SHIN TATSUYA |
★ APPEARANCE
Shin is a young man, built lean and standing at 5'6". He has fair skin, straight black hair, and red eyes that are often seen staring into the middle distance, evidence that he is often lost in thought. He has a tendency to dress in black and red when he isn't wearing his school uniform. His most common outfit consists of a long red button-up shirt, a black tie, a pair of black slacks with a leather belt, combat boots, fingerless leather gloves, and a black mid-rift jacket with a fuzzy trim. In winter he wears a long, heavy black coat with large buttons, black wool gloves with black leather palms and finger pads for grip surface, a black and red striped scarf, and occasionally a black hooded cloak with a pin in the shape of his family's crest, a barghest mask with a crescent moon carved into the forehead.
★ PERSONALITY
★ HISTORY
Shin Tatsuya was born in a small village on the continent of Anima, just outside the kingdom of Pinnacle. He grew up in a happy, loving home with his little sister, Hana, who was a year younger than him. When he was seven, though, the village was set upon by creatures of Grimm. Shin and Hana escaped into the forest after their parents died defending them, where they were rescued by a Huntsman who, along with his partner, brought them and the other survivors to the safety of Pinnacle.
Shin and Hana were put into the Cela Orphanage in Pinnacle, and after only a month, the Hunter that rescued them came back to adopt them, acting as their guardian and father figure for years to come.
The next five years passed without incident, and with the Hunter as their adopted father and mentor, Shin and Hana lived a normal life once again. Then, one tragic day, their adopted father was killed in action while answering the call of duty as a Huntsman. With their parents dead and their legal guardian KIA, Shin and Hana were left with few options and much grief in their hearts. The Huntsman's partner, having survived the slaughter that killed his partner, took care of the kids and brought them to Rift so they could be safe and close to Vytal.
A few months later, Shin began his first underclassman year at Vytal Academy with the intention of becoming a Hunter. He didn't want anyone else in his life to die, especially not his sister, so he wanted to become strong so he could protect everyone. With that goal in mind, he went through the required four years of training at Vytal Academy before beginning his Freshman year, where he met Max, Ushio, and El, and together the four of them became a team.

★ COMBAT NOTES
WEAPON: Catharsis
Large, segmented sword with a Dust revolver mechanism in the hilt. Using electromagnetism, the revolver can coat the blade in powdered Dust for elemental attacks, expending half a tube of Dust per charge. This is activated via a trigger attached to the grip. A hand guard extends from the hilt just below the edge of the blade. The Dust tubes can be replaced by partially ejecting the revolver piece. The revolver is able to hold up to 7 tubes at once, providing 14 charges before a total reload is required.
The sword is able to change into a scythe by curving the blade, using the segments to stagger the blade into a crescent, with the cutting edge being on the outside while the flat edge becomes the inside of the curve and emits a plasma blade, bound by magnetism, to form the new cutting edge. The grip extends into a pole that serves as the handle of the scythe. Due to this design, the Dust coating properties usable in sword form are unavailable in scythe form.
It can also become a plasma rifle, but only from sword mode first. To accomplish this, the blade folds back along the flat edge at the base of the second segment from the tip, revealing a pair of hidden plasma emitters. The grip folds and the hand guard extends and folds down to become a stock, allowing for stability and accuracy while firing. This plasma rifle, as well as the plasma blade of the scythe form, are powered by an energy Dust crystal, stored in a chamber built into the hilt, isolated from the Dust revolver chambers to avoid interference. This crystal must be changed once a month, assuming regular use.
Elemental Attacks - One use per charge, 2 AP per charge used
Fire: Causes a small explosion at the point of impact. The force of the explosion prevents a follow-through, meaning Catharsis cannot cut while using this element.
Earth: Creates a line of stone spikes that jut up from the ground. Can only be used by striking the ground, and the line of spikes begins where the sword hits, traveling in a straight line up to 20 feet in the direction that the back of the blade was facing.
Air: Causes the blade to produce a blade-like gust of wind with each swing that travel in a straight line following the shape of the blade, but the wind blade loses power with distance so it is best used at close range.
Energy: Electrifies the blade and allows slashes to produce a wave of plasma that travel up to 20 feet before dissipating into the air. Electrocutes whatever the blade cuts through, assuming it is not an insulating material. Does not rely on the energy Dust crystal that powers the plasma rifle or plasma scythe.
Ice: Can snap-freeze whatever it impacts at the point of impact, usually creating an outward blossom of ice after the blade releases contact. Ice thaws quickly and is useful for creating temporary weaknesses in hardened targets, such as armored Grimm (last one turn).
Kinetic: Amplifies the force of impact by a factor of 3 (force of impact x 3). Causes more crushing damage than cutting.
Gravity: Temporarily doubles the force of gravity on whatever the cutting edge of the blade strikes. Often used to stun opponents. (Lasts one turn.)
MISC.
- Spare powdered Dust tubes
- A pocket watch with a picture of his sister inside
- Holster/sheath for Catharsis, strapped to his lower back (like that metal plate seen on Ruby's lower back)
Shin's aura is crimson, the color of blood. Like blood, his Aura feels hot at first but cools over time, reflecting the loss of his happy days with his parents and the loss of his mentor. His Aura even gives off a slight scent of copper when he's stressed. Despite this, his Aura feels comforting and passionate.
- Defensive Enhancements: Shin's aura is able to form a protective barrier, allowing him to take hits he normally couldn't. (2 AP)
Delta Stream
The power to protect someone is useless if you can't make it in time. The desire to rush to the aid of those in need is what gave birth to Shin's semblance. Delta Stream allows Shin to channel his aura in order to move with incredible speed, in multiple ways. When his Semblance is active, his aura is clearly visible around his body as a blood-red outline that leaves a trail of light when he moves.
- Sonic Strike: Able to channel aura into a momentary burst of extreme speed while already moving to reach mach 1.3. Used to add major impact to a strike or to dodge an attack and (hopefully) escape unwanted combat. A landing strategy is required to stop since momentum is still a thing. (10 AP per use)
- Delta Guard: Channels aura into Shin's muscles to greatly increase his reaction time for a moment, allowing him to move his arms at 3x normal speed. Usually used to block an attack that is too quick to dodge, hence the name. Unfortunately it is possible, and easy to overcompensate with this technique, which can be... bad. (10 AP)
- Bloody Stream: Shin cloaks himself in an opaque cloak of aura and dashes through the air at a top speed of approximately 170 meters per second continuously up to a minute, though the stresses of combat limits it to 30 seconds in a fight. At speeds of over 100 meters per second, he has to stop and dash again to change directions, leaving him momentarily open to attack. (5 AP per dash)
