He was silent, and lacking in thought for most of the time that the teacher was walking, save for when she mentioned how some didn't make it back. This spurred a thought that was brief, Did they get lost on the way home? and then she mentioned death. Oh dear. With this, he listened a bit more attentively, saying as the teacher finished," Well, I usually don't go around looking for fights, so I have a feeling that rule of yours won't be too terribly hard to follow." This was delivered with no real change in his tone, though it was slightly worrying that some students from all the kingdoms were lost in that Siege of Greed. It was this thought that made Chrohn feel like he had a few rocks dropped on him. However it was also this thought that infuriated him, though no change was shown visibly. There was a kingdom that basically killed people, regardless of origin, because it was told no.
After a moment, he rose and said with a fairly sharp tone that came out a bit sharper than he intended, "I'll be out with my things in a moment. I'll be back." And he started towards his bedroom, pausing and briefly backtracking towards the couch that he tripped near to pick up his hoverboard, and then proceeded forward once more.
Once in his room he scrounged about, finding his dufflebag and started to pile it full with a few sets clothes, not bothering to save any bag economy, toiletries and a few books based upon the cultivation of flora and astronomy. Once that was done, he paused for a moment. Am I forgetting something? He glanced at the telescope that had its home in the corner. Nah, I don't think I need it. Plus the school might have a few I can borrow, and forget to return. With this he shrugged, zipped up the bag, slipped its handle over his shoulder, grabbed his hoverboard and started towards the front door where Lavender was.
"Alright. I'm ready to go!"

Lavender nodded, turning quickly around and leading Chrohn back towards the city. She had landed in the dock, and she had left the ship to be scoured bow to stern by Legion troops being overly paranoid about a coup. The only reason she had been able to come here had been because, well, Lavender didn't exactly take too kindly to being told no. That and she was a teacher at Vytal Academy, and was well known for being quite insistent about these sort of things. There was a guard who she left paralyzed and being dragged off by his friends to attest to that. "Wonderful. Not much had changed from when you left, but with everything going on recently the city is in uproar and the academy is taking criticism from all sides. Couple that with an increase in Grimm activity and you're going to have your work cut out for you. I believe we still have your old weapons in storage, but with being a year out of practice it may be in your best interest to fully redesign what you wield, or at least modify them in some way. Most of the paperwork is already set up, all you will have to do is sign a few dotted lines." She smirked as they began drawing closer to the city. Under normal circumstances exit from Rift would be a challenge, but not for Lavender. She not only knew who to talk to and what to say to get out easily, but she had the sheer presence to ensure they wouldn't be held up. "Don't worry about any troubles exiting the city. I indulged the Legion soldiers to tearing through my ship, and when we get there we will be taking off. No exceptions, and there isn't a soldier here who will stop me." Lavender turned her head back and smiled, though not one of joy or filled with light and happiness. Her smile was filled with deviousness and cold determination. Her stinger idly swung from where it rested upon her back as she walked, her mismatched eyes giving withering glares to anyone unfortunate enough to be in their path.

He listened as they walked back to the ship. The town looked worse for wear, and from the people that he heard hear and there, there wasn't a specific reason for said result. There were those invasive abusers of power who caused a bit of damage, fights between various "resistance" groups, and then a giant black man. The latter, Chrohn thought, was kinda racist, but people were how they were. And with occasion, as the teacher spoke of things immediately pertaining him, he would nod in understanding. It's weird they still have my stuff, but whatever. It would probably be best for me to start stuff over anyway. I wonder what I need to sign for though. Just a liability waver or something? His thoughts were interrupted by her smile. If she wasn't so terrifyingly intimidating, Chrohn was sure that would be a charming smile, but Lavender was intimidating, and thus her smile had a terrifying air around it. "I'm glad I'm on your side," he mumbled.
For the most part, the walk was quiet, sans the shuffling about them in public and while Chrohn was absolutely okay with this on a regular basis, this silence was still almost eerie. If only the snow wasn't the only thing trying to converse. Maybe a first impression through talking would...no. That wouldn't work as we've already met. Why does it seem that breaking the silence seem near impossible? "So, uh...hrm." He started speaking, but stopped. He had an idea of what would be asked, but forgot as he opened his mouth. "Um, so...what's Vytal's stance on all of this...stuff," Chrohn gestured with his free arm to the attack on Rift," that happened? I figure it'd be a difficult position none the less, because of the...I think infighting would be the word." After this, Crow stopped talking for a little while.
As they walked, Chrohn would occasionally shift the hoverboard from arm to arm. I dare anyone to try and take this from me, legion or not. If they do, because of some sudden regulation that popped up, I hope they are cool with eating dirt for... He derailed for a moment to ask,"Hey Professor Lavender. What time is it?"

Lavender's movements slowed for a moment, her face contorting into a dark sneer at the area around her that Chrohn gestured to. A small, clacking hiss was emitted from her mouth, the strange sound scaring a few people further away from her. Looking back to Chrohn, she sighed and put her head in a single hand, pushing against the top of her nose with two fingers. "Vytal has been forced into an unfortunate situation. Some of our students fought on the side of Rift, some on the side of Legion, but a lot of them fought. This has put the academy as a whole into a strange position as a neutral party, with our students picking sides the four kingdoms expect us to fully support one kingdom or another. The city is in uproar, half of them wanting us to take revenge on Legion, the other half wanting us to help quell rebellion here in Rift. All of them want us to pick a side and just fight." She continued walking, getting close to the airship dock now. Her voice was still dark, and her face was still glowering generally everywhere except Chrohn. "Of course, we can't. We are a neutral ground and to pick a side would forfeit that. We would lose any students who disagreed with our decision, and it would put us at the forefront of a war between the kingdoms. The point of training at Vytal is to fight Grimm, not humans and faunus. Each teacher has their own beliefs on the matter, and none of us are allowed to share them with anyone but each other. As you say, we are in a very difficult position because of this infighting."
Lavender's eyebrow rose quickly when he asked the time, and she pulled out her scroll as she entered the docks. Looking at it, she shrugged and put it away before responding. "About 2:30 now. We should be going, there's a lot for you to do before school starts again." She walked to her ship, one of the smaller ones in the dock, and guarded by two Legion soldiers likely waiting for her return. One of the soldiers saw her approach and waved to her, speaking apologetically to her, and with the smallest hint of fear. "Miss Rose, I'm sorry but we aren't done searching your ship. If you would just wait-" Lavender didn't let him finish. She swung her stinger up and pressed it into his shoulder, the poison paralyzing him quickly as she turned and glowered to his friend. The poisoned guard dropped to the ground, his body becoming completely dead weight as his ability to move stopped entirely "I suggest you go get all your soldiers off my ship. We will be leaving shortly. The remaining soldier nodded quickly and sprinted into the ship. Shortly after six soldiers came out, grabbed their collapsed friend, and ran off. Lavender smiled as they left, turned to Chrohn, and beckoned him to follow as she stepped onto the ship. It was clear she inspired terror in the hearts of those soldiers, and with good reason. She was annoyed with all the politics going on, and the fact that they delay her from what she needed to do just made her angry. Her actions wouldn't shine too bad a light on Vytal, after all she was known for doing things like that across the kingdoms.

Yup, Lavender was scary, but this time Chrohn understood why. A nation was attacked, and everyone was grabbing at a sizable neutral region, basically saying they were the victim or had the potential to be. And then upon arriving at the boat, Legion started to make trouble. Chrohn watched this interaction between two parties with a mixture of awe and terror as his teacher paralyzed a legion guard for doing his job. He wasn't gonna argue though, he had school to get back to.
So cautiously Chrohn stepped over the guard that was now in a paralytic hell, and boarded the ship with his teacher as the soldiers sped out.
Upon entering, Chrohn sat down at the first empty seat he found and waited. What is Vytal going to be like, he wondered. The teacher said it hadn't changed, but everything changes with time. There was also the fact of student interests as well, paired with how everyone he once knew was now a year above him.
