❝ | At a glance, we both were falling for this world, enchanted by its light. Could this be the place we finally belong? For all of humanity, I will take the stage alone, and somehow manifest a roaring symphony. We were born for flight before the light of the dawn. | ❞ |
Amber shifted uncomfortably in the seat for a moment, waiting patiently for any kind of response from the man sitting next to her. It was so quiet... What could he be thinking? She looked over at him, observing his facial features for any visual cues that might help her decode what was going through his mind. Her comment on being untrained seemed to pique some sort of interest from the man, but apart from that she wasn’t really sure what to make of him. She nodded in response to his query, observing the quirk of his eyebrow as she did so. “Precisely, never trained,” she said in a matter-of-fact tone of voice.
Returning her attention to the sword for a time, Amber’s thoughts drifted back to the day her father barred her from studying Aura and the Grimm. It had never really sunk in until now how selfish a decision it might have been. Her brow furrowed slightly, but after releasing a hefty sigh, she smiled. She listened closely to the man as he spoke, eventually turning to face him once again. He was right, or so she assumed - the world was not kind to new Huntresses. This was a fact she had considered, but it hadn’t caused her to stray from that desire one bit. She was going to be a Huntress - no matter what anyone else said.
It was the man’s question that truly caught her attention, her eyes widening slightly from the unexpected shock of the words - ”Do you believe in destiny?”
Amber remained silent as he continued to speak, introducing himself as Altimeda Fontine - a name she was familiar with. He was a Huntsman from a long line, a man with two sisters, and a knack for research. Amber had read many publications that he either penned himself or had contributed to. The fact she had bumped into this man couldn’t be an accident - perhaps he was right, perhaps there was more to their meeting than a simple accident.
“I...I do believe in destiny, Mr. Fontine,” she finally replied, shifting in the seat slightly. “I was just talking about it earlier today, in fact.” Hugging onto the sword, she thought for a time, letting silence once again take the vehicle. After finally clearing her mind, she nodded, turning her attention back to Altimeda.
“I don’t know where you’re going, Mr. Fontine,” she said, “But I’d like for me to take me with you, and if you don’t mind, teach me whatever you can. It’s a little too late for me to spend time at the academies now, and I’m not sure I’ll learn much more there than I did in books - not to mention even trying to get into a school would draw the attention of my family.” She held up the backpack she had been carrying, shaking it slightly to produce a metallic chiming. “I can even pay you once all’s said and done, if you’d prefer!” She added before putting the pack away. “So, what do you say?”
