❝ | MY STRENGTH HAS BROUGHT ME FAR, BUT IF I ONLY HAD A LITTLE BIT MORE. MY AIM WOULD BE AN ENDLESS BLUE SKY BOUND BY NO LIMITATIONS AT ALL. AND WHEN TOMORROW REACHES OUT ONCE AGAIN I'LL HEAR ITS BECKONING CALL. | ❞ |
If she spoke her mind, her only reaction to observing Altimeda’s face would’ve been a drawn out sigh. Amber was no fool, she had seen the peculiar mix of worry and confidence on the faces of many people before. They were in a heap of trouble, and although she was sure Altimeda was capable, for him to have to ward out a horde of Grimm on his own was not the ideal course of action. If need be, Amber was prepared to fight. It may have been her first day training, but Cullen had often remarked that “the best way to learn is to just do, until you can.” She never fully understood the phrase, but it had nevertheless proven itself to be true on several occasions. She huffed loudly, furrowing her brow as she sneaked a look out the window.
Then he said what she was expecting - a fight was sure to come. Interesting enough, the words had actually eased her into a more calm state. If they were quick and to the car, it shouldn’t be long. She nodded, indicating her understanding. “Sounds good to me, Altimeda. I don’t wanna be here any longer than we have to.” She said with a dry chuckle. “I’m somewhat hoping we get into town soon. Not that I don’t like your rustic cabins and the Grimm hordes, I just really need to socialize with people.” Her little attempt to lighten the mood with her looking out to the forest once more, then looking in the direction of the car. ’Just a little ways, and we’re golden.’ She assured herself. ’This will be a piece of cake.’ Her hand gripped the hilt of her sword, anticipating the first time she’d get to use it.
She had given little attention to Altimeda getting up, believing that he had just gone to get a better view of the impending battlefield. He was talking, something about another lesson - Hunters and their weapons. Point and click? What an odd phrase, one she had actually never heard before. Her head turned in her companion’s direction, observing the object he had set on the table. She wandered from the position where she leaned against the wall, her eyes scaling the weapon back and forth until her eyes flicked over to Altimeda. “What’s that?” She inquired, her voice chiming with interest. He named off a few of the weapon’s features, to which she grinned pleasantly. It was a gun, of course! How could she have been so stupid?
Following Altimeda back towards the door, Amber tried to prepare herself for the run. Once the door was open, she was to bolt for the car. Remain alert, don’t worry about him - the kind of baloney she figured was typical of situations like this. She was worried, however, about being on her own. If something attacked her, she wouldn’t have him to rely on. With a confident nod, Amber murmured a soft “Mhm.” before the door opened.
Altimeda ran out first.
Amber’s attention focused solely on the car.
It felt like her heart was going to explode.
’Run.’
