust attacks. Their method of attack generally involves crushing opponents with their immense size, but they have been shown to weaponize the spikes on their backs with deadly accuracy.
DEATHEATER: A subterranean Grimm and successor of the Deathstalker, the Deatheater is a more feared species of Grimm on Remnant today. Shedding their scorpion-like appearance, they evolved into a form more akin to that of a centipede, reaching roughly twenty (20) feet in length. With their many legs, they can impale foes with ease, their powerful jaws capable of snapping through flesh and bone like paper. Deatheaters are also covered in a heavy carapace that makes them impervious to most basic forms of weaponry, making Dust and more advanced weapons (such as those used by Hunters) the only hope against this ferocious foe.
KRAHE: The Krahe, beasts of the sky, are Grimm reminiscent of the long gone Nevermore. They take the form of massive birds, slightly larger than the average man (though “Great” variants of this Grimm exist, being much larger). The Krahe is known for its ability to swoop down at blurring speeds and deliver powerful attacks with its razor-sharp beak and talons. These avian Grimm are also capable of “throwing” their feathers at a target like knives and are even recorded as having the ability to emit a powerful sonic boom when screeching.
NIGHTSTALKER: Similar to the Deatheater in subterranean nature, the Nightstalker is the descendant of the Grimm known as simply as Creeps. Unlike the latter, the Deathstalker is fully developed with arms and legs, appearing similar in form to a wyvern. Much like the rest of the Grimm, they are black in color and have a plated white "mask". Using their claws, teeth, and tail are common methods of attack. However, the Nightstalker has displayed the ability to "breathe" fire, a phenomenon caused by spitting a highly flammable liquid from a special gland in their mouths, which is then ignited by a spark caused by scraping their fangs together.
ARGO: The largest of all the creatures of Grimm, next to the Wills, the Argo is a true sight to behold. Standing sixty-five (65) feet from the ground to the top of their heads, these "super Grimm" are regarded as potentially being the most dangerous of the species. Their massive size makes them not only impervious to most types of damage, but they are also capable of causing mortal wounds with little effort. Their footsteps alone cause heavy tremors in their presence, and being struck by the tip of their tail has been likened to being hit by a heavy tree. Luckily for the world of Remnant, the Argo is completely docile and remains away from human settlements, and will only attack if instigated. Because of this, they are frequently studied to further our knowledge of the Grimm.
TOSEN: Certainly the most violent species of Grimm in the world today, the Tosen is a testament to the sheer killing power the creatures of darkness are capable of. Standing at fifteen (15) feet tall and roughly nineteen (19) feet long, the size of the Tosen makes its brute strength a powerful asset while their razor-sharp teeth (which can poison its survivors) have ended the lives of many of the world's best Hunters. Hard armor make them difficult to harm and they are capable of running at great speeds, a dangerous combination made even more deadly by their ability to camouflage into the world around them. Because of the danger presented, it is often recommended that Hunters only pursue this beast in large numbers.
ELDER TAIJITU: These species of Grimm, serpentine in form and function have undergone much less drastic changes throughout the thousand years of Grimm evolution. In basic changes, the Elder Taijitu have developed a rather more brutal form for their bone-like armor as well as having developed a fume-like venom that dulls the senses and can outright paralyze those unprotected by Aura, capable of spitting this venom great distances. However the most drastic and arguably most terrifying growth the Taijitu have undergone is exactly that; These snake-like Grimm are capable of growing to absurd lengths and heights. Myths and rumors speak of an Elder Taijitu capable of swallowing cities whole. While specialists have yet to identify such a grand-sized Grimm, their sheer size is certainly a presence of its own, often taking several teams of Huntsmen and Huntresses to take on even one.
THE WILLS: Worshiped by cults around the world as gods, the Wills are a quaternity of massive dragon-like Grimm that nest near each of the four Kingdoms. Each of the Wills appears the same, leave for a bio-luminescent shimmer that correlates to their respective element - fire, earth, water, and air - one of the Wills embodying each element. In size, there is no comparison. The Wills were witnessed once many years ago, and according to such records, they are perceived to dwarf even the Argo. According to the most prominent Grimm cultists, it is believed the Wills will emerge from their nests to bring about Remnant's ultimate destruction.
