[attr="class","likedotitle2"]DUST: NATURE'S WRATH
[attr="class","likedoinfo"]Dust is an energy source found throughout the world of Remnant. It’s properties make it versatile for a number of tasks, ranging from powering day to day equipment to granting its user insurmountable power. The name “Dust” was given by early man as a reference to the primordial state from which all mankind was born. To some, it is poetically referred to as “Nature’s Wrath”.
According to ancient legends recounted throughout the world, mankind was fighting a losing battle with the creatures of darkness, the creatures of Grimm. However, through their resourcefulness and ingenuity, humanity managed to discover and harness a naturally occurring source of power they named "Dust", using it to battle and push back the Grimm that sought to return them to the void.
Dust is known as a naturally occurring energy propellant triggered by the Aura of Humans and Faunus. For unknown reasons, Dust does not function outside of the atmosphere of Remnant, eliminating the possibility of space flight.
There are four primary applications for Dust in the world today, and each one is often used differently between different people. When creating your character, it is important to consider what type of Dust they use and to consider the possible ramifications of using it.
Crystal: Crystal Dust is arguably the safest form to use, as it is far less volatile than its powder counterpart. It generally takes the form of one solid shard. is easier to manipulate in order to serve several purposes ranging from powering devices to unleashing powerful elemental attacks. It is Dusts natural form, extracted from Dust mines around Remnant.
Powder: Powder Dust is far more volatile than its crystal counterpart and can be deadly if not handled correctly. It is without form and uncontrollable in large amounts, generally being kept in vials or highly versatile carrying devices, as mishandling can lead to premature combustion. Because of the Dust being in a powder state, it is capable of unleashing far more powerful elemental abilities. Some even ingest Dust of this variety to give them bursts of incredible power.
Liquid: Liquid Dust is a form used for paper and tattoo Dust applications. It is made of a stable, even mix of both crystalline and powdered Dust, allowing it to bless the user with more power akin to the latter while giving them the peace of mind of the former. Ink Dust degrades with use, and as such it requires that it be consistently touched up to retain its power.
Thread: Thread Dust is a new form just hitting the market, which is applied through weaving in clothes or hair. It has a Crystal-to-Powder ratio of 1:3 and allows its user to summon the effects of Nature’s Wrath little to no drawback apart from the usual Aura drain. As with Liquid Dust, Thread Dust degrades with use and requires that it be frequently repaired or replaced to retain full power.
There are four primary applications for Dust in the world today, and each one is often used differently between different people. When creating your character, it is important to consider what type of Dust they use and to consider the possible ramifications of using it. Below are the four primary Dust types.
Fire: One of Remnant’s four main Dust elements, this red Dust allows its user to manifest the element of fire in its many forms.
Earth: Allowing the user to harness the powers of the Earth, this stone colored Dust is another primary element found in the world.
Water: A common primary Dust form found today, Water allows its user to manipulate aquatic forces. Like the latter two, it is fairly common.
Air: Green in color, this final primary Dust type grants its user the power to harness one of the planet’s main forms of energy - the very air. This type generally requires much more skill to utilize correctly, but it is no less as common as the previous three.
In addition to the above, there are different types of Dust one can make by mixing certain types together. Below is a list of mixes that are widely used today. Keep in mind that this list will continue to grow as more applications are discovered!
Energy: This generally yellow Dust is created by merging Fire and Air Dust in a very dangerous yet intimate mix. Often known as Electricity Dust, it is most often used to generate electrical based attacks, though it has recently been used as a step up from traditional orange Dust as a means to power various technology found all over the world.
Steam: By combining the elements of water and fire, one will create the Dust type known as Steam. This variation of Dust has been used for all manner of applications, ranging from combat to recreation, and even first aid in some instances.
Glass: The power of fire and earth merge together to form the element of Glass. This Dust can be used to generate glass-like barriers, platforms - just about any sort of construct a person might need apart from weapons or other more intricate tools. Glass Dust is also used to create simple glass after its elemental powers have been wasted.
Ice: Air and water combine to bring out the powers of Ice Dust. Applications for this Dust type are rather straightforward, following closely in line with the combative use of the Primary types.
Kinetic: A common Dust type found today, Kinetic Dust is purple in color and allows its users to manipulate objects containing it, as well as enhance their kinetic force and velocity. Unlike primary Dust forms and their mixes, Kinetic Dust is completely synthetic.
Gravity: Created by merging Kinetic and Energy Dust, the yellow and violet hues cause the crystals to become a pearlescent black and gives the user the ability to manipulate gravity within a short radius from their body (generally 1-2 feet at the most), though it can also be used at long distances at the cost of more Aura. Gravity Dust is usually used to make heavier items easier to move, such as over-sized swords or incredibly heavy armor, allowing the user to utilize them more effectively.
New to the world of Remnant is the discovery of spiritual Dust types that draw powerfully from the users Aura, only reflective to their truest nature. These Dust types have been shown to be not only highly volatile, but can have different effects on the user and their psyche in different severity. Users are cautioned against using these two Dust elements, and laws have even been passed restricting possession.
Divine: Divine Dust embodies the very light of the world of Remnant, allowing its user to harness all manner of powers ranging from healing to illuminating the world around them (in a much better sense than the Illumination ability of Aura). In addition, Divine Dust has been shown to have relaxing effects on the people using it and those around them, and is often employed by high ranking military members to calm rebellious activity.
Void: The polar opposite of Divine Dust, Void is the manifestation of all the world’s evil. It is currently the only form of Dust outright banned from the Four Kingdoms, but its use is nonetheless existent. This Dust allows the user to harness the powers of death and fear, driving people mad and sapping from their life force in an effort to benefit its user. Side effects of using Void Dust include paranoia (and even schizophrenia), drawing the Grimm to the user, and a variety of other ill effects not yet noted.

- Orange Dust: A type of Dust that ran out of use closely after the founding of the new Kingdoms, Orange Dust was once used to give the world light. Applications today have changed very little since then, with Orange Dust powering archaic technology from mankind's days in the mountains. Some users are able to manipulate light itself, bending light and even creating some temporary weaponized constructs from it.
