★ APPEARANCE
The first words that may come to mind while looking at Xanthia are "smallish" and "bulky". Towering, if the word can be used in such a context, at 1,65m (or 5'5" for those living in the US, Liberia and Burma), the fact that she carries herself high and straight makes her seem a bit bulkier than she really is. She took her facial features from her mother: slanted eyes, a small pointy nose and a roundish face. She however inherited her father's dirty blonde hair and piercing green eyes as well as the overall lightness of her skin. She likes to keep her hair long and tied in a high ponytail but cuts her bangs around her eyebrows' height as to not impair her vision during action.
Tattoos run up the length of her arms in interweaving waves of black inked tribal patterns that cross between her shoulderblades (shaping a heart in the middle). On her left forearm though, she bares the Meidio "family insignia": a fiery orange colored skull draped in tribal flames. Xanthia does not sport any scars or other visible body marks (she does have a star shaped birthmark on her left shoulder but few people know about this since it’s covered by her tattoos).
Even though her posture may fool you to think otherwise, her limbs are actually quite slender. The secret though, is that they're mostly made up of muscle mass that has been carefully monitored, toned, trained and sculpted to have as much strength and sturdiness as the muscles of that guy in your local gym that can't scratch the top of his head.
Clothes-wise, her main dress code is composed of a tank top with military-grade cargo pants with camouflage patterns ranging from the regular olive green to the gray and red one without dismissing desert, urban and arctic prints. She never wore a shoe that was not a ranger boot or similar since she was 8 years old.

Xanthia's story would be considered uneventful by some sort of fantasy game's standards but spectacular by regular human standards. The story starts in Legion, in a middle-class family. Great-Grandpa was a decorated high ranked officer, Grandpa is a decorated high ranked officer, Daddy is a Decorated ranked officer and has six sons who are rapidly going up in military ranks through feats of strength and leadership. And then came the seventh pregnancy which yielded a little blonde haired, green eyed little girl. The first female named Meidio by birthright for at least 4 generations.
Named Xanthia for the color of her hair, she was to be daddy's little princess... but destiny had other plans. Like the brothers and uncles and forebears, she wished to undergo a military career. She said so at a young age and made her father proud but reluctant. In his eyes, women were frail and beautiful beings, not designed for the harsh violence of the battlefield. Sure he saw female soldiers all the time but, damn it, they weren't his little girl!
The exercise regimen started early, on the morning of her ninth birthday, in the goal of transforming the little girl in an adorable little soldier that would be shipped to Vytal as soon as she becomes of age. Four years of rigorous training (which she loved, if you're wondering) to build up her strength without impairing her natural growth, her endurance and her reflexes. In her first year, she quickly received the title of "Tomboy that makes boys cry" and developed a certain passion for close quarters combat. Her weapon type of choice was long-bladed knives which she used primarily as shield against weapons to give the other party a knuckle (or sole) sandwich. She pursued her classes up to the completion of her Hunter training as a member of a team of hot blooded, good for nothing, expendable bastards that had received the inglorious name of EXPL.
During her second year, shortly after picking up the nasty habit of tobacco smoke inhalation, she met another student who had a similar background and multiple interests in common with her. They got acquainted, started hanging out and eventually going out. After two years of relationship and also to celebrate both of them passing over to Hunter Classes, they got hitched. Nothing big, a cheap little ring, in front of the rest of the school with their assortment of teammates and parents present.
It's during Hunter training that Xanthia learned to manifest her aura, with much difficulties at first but quickly got the hang of the defensive part of Aura training. The other options... not so much... But defense was good enough. Being a knife wielder, she always fought very close to the opponent and she quickly integrated defensive Aura manipulation as an offensive defense. Hardening body parts to mitigate hits, creating small shields to deflect weapons her blade couldn't block and other things along those lines.
And then came the Semblance. Unintentionally at first, people would find out that some of her hits would pack way more punch than others or that they'd just feel the force of their hits vanish before touching her. Her boyfriend sometimes found he could lift her up with ease or couldn't budge her if she didn't want to move. It was quickly noticed by the teachers who trained her to manifest the power at will and have it affect objects other than by reflex. Needless to say she loved the ability and used it as much and as often as she could to be sure to have complete control over it.
Another gift came at the end of their final year and was probably tied with some post-graduation fricky-frack: a daughter. She had mommy’s icy green eyes and daddy’s auburn hair and was dubbed Autumn.
The happy new couple, or rather trio, moved back to Legion following the graduation so Xanthia could start her military career. Two years later another little girl saw the light as a spawn of Xanthia and this one sported the dirty golden hair and clear grey eyes and was named Summer.
Sadly, things got a little rough between Mommy and Daddy and shortly after Summer’s first birthday, the couple decided, of common accord, to a non stab-in-the-back-I’m-taking-the-dog divorce in good terms. Daddy took main custody of the girls because Xanthia’s service didn’t allow much time with the kiddies but she still got to see them every two week-ends. The father moved back to Rift while she remained in Legion.
Xanthia was eventually graded Sergeant and was given care of a group of 8 soldiers at an advanced outpost in the wilderness outside Legion. Their shift there was to be 6 months long and pretty uneventful; the outpost being mainly a sort of truck stop for other groups heading for the more advanced bases. It was a shit job but it was easy and paid well. Spending 6 months with the same 8 guys, being the only female AND the superior NCO was a bit of a drawback in the first few weeks but after acquainting each soldier with the ground in a very intimate relationship quickly dissipated any kind of insubordination and sexism the guys may have tried.
Believe it or not, call it cliché even, but on the very last day of their 6 month sift, while waiting for the relief that was going to arrive in six hours (the outpost being roughly at a 7 hours drive from the nearest one since it was a peaceful sector), they were attacked.
In the afternoon, they were having a heated argument about who was the superior being between the Xenomorph and the Yautja, all for laughs of course. A glare caught the Sergeant’s eye and reflexes kicked in, she screamed at everyone to get down and dived on the nearest soldier milliseconds before a bullet-shaped hole appeared where his head would’ve been.
Bandits.
It was 20 against 9. They managed to thin out their numbers without any casualties and hold out until the reinforcements arrived. After careful sweeps of the area and after the alert level came back to normal, Xanthia sagged down against a wall. She was dirty, exhausted and so glad that her shift was over in a couple minutes. She lit a cigarette and saluted nonchalantly when her CO arrived.
He mocked her for smoking on the job and congratulated her on her leadership and levelheadedness during the crisis, managing to keep every single one of the young soldiers unscathed. To that she merely replied “They were my little boys, Sir.” as she requested this final smoke.
“Final?” asked the Captain.
“My girls asked me to stop smoking, Sir. Since we could’ve almost kicked it today, I figured I’d thank whatever higher being, if any, gave me the chance to go and see my daughters after 6 months in the outback.”
Xanthia got up and brushed the dust of her uniform and saluted smartly this time, stating she had enjoyed the time passed in the Legion army but the five years of her enlistment contract were over in the following weeks and she will not be signing a new one because she wanted to be closer to her two little angels. The Captain was surprised. Xanthia had been a model soldier, an amazing Sergeant and could’ve easily became a CO early but… He saluted back.
Coming back to Legion with her big bag on her shoulders, she was greeted by two child sized ballistic missiles to the face. She laughed and whirled and squeezed her daughters in her arms explaining that Mommy was coming with them to Rift.
The paperwork was filed, the money was given, the stuff was packed and the house was purchased. Small, quiet and more importantly, close to her ex’s home, she would be able to spend time with the kiddies every other day. The problem was finding a job. There aren’t much openings for an ex-military tomboy chick who’s only skill was hitting people, shooting other people and barking orders and sarcasm. But Rift was a Kingdom of opportunities and realizing Vytal was close, she remembered that, well, shit, she had been trained and qualified as a Hunter! She would simply register back as a Hunter and be back on on service as a protector of humanity!
And so, in short, she has been fighting Grimms and trouble with a Smile for the past 3 years and taking week ends of to play Super Mom.

★ COMBAT NOTES
WEAPON - Smile
Smile is a specially made, custom tonfa-style nightstick. The shape and size are comparable to Legion's Military Police standard truncheon. This isn't simply a non-lethal pacification countermeasure however: this is the weapon of a Huntress who likes it up close and personal. From tip to tip, in its basic form, Smile is 30 inches long, and made of a special tungsten and steel alloy, which is then covered by 7 layers of para-aramid synthetic fiber (akin to Kevlar) that has been specially treated to mitigate Dust effect damage.
What controls the weapon is the handle, which is shaped like a reversed handgun grip, and looks like a remote detonator. Three triggers control the various mechanisms that this weapon holds. The main trigger is located on the middle finger position of the handle. This trigger controls a large ball-bearing located in the joint between Smile's handle and its body. Once depressed, it "unlocks" the weapon's body and enable it to be spun without having to release one's grip on the handle. The trick to this is in the wrist. This enables quick changes between an offensive and defensive position. When released, the weapon's body will re-lock itself automatically when it comes back to its default idle position.
The second trigger is activated by the index finger, and also serves as an mechanical enabler. The tonfa's body can break down in smaller components and form a long, blunt, and brutally vicious chain. A press of this trigger is what turns the larger part of the stick into a 3 meter (9,8 ft) whip. Releasing the trigger winds the chain back into a stick.
The smaller part of the tonfa's main shaft is outfitted with a bolt-action loading mechanism which offers the possibility of inserting Dust cartridges into the weapon. This is where the third trigger comes into play. Activated by the thumb, it unleashes a load of Dust into the weapon's main shaft. Through an intricate system of small vents and spaces between the compressed links of the weapon, the loaded dust can be activated to imbue Smile with elemental properties. In it's stick form, the weapon will distribute Dust upon successful hits to create a small elemental explosion, which adds some kick to the impact. Usually, about 10 hits can be delivered by cartridge before it needs to be replaced.
When the Dust is released into the Smile when in whip mode, it travels along the length of the chain in a manner resembling a detonating cord. Small elemental explosions will run along the full length on the whip. When used in this fashion, the Dust cartridge only triggers once, but with devastating effect. Xanthia uses this function after constricting a foe with Smile's chain for maximum damage. When used with a partially used Dust load, the effect will be significantly weaker.
MISC.
Other than Smile, Xanthia usually leaves for action with a military-grade harness composed of two belts that can carry 6 Dust cartridges each and four pouches. She normally has four of the following Dust types: Fire, Ice and Energy. The pouches contain handmade Dust “Grenades” - Two Steam, one Glass and one Air are her normal payload. She also carries a tactical flashlight depending on the situation which is solid enough to serve as a makeshift nightstick if the need arises.
You know this cool and fresh feeling you get when chewing mint? The turquoise-colored aura that shines from Xanthia expands this smooth and refreshing feeling around her. Like a nice breeze on a hot summer day, it helps you focus on the task at hand and soothes your nerves, easing the stress of the day.
However, freshness can turn to cold and cold can be deadly. As temperature decreases, the air becomes more and more icey. It numbs your fingers, bites your skin and gives you unpleasant chills. You start to lose mobility, your nerves stop functioning. You can’t feel your limbs. The cold gets so strong, the temperature gets so low it comes back the other way and starts to burn. Your skin feels like it’s on fire and the more it hurts, the colder you feel… until you fall asleep and freeze.
Fear the cold for it fears nothing. Just as Darkness is merely the absence of Light, Cold is merely the absence of Heat. And just like Light always finds Darkness ahead of it wherever it goes, so does the Heat fights the cold but knows it’ll never win.
Xanthia’s aura is simply the refreshing feeling and smell of mint… but it protects a sleeping blizzard. Do not wake it up.
In terms of Aura skills, Xanthia never really got the hang of them. In fact the only one her teachers ever acknowledged she mastered were defensive related abilities such as creating small shields close to her body (3) or a large one (7) after assuming a defensive pose, able to manifest them almost instantly. Mending (15) came second but she can’t concentrate enough to activate it during battle, even while there’s a short ceasefire. It has to wait after combat. She manages physical enhancements (20) but seldom use them since her fighting style doesn’t offer time for preparation. the fourth skill she learned was Illumination (30) which she only used once since… you know… a tactical flashlight doesn’t use much space.
THE HEAVY
The desire to impact the world around you but not to stand out. To be nothing special, not a hero, simply another face in the crowd, a normal person that fights for the safety of the world you love. This is what gave birth to Xanthia’s semblance. She can alter her weight, or the force of her existence some might say, as she pleases. Make herself as light as a feather, or increase it to up to five times her normal weight. She uses it to keep high mobility and drop down like a ton of bricks on the enemy. She augments the presence of her fist or her foot as she punches or kicks to increase the force of impact. She grabs someone and puts them in an arm-bar and just becomes a 600 pounds living lock. or simply jumps and runs with minimal gravity influence.
What makes it spectacular is that Xanthia can transpose this ability to objects that are within her arm’s reach to, say, pick up a relatively large stone with ease… or decrease the impact force of a incoming hit. This ability goes well with her fighting style which is up close and personal and based on a strong defense. The sad thing is the fact that she can only affect one object at the time and needs to be focused on it for the control to be maintained.
She uses her semblance quite a lot for a lot of reasons, usually in short burst (15) to, as mentioned above, hit harder or mitigate enemy hits. When used on her whole body, she can maintain it effortlessly for extended periods of time (25 / 15 mins).
When used on items though, maintaining the ability for more than a few seconds increase the aura cost exponentially (up to 60% of her total aura for really heavy objects). This doesn’t apply to Smile as the tonfa has been specially treated in it's fabrication to work in tandem with Xanthia's Semblance and allows her to use the ability as if the weapon was simply an extension of her body. It is to be noted that the semblance doesn’t affect items outside of her range which is roughly her arm’s length. If the object is larger and part of it is outside the effect range, only what is inside the field of effect will be affected (in other words, she can’t pick up cars and throw them like paper planes).

However, freshness can turn to cold and cold can be deadly. As temperature decreases, the air becomes more and more icey. It numbs your fingers, bites your skin and gives you unpleasant chills. You start to lose mobility, your nerves stop functioning. You can’t feel your limbs. The cold gets so strong, the temperature gets so low it comes back the other way and starts to burn. Your skin feels like it’s on fire and the more it hurts, the colder you feel… until you fall asleep and freeze.
Fear the cold for it fears nothing. Just as Darkness is merely the absence of Light, Cold is merely the absence of Heat. And just like Light always finds Darkness ahead of it wherever it goes, so does the Heat fights the cold but knows it’ll never win.
Xanthia’s aura is simply the refreshing feeling and smell of mint… but it protects a sleeping blizzard. Do not wake it up.
In terms of Aura skills, Xanthia never really got the hang of them. In fact the only one her teachers ever acknowledged she mastered were defensive related abilities such as creating small shields close to her body (3) or a large one (7) after assuming a defensive pose, able to manifest them almost instantly. Mending (15) came second but she can’t concentrate enough to activate it during battle, even while there’s a short ceasefire. It has to wait after combat. She manages physical enhancements (20) but seldom use them since her fighting style doesn’t offer time for preparation. the fourth skill she learned was Illumination (30) which she only used once since… you know… a tactical flashlight doesn’t use much space.
SEMBLANCE
THE HEAVY
The desire to impact the world around you but not to stand out. To be nothing special, not a hero, simply another face in the crowd, a normal person that fights for the safety of the world you love. This is what gave birth to Xanthia’s semblance. She can alter her weight, or the force of her existence some might say, as she pleases. Make herself as light as a feather, or increase it to up to five times her normal weight. She uses it to keep high mobility and drop down like a ton of bricks on the enemy. She augments the presence of her fist or her foot as she punches or kicks to increase the force of impact. She grabs someone and puts them in an arm-bar and just becomes a 600 pounds living lock. or simply jumps and runs with minimal gravity influence.
What makes it spectacular is that Xanthia can transpose this ability to objects that are within her arm’s reach to, say, pick up a relatively large stone with ease… or decrease the impact force of a incoming hit. This ability goes well with her fighting style which is up close and personal and based on a strong defense. The sad thing is the fact that she can only affect one object at the time and needs to be focused on it for the control to be maintained.
She uses her semblance quite a lot for a lot of reasons, usually in short burst (15) to, as mentioned above, hit harder or mitigate enemy hits. When used on her whole body, she can maintain it effortlessly for extended periods of time (25 / 15 mins).
When used on items though, maintaining the ability for more than a few seconds increase the aura cost exponentially (up to 60% of her total aura for really heavy objects). This doesn’t apply to Smile as the tonfa has been specially treated in it's fabrication to work in tandem with Xanthia's Semblance and allows her to use the ability as if the weapon was simply an extension of her body. It is to be noted that the semblance doesn’t affect items outside of her range which is roughly her arm’s length. If the object is larger and part of it is outside the effect range, only what is inside the field of effect will be affected (in other words, she can’t pick up cars and throw them like paper planes).
