PLAYED BY CELIA TWENTY-FIVE (25) SEPTEMBER (09) | FEMALE HUNTER FAUNUS (REDBACK SPIDER) | |
SUSANA ROSSINI |
★ APPEARANCE
Susana, much to her delight, is a person that many do not see as exceptionally beautiful or noteworthy. At best, she can be described as having a sort of endearing sort of plainness to her, with her bob-cut black hair, light complexion, and young features. Her height is average, and though her figure is a bit more mature and shapely than most her age, she's also got a few softer and less muscular spots on her body - particularly the thighs and stomach. That being said, she is reasonably strong and fast despite her relative lack of muscle. Only serving to add to her immature charm, she also wears a pair of wire-frame glasses. However, she is considerably weaker than most hunters her age, and is a bit sickly - but her intellect and tactics more than make up the difference.
As for her Faunus heritage, it manifests in two distinct, but difficult to spot ways. The primary trait she shows is the presence of not two, but eight red eyes, the additional six are smaller and sit comfortably on the outer sides of her normal eyes in clusters of three on either side. Fortunately, she can control them all individually, and often keeps the extra six closed. A clever bit of makeup, and they just look like slight blemishes on her skin. Her secondary trait is the venom she naturally secretes from her canines. It is not lethal in its normal concentration, but it has some considerably debilitating symptoms. It can result in sweating, nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness (sometimes leading to breathing problems), and a dampened sense of coordination. At higher doses or concentrations, it can cause some far worse effects - which is why she implements such a thing in her weaponry.
For work clothing, she usually opts for something comfortable and somewhat warm, that gives her the option of covering her face. Her base layer is an olive green t-shirt that's about a size too big for her, which she also commonly wears to bed, and a pair of black basketball shorts. Over this, she wears a long, hooded zip-up coat that falls just above her knees and is worn almost like a dress, and a pair of black leather gloves. She wears a pair of black socks that stop just below her knees, and a pair of very old, but very reliable faded red and white sneakers. She wears this outfit when she is out on missions at night, or just when she's out in general in the rain or wind. The base layer by itself serves as comfortable sleepwear.
For more comfortable wear, she has a particular set she is also fond of. Around her house, and when meeting friends at home, she prefers to wear a solid black hoodie with no zipper and short sleeves, and a pair of grey capri pants with either some very simple and unassuming sandals, or the same sneakers she uses for missions, depending on where she's planning to go. It gives some decent freedom of movement for activity, and it isn't particularly warm, so she often uses it for outdoorsy stuff as well.
For her actual public outings and more important meetings, she wears what is essentially a high school uniform. It is a white button-up undershirt tied at the collar with a red bow, and a grey overcoat with white cuffs worn on top. Along with it, she wears a ruffled dark storm-blue skirt, a pair of white socks, and some simple and functional brown shoes. Business meetings, client meetings, outings with friends, solo excursions - basically, anything that the other two aren't appropriate for is covered here.

★ PERSONALITY
POSITIVE - Kind - Determined - Hardworking - Courageous - Loyal | NEGATIVE - Naive - Emotional - Holds Grudges (A lot) - Gullible - Loyal (to a fault) |
★ HISTORY
- Susana was born and raised in Setek by her mother, a seasoned huntress, and her father, an inventor that specialized in weaponry. Susana's faunus heritage comes from her mother's side. Her poor eyesight comes from her father, but for some reason only applies to her two "main" eyes.
- Her mother was a member of the Cult of Saint Ash and had been for a while. Her father was not, but accepted his wife's lifestyle, and didn't raise much of a fuss when Susana got involved with it as well. The cult treated them very well, and even gave a history book to Susana as a gift on her 8th birthday. Even in the small subset she was involved in, she was treated well and educated as best they could offer.
- She embraced the cult's ideologies and saw them as a good and just thing, and her loyalty was only further solidified by the approval and praise she got from her mother and the other members. She saw them as family, and wanted to do whatever she could to help them.
- The book she was given detailed the history of hunters and Vytal, and she found it highly entertaining and informative. She talked with her mother a lot about what it was like and, after a bit of coercion, her parents agreed to let her go to Vytal for the full eight years when she was old enough to attend. Her weapons were forged in her father's shop from mostly scraps that would otherwise have gone to waste. They weren't the best, but Susana was grateful for them all the same.
- During her time in school, she met and befriended an upperclassman named Takoda. They bonded over strange things, like their interest in history, and the way they both fought with twin daggers and speed, among many others. "Koda" served as her mentor for much of her time in Vytal, and her first real friend there. Thanks to him, she developed the skill necessary to survive the final two years. They parted ways as she entered her junior year.
- After graduation, she returned home to assist with the Cult's duties. Her mother had since retired from hunting as her age was beginning to catch up with her, and her father was having a bit of difficulty continuing to work because of his developing arthritis. They had plenty saved up to live off of, and Susana was more than willing to take on extra missions to help them if need be, but everything was otherwise just fine.
- Following a bit of mental trauma that Susana experienced after taking her first life in the name of the cause (which also, coincidental;ly, resulted in the destruction of her daggers), she chose to be stationed in Legion - as she could no longer face her family or friends after what she had done. She made sure to re-equip herself while she was still around home, but made it clear she would most likely not be returning.
- After a good while of soul-searching, and continued missions both in the name of the cause, and to make actual money, Susana developed the mindset she has now - the belief that her job is a job that must be done, and that the world must be cleansed as Saint Ash wishes it to be. She will shepherd the lost to their peaceful rest and redemption in the afterlife so that a paradise can be built in from the ruins of this crumbling world.
★ COMBAT NOTES
WEAPONS
Susana is an assassin through and through, and relies not on power, speed, or overwhelming amounts of dust - but on raw intellect and clever tricks. Most of her fights are very one-sided, as she is the only party involved that even knew such a confrontation was coming. With her quiet ranged toolkit, and the deadly efficiency of her melee tactics, Susana is certainly a woman to be feared.
Higanbana is her primary weapon, and is a fairly simple piece of technology. It is a very reliable bolt-action rifle, with a high-power scope and a suppressor, rifled for .308. The barrel, bolt, and suppressor are all the classic tarnished blue-gray of gunmetal, and the stock is a matte black with a black rubber pad on the butt and an intricate pattern engraved along the side and filled with crystallized steam dust, for use in quick escapes if spotted and tracked down. It is also equipped with a folding adjustable bi-pod, for flexibility and comfort in shooting position. Along the barrel, engraved in red, is a single phrase: "Dei morti parla bene." It has a two-point black nylon sling as well.
Sayuri is her secondary weapon, but is arguably the one she is most fond of. As opposed to the sleek, professional, and very impersonal design and function of her primary weapon, it is undeniably a weapon to be used in times of anger or hatred - as even it's name suggests. It is a custom made spring loaded dagger connected to a gauntlet frame and worn beneath the sleeve of a coat, matte black save for the very edge of the 9 inch, double-sided spear-point blade, which is most commonly a worn silver color. With a small movement of her hands, the blade silently slides along it's housing and deploys from beneath her wrist, braced by her forearm. At certain points close to the tip of the blade, it's edge is lined with very small, almost invisible holes that connect to a small system housed further back in the frame. Along the top of the forearm is a small pump, attached to a valve which extends parallel to the arm just before the elbow. This valve connects canisters of her venom, concentrated into poison, and administers it through the blade's holes after it is triggered by a simple finger movement. It is a quite complex piece of machinery that she keeps in fantastic condition outside of her work, and it is very solidly made - the blade barely even moves after it's been deployed. She has two of these hidden, poison-infused blades at her disposal, one for each arm, but usually opts for only one unless she is expecting to run into considerable trouble.
MISC.
For her rifle, she keeps three six-round magazines of standard ammunition, and a single six-round magazine of wind dust ammunition to even further decrease the noise the rifle makes. The gun is capable of firing more...destructive ammunition, but she rarely has need of anything so flashy.
She also keeps six canisters of her own concentrated poison on her person at all times, even in absence of her rifle. Unlike her natural venom, this poison most certainly is lethal, even in small doses. It can more quickly lead to the symptoms of her average bites, but accompanied with respiratory problems, violent coughing fits, vomiting blood, extreme vertigo, and after an amount of time ranging anywhere between 20 minutes to 2 hours, it will begin to result in organ failure. It is to be noted that it can be counteracted with aura mending or antivenom, but unless administered quickly after infection, treatment will only slow the process - not stop it.
In addition to that, she also keep about ten small capsules of powdered glass dust for use in more harmful traps, should she deem such things necessary. They are often rigged to her semblance tendrils and, after being exposed to aura, release their contents and become a cloud of powdered glass, causing all sorts of horrific effects when it is inhaled or gets in the eyes or in more delicate spots on the body.
Though not, strictly speaking, a weapon, Susana also possesses a pair of glasses with lenses made from glass dust. They are meticulously maintained and replaced once a day or once every other day, depending on how much use they saw. They allow her to see across reasonably far distances and get a good view of things up close as well. Unfortunately, she also has them for a reason - without them, she can't see all that well. That, coupled with the fact that they're quite fragile, and it's no surprise that she prefers to opt-out of them and resort to her six fully-functional eyes when she's directly fighting someone.
Stored away is one of her former weapons - a wicked curved dagger, the blade of which has been broken off at about the five inch mark. Formerly, she used a pair of them, but after the loss of one and the destruction of the other, she has been forced to take up other methods of combat. It's a nice keepsake of days long past, and a harsh reminder that a tool is worthless in unskilled and unsteady hands.
Susana remembers one evening long ago, when she sat beside her father on the porch of their small home. It had rained heavily the day before, and she saw a peculiar cluster of flowers growing at the base of a tree just beside the porch. "Father," she said, in her small, frail voice, "What are those flowers? I've never seen them before." Her father gave a deep, earthy chuckle. His voice poured forth like molten steel, smooth, bright, and strong. "We call those spider lilies." She tilted her head at that. 'Spider' lily? Her eyes roved over the odd strings of red petals, and the odd cluster at the center of it all. She supposed it did look a bit like a spider. "Like me? An' mama?" He gave her a pat on the head and nodded, smiling at his daughter. "Do you know what they do, tesorina?" She giggled at the nickname. Hearing the way he pronounced words like, the way he talked to grandma, it always made her smile. She thought it sounded cool. But, she shook her head. She didn't really know what a flower could do. Her father turned back to the cluster of strange red flowers and let out a soft sigh. "When people move on from this world to the next, they find themselves faced with a river that they must cross before they can reach their resting place." He picked one gently and gestured for her to come closer. With the practiced hands of a tinkerer, he wove the flower into her hair, and it sat just above her ear. "Red spider lilies grow on the bank of that river, to guide the good people towards their rest." She smiled up at him in awe, as if this knowledge was the most valuable thing she'd ever been told. The flower felt cool against her skin, and she reached up to brush her hand against it. The petals felt odd against her fingertips, almost silken smooth. Her father gave her a pat on the head, and they shared a laugh. And then...and then...
She can't remember.
Like the fading of a cherished but old memory, Susana's aura has a bittersweet sort of feeling to it, despite being practically imperceptible in terms of actual color or form. This is usually found in familiar scents or sounds, perhaps even flashes from childhood. These are never bad memories, nor are they really the best moments of one's life - they are small, tender moments with loved ones, or perhaps moments of peace in solitude, that remind you of better times. Occasionally, if she flares her aura, red spider lilies will bloom in her wake, only to wither and die when someone tries to touch them. Anyone other than her.

STRINGS OF FATE
Susana's particular semblance is a bit of an oddity, as it's value as an offensive or supporting tool is actually very low. At best, it can be used in a utility capacity - and even then, it's only really effective when used ahead of time. In a similar fashion to Susana herself, Strings of Fate relies on careful planning and execution prior to an encounter, as opposed to split-second decisions in the heat of battle. From her blood, she can create thread-fine tendrils with spiked tips and considerable strength. She can launch them if need be, and has an incredibly fine measure of control over them even in large quantities, so much so that they can almost function as, essentially, extra limbs. In addition to use as a minor inconvenience and distraction, they can be used as tripwires, additional balance or suspension, they can be woven around in specific areas to serve as a personal alarm system, and Susana is still coming up with ways to utilize it fully.
On the downside, it has an extra limiting quality in addition to her aura usage - she only has so much blood she can spare. While the tendrils are fine and strong, she can't make a great amount or length of them at a single time because it will use up far too much of her blood. Though she can retract existing tendrils and recycle them back into her bloodstream, in the end, she can only make about 30 yards worth of blood tendril before it begins to affect her ability to properly function.
