PLAYED BY RYEES SEVENTEEN (17) DECEMBER (12) | FEMALE FIRST YEAR STUDENT HUMAN | |
Melanine Fontine |
★ APPEARANCE
Mel is the smallest of her siblings, but easily the most physically adept. She stands just a fraction of an inch over 5'0", but her body is strong-looking and built like a soldier's. She has shoulder-length brown hair that she typically keeps tied out of the way and the same shining green eyes that her family is notorious for. Small of bust and hips, her face is soft and innocent-looking, somewhat contrasted by the flat, deadpan look that usually settles in her eyes. She is most often seen in modest dress of pants and shirts, even typically wearing leggings or tights underneath the skirt of her school uniform. Even though she is the farthest thing from "girly," she does maintain her appearance as well as any respectable woman.
★ PERSONALITY
★ HISTORY
Perhaps the least affected by her mother's absence in her life, Melanine spent her childhood buried in books and sparring mats. She was diagnosed autistic very young, but the symptoms tempered themselves very quickly and autism was very quickly reclassified as autistic savantism. Her aptitude with body mechanics and weaponry exhibited very early: in response to bullying at school, she repeated a sequence of moves that she had seen on a television program with perfect execution on a boy who was at least twice her size. It was known from that day forward that she would follow in her family's footsteps and become yet another Fontine Huntress.
Childhood flew by in a rush of training, studying, and traveling to dojos and training studios around the world, quickly surpassing her older siblings in her combat talents and eventually climbing past even the most experienced military leaders in her locality. Any around her that did not have an Aura advantage found her untouchable, and it was quickly predicted that proper Aura training would produce a frighteningly effect operative in some years' time. Her father arranged for her to take part in a training program that sent her around the world, where she learned the arts of all the cultures and military bodies around Remnant, from Legion to Pinnacle to Setek and beyond. If there was a combat technique for her to learn, she hunted it down and learned it.
In her travels, she was also exposed to the weapons of the world. Her practice naturally extended to marksman training, and she found that her aptitudes were applicable there as well; even the most complex of Huntsman weapons required only a brief explanation before she was proficient with them.
The last thing in life Melanine did not have is a cause. Altimeda had devoted himself to knowledge, its seeking, and its distribution; Aeenmae found a place as a spy and a soldier in Legion; Melanine was still young, but even acknowledgement of that did not make her feel any less listless as she began the final leg of her family's training. A proper academy, and a proper cirriculum, she hoped, would give her the insight she needed to make the rest of her previously bleak life into something more vibrant.

★ COMBAT NOTES
WEAPONS
Melanine, for a long time, did not have a weapon to call her own. Her training was centered around the use of military weaponry and hand-to-hand combat, so building her own, personal piece of equipment did not occur to her until she reached the part of her family's training that put her into an actual, factual academy.
She wanted weapon that was simple enough to function as a normal weapon would, but still contained the punch and versatility of a Huntresses weapon, without too many strange moving parts or complications that could fail in the field. The initial design of Cannonade was pitched to her by her older brother, Altimeda, and she refined it from there into something that, admittedly she was passionately fond of.
Cannonade has two pieces; the first is a glaive, that, for all intents and purposes, looks fairly normal. A wide cutting blade with a wicked drag hook on the back side connects to a slender haft, tracing down to a spiked pommel. Gunmetal-colored steel with a matte finish, it does not look in any way special save for its feel of durability and power that does not come from your everyday gear.
The second part of the weapon is a handgun with a strangely extended frame, considering it has a normal magazine slot in the grip for its ammunition. That extension is so that it can fit a twenty-milimeter anti-tank magazine and fire those rounds when the weapon's transformation happens. The pommel of the glaive flips down, and the blade follows suit, revealing that the haft has a rifled interior and a receiver for the handgun. When combined, the pair create a long range twenty-milimeter tank buster capable of accepting kinetic and Dust rounds alike.
MISC.
Melanine, like her sister, is never unarmed. A sturdy combat knife and Cannonade's handgun are always present on her person. Aside from a basic EDC kit and the locket she was given by her father containing a picture of himself and Melanine's siblings, she is typically only seen with her school supplies while not active in combat.
When she is, Cannonade comes along, as well as a stock of kinetic ammunition and two rounds of all legal Dust types.
A dull grey with an edge of purple floats around her with a very mechanical, organized feel that matches her personality. Melanine has been familiarized with all forms for Aura training, but only recently gotten the hang of Defense Enhancement.
The Hanging Garden
Melanine's Hanging Garden is the manifestation of her soul knowing that her life is not as it should be, contrary to her mind's knowledge. When activated, Melanine is swept up and away from where she is, into a cloud. The cloud appears as a pale, translucent mist from anywhere not inside its boundary, nearly invisible from up close and all but undetectable from a distance.
Taking others with her is a rare occurrence, as Melanine typically uses the space as her sanctum, her comfort zone; while she can take as many with her as can fit, the platform is only so big. Four can fit comfortably within the platform, with just enough room for one more team if the occupants mind their footing.
Within, the cloud appears to be a garden made of mist, light easily refracting through the suspended vapors and splashing a glaze of rainbow colors throughout it. While inside, Melanine moving causes the cloud to move; though it appears from without to drift, from within it feels like you're walking through a perpetual landscape. The floor behind her dissipates and new floor appears in front, growing crystalline, misty plants in a dazzling display of colors right before her eyes. Iridescent droplets drift into place to form bushes, flowers, hedges, and all manner of pellucid greenery as the space is traversed. It is a peaceful place, and the place she goes when the pressure of her life grows too great.
The scenery of the garden has a memory; the landscape is not randomly generated each time she goes there, and unless she wills something to revert to its natural state, any alterations made to the landscape will persist indefinitely. As such, one particular tree in a leafy clearing has a large letter F carved into it. Above the F is a letter A; to is bottom left, another A; and to the bottom right, an M. Melanine brought her brother and sister there soon after discovering her Semblance, and invited them to leave a piece of themselves inside so that she could have something of them with her while she was within.
While in the cloud, anyone with Aura has their bodily healing and Aura regeneration increased.
