Ceyla Regenwald / Coquel Nattier |
★ APPEARANCE
Ceyla is a fair-looking young woman, standing roughly five feet and four inches tall. She is of slender body tone, a physical condition she is intent on keeping by means of a very strict training regiment. Her hair is blonde and usually allowed to flow down to the center of her back while her bangs hang just over her eyes. Occasionally she will wear it up in a ponytail, which hikes the length to being just between her shoulder blades. Though she never knew her father, she inherited his piercing red eyes, which earned her the name “Red-eyed Maiden” since beginning her criminal career in Atlas.
Though one would not know it looking at her, Ceyla is also a Faunus, inheriting the red panda traits of her mother. This is only noticeable if one catches glimpse of her slightly pointed cuspids as she does not display ears or a tail, the latter being surgically removed in an experimental procedure funded by the White Fang with the intent of slipping their agents into positions Faunus generally would not be able to secure due to the lingering racial tension between the races of Remnant.
★ PERSONALITY
★ HISTORY
Ceyla Regenwald (also known as Coquel Nattier) has never been able to trace her origins, relying instead on the sole testimony on the man she now accepts as her father. What she does know is at a young age she was brought to the Monastery of Cela by her mother, who told the man that she couldn’t care for the little girl and was seeking a place where she could be left and raised properly. The Monastery was no orphanage, he told her, but proposed that he take the girl and raise her as his own. Cautious at first, the mother handed the child over - and that was the last the girl ever saw of her again. This would have little influence on her growing up, with the absence of memory replaced with an upbringing that paled in comparison to anything she would have gotten otherwise.
From early childhood, the man - named Renault - recognized a great deal of potential in the girl. From what he gathered from investigating her birth parents, she came from a mother who’s entire family had been bakers. Nothing special there. Her father, however, was a Huntsman with a slight degree of infamy for his violent tendencies. He was powerful, young and reckless, using his gift for both good and bad. With her father walking the fine line between light and dark, Renault feared that Ceyla would be doomed to the same fate. It was at the tender age of seven that Ceyla was placed in Cela’s Aura classes. If all went well, she would serve as a priestess in the Monastery, far from the negative influences of mankind.
As she grew older. Ceyla displayed a love for history and an affinity for swordplay, despite Monastery training emphasizing the use of staffs. It was through these frequent displays of sword preference that Renault concluded to gift Ceyla with a sword given to him by his father - Daedalus. It was a remarkable weapon, one that Renault was positive she could wield with a great deal of proficiency. At that time, the only issue was she was far too small to use the weapon in its full form. This was remedied, however, and Ceyla began training in the art of swordsmanship rather than in the use of - as she now calls them - “mediocre beating sticks.”
The unlocking of one’s Aura was commonplace on their first day of Monastery training, and Ceyla was really no different in that regard. She trained, like all the children of Cela, in the various arts of Aura mastery and its application to Dust. While she wasn’t the best with such power, she certainly was not the worst. This never discouraged little Ceyla, it instead pushed her to try harder, yielding only positive results. During her third year of Monastery training, she discovered her Semblance - while in her sleep. A nightmare had come upon her, causing her to break out into a horrific fit that didn’t cease until a powerful sonic boom emitted from her person. This experience was accompanied by a dark figure in her dream, one she named “Gallows” - thus becoming the name she gave to her Semblance.
After completing her Monastery training, Ceyla said her goodbyes to her friends, who had grown to be the only family she ever knew. Renault was torn to see the closest thing he had to a daughter leave his side, but a promise from the girl to someday return was enough to ease the aging man’s heart. Packing her things, Ceyla made her way across the many Kingdoms, taking the name “Coquel Nattier” for paperwork. During her travels, she found herself taking on mission after mission at the beck and call of the respective Kingdoms’ leadership. Eventually, she found her way to Menagerie, and it was here her entire life changed. The White Fang had organized on the lone continent, and while she felt a sense of unease at their presence, being alongside her own kind was almost all that was needed for them to convince her to join the group.
That wasn’t all that happened, though. To ensure her undying allegiance to the Fang, Ceyla was subject to numerous methods of torture. She was beaten down, then built up, only to be beaten down as to allow the cycle to continue. This did little to break her spirit, but upon threatening the safety of her home, Ceyla broke under pressure and agreed to join the organization. Her identity as a Huntress would be forgotten, instead replaced by the killing machine she would become. The Red-eyed Maiden, also known as “Remmy” among the group. She learned that people, especially criminals, were manipulative and cruel. She learned that in order to survive, she would have to become manipulative and cruel.
Accepting a mission to infiltrate Legion’s main governmental facility, Ceyla was put through even more torture and stress to ensure she could not break if captured and interrogated. Fearing that Faunus discrimination would make the task even harder, an experimental surgery was performed on her - the removal of her red panda tail. The experience was relatively quick, with Ceyla closing her eyes and opening them to find the procedure completed with no complications. It was a sigh of relief, for her and everyone else. After a few weeks of recovery, she packed her things and, accompanied by a small sect of Fang soldiers, made her way to the Kingdom of Legion.
As the Red-eyed Maiden, Ceyla committed a number of crimes in the name of the White Fang. She eventually secured a position within Legion’s government, working beneath the Kingdom’s second in command - Elijah Frye. What Ceyla - or Coquel, as they knew her - did not expect, however, was to fall in love with Frye. The two became very close, almost inseparable when outside the workplace. Talks of traveling back to the Cela Monastery to see Renault and, if possible, marry soon became the only thing she - or he - were focused on. For once, Ceyla believed she was going to have a normal life.
That is, of course, until orders from Menagerie came. The time had come to launch their assassination on the Chairman, an attack that she alone was chosen to carry out. The night of, Ceyla was ambushed Barnett, who went on to offer her an alternative: help him scapegoat the Kingdom of Rift, and in return all her crimes would be pardoned. Coquel Nattier would die, and she could live on as the person she truly was - Ceyla of Pinnacle. This, of course, did not come without its threats. Had she refused, Elijah’s life was sure to be in danger. The outcome was obvious, and she accepted the Chairman’s offer.
On the day of the Siege of Rift, Ceyla was one of the leading units, serving alongside Hunters of considerable renown. Unfortunately, in the aftermath of the attack, she had been informed that Elijah was killed in action - the result of a Vytal student’s Semblance. While brokenhearted, Ceyla found it impossible to blame anyone for Eli’s death, other than herself. She returned to Legion, where she put in motion the steps to change. She had held her end of the Chairman’s bargain, and as a result lost the only person she ever loved. No more would Ceyla - or Coquel - plague the Kingdom. No more would she let the White Fang tear apart the place she called home.
The Red-eyed Maiden was dead.
A hero in the making was all that remained.

★ COMBAT NOTES
WEAPONS
A lover of swords and history, Ceyla ended up favoring the former as her weapon of choice. She did not create her sword herself, rather it was gifted to her from her master at the Cela Monastery, who had owned it for several years. An heirloom, the sword had been handed down through the many generations of the man’s family before finding itself in his hands. While the man had every intention of handing it down to his own children, an inevitable vow of chastity that came with the responsibilities as a Cela Monk prevented that from becoming a reality. Instead, over her many years under his tutelage, Ceyla became the closest thing to family that the man had, thus becoming the heir to the weapon known as Daedalus.
The sword is rather long, being four inches taller than Ceyla stands when balanced on the end. One would think that such a weapon would be impossible for her to wield, however, the materials used to craft the sword and the distribution of weight make it relatively easy for the young woman to use. Within the deep crimson blade are several rare alloys that are both durable and light, as well as a mix of several various Dust types that would generally require the blade be frequently rebuilt. This is not needed, however, as the process that bound the Dust to the metals simply serves as a conduit for the Dust Pommels (she carries two of each in her satchel) that can be equipped to the sword. It is these pommels that truly power the elemental capabilities of the sword.
The hilt of the sword, as a result of Ceyla’s love for a little bit of flair, has been decorated with gold and red - appearing somewhat reminiscent in color and pattern to of the Kingdom of Rift’s regalia. Given its size, one would think that Ceyla does not possess a scabbard for Daedalus, being she’d be much too short to draw the weapon. That said, Daedalus does, in fact, possess a scabbard and is drawn with relative ease. This is because the sword displays the ability to telescopically extend to its full length (58 inches), which is about twice the length of the scabbard itself. In all, Daedalus is an awe-inspiring weapon from centuries in the past, sharp enough to cleave through non-military allows with ease and powerful enough to harness Nature’s Wrath with devastating effects.
Dust-based Attacks
MISC.
Ceyla doesn't wear much for armor, instead relying solely on her clothes as her last line of defense. This is a result of her confidence in her abilities, as well as the difficulty most attacks have penetrating her Semblance. She does, occasionally, wear extremely light leather armor for some missions - especially ones where she believes using Gallows may not be necessary. She also carries a fairly common 9mm pistol that she appears to be effective in using. She carries, at most, three magazines with a total of twelve rounds each.
Ceyla’s Aura is one that has been refined over many years, shifting in form as she was broken down and pieced together again while training at the renowned Cela Monastery. It was here she was raised by a well-known monk, trained in their ways from a very young age into a well-refined warrior destined for something great. Her Aura flares like a raging inferno, whipping violently with intense hues of violet. The feeling it gives off can only be described as immense anxiety. Because of this, Ceyla has a tendency to use her Aura as a means of driving down enemy morale and/or intimidating them.
As a result of her extreme training at the Monastery, Ceyla displays the ability to use basic Aura techniques at the cost of very little Aura. She has shown partiality towards using Offensive Enhancement and Illumination in battle.
GALLOWS, THE VOID KING
The Semblance that Ceyla possesses is ver different when compared to the inherited one that most of her family uses. A bastard child from a previous marriage, it is believed that her Semblance may be connected to her real father. Discovered at a young age, she has come to refer to it as Gallows, the Void King. Taking the form of an invisible dome, Gallows allows Ceyla the ability to manipulate sound waves within a certain distance from her body when activated. Because of its mostly invisible nature, it is nigh impossible to detect when Ceyla’s Voids are activated, making her an incredibly dangerous adversary.
First void: The first of her five layers, First Void allows Ceyla to alter sound waves within a thirty-foot radius of her current position. This can be used for a number of different applications, including silencing everything within her field, to throwing her voice or even mimicking the voices of others to a degree. Being the least cost-heavy on her Aura, First Void is generally the most common form of her Semblance used because it is much more versatile.
Second Void: Reaching out to a radius of twenty feet, Ceyla’s Second Void is similar to the first, albeit on a much grander scale. In addition to altering sound waves, Second Void allows Ceyla to manifest pinpointed sonic blasts as a means of self-defense (and on occasion, offense). These blasts range in power, being as weak as a gentle smack on the shoulder to discombobulate enemies, to being as strong as being struck by a speeding train. Preferring to diffuse a fight or to bring it to close range, Second Void is the least used of the four.
Third Void: The Third Void, extending a radius of ten feet, is one of the most often used by Ceyla in combat. Within its range, she is capable of shifting sound waves to induce auditory hallucinations on her target. These can range from hearing quiet whispers to driving deep into an opponent's psyche by means of exploding head syndrome. At the right levels, Third Void can also cause those within its field to experience extreme vertigo, sometimes leading to visual hallucinations as well.
Fourth Void: The most powerful layer of Gallows, the fourth void grants Ceyla the ability to alter sounds to the fullest extent. Ceyla can freely shift sound waves within a five-foot radius of her position. By manipulating sound waves properly, Ceyla can crush most materials weaker than high-grade military metals. Being the most powerful application of Gallows, Fourth Void is often only used when times call for it, choosing less demanding applications over it.
Regardless of the Void, Ceyla can use sonic waves to propel her forward at high speeds. Thanks to her near mastery over Gallows, Ceyla is also capable of tuning into frequencies and other vibrations in the air, which she can use to perceive the direction of what would otherwise be surprise attacks.
The major drawback to Gallows of the Four Voids is that, when used too much or at too strong a level, it will result in gradual or immediate deafness. Overuse can, and often does, result in a powerful feeling of nausea and sometimes slight visual disturbances, which can be detrimental in combat.
The Devil in the Details:
Gallows - First Void: 20 points
Gallows - Second Void: (5*X) points, (10*X) damage. “X” is additional Aura applied to enhance power.
Gallows - Third Void: 50 points
Gallows - Fourth Void: 400 points, (250*X) damage. “X” begins at “1” and scales up to “5” with each foot the target is within range.
Gallows - Sonic Jump: 5 points
Gallows - Sense: 10 points
Aura - Offensive Enhancement: 5 points
Aura - Defensive Enhancement: 5 points
Aura - Illumination: 5 points

Dust-based Attacks
- Fire: Arguably the most common Dust attack that Ceyla utilizes, use of Fire Dust allows Daedalus to either (a) superheat to cut through up to mid-grade military metals or (b) throw waves of intense flames at her enemies. It is most often used to produce the former effect.
- Earth: When driven deep into the earth and utilizing like Dust type, Daedalus is able to channel tremors strong enough to shake the foundation of small buildings. This is most often used to cause loss of balance in her enemies, but the force caused by the tremors can sometimes be used to produce powerful waves for her Semblance without creating the wave herself, thus saving Aura.
- Ice: Probably the least used of Daedalus’ Dust attacks, Ice Dust is used to throw razor-sharp shards of ice at her enemies. When used in combination with Wind Dust, she can create a small localized (within a ten-foot radius) hail storm to cut away at the opposition. This is her main area of effect ability, though she favors one-on-one conflict.
- Wind: As noted in the previous section, Wind Dust can be used with Ice Dust to create a small storm. In addition, it is also able to completely remove air resistance from Daedalus, allowing Ceyla to slash at her enemies with devastating speed and precision. When used with other types of Dust, Ceyla can create localized (within a ten-foot radius) shifts in the atmosphere.
- Energy: The second most used Dust type that Daedalus possesses, Energy Dust allows Ceyla to throw powerful “beams” of energy from the blade of the sword. At the cost of more Aura, she can stack the number of blades present for a total of six, allowing her to deal heavy amounts of damage in little time.
- Gravity: Only usable once before the pommel crystal breaks, Gravity Dust allows Ceyla to hurl a massive wave of gravity-based energy from Daedalus. The wave is so dense that no light can escape and everything around it appears to "bend" around the inevitable force. A sound can be heard as the wave comes upon its target, often described as a "pulsating hum so deep it rattles the skull."
- Void: Though she has not bothered to procure the pommels needed to utilize the Void Dust that was supposedly used to create Daedalus, Ceyla finds it difficult to believe that her mentor would lie about its presence. It is said that Void Dust was used, at least by the sword's first wielder, to draw the creatures of Grimm into traps and allow them to be dispatched easily.
